How the hell can I get this camera to shot IR? Is there some filter blocking it or what, because i cant find anything in settings to enable this function?
Someone with experience please help
The infrared XT1? You uh...turn it on.
The regular XT1? Fujis are a little more IR sensitive than most cameras and can do it decently, but you obviously need a filter to block your visible light.
If your dilemma is the former, I dunno how to help you, read the manual. If its the latter, you can't shoot infrared without an IR filter. Get yourself a cheap 720nm or something on ebay if you wanna experiment.
>>2734489
You need a filter to put on the lens to cut out everything that isn't IR.
Because it removes a lot of light, the photos will require more time to take.
Digital cameras usually feature physical IR blocking filters that are essentially part of the sensor itself - they can't be disabled by a software setting. With some cameras you can physically remove this filter (or more likely pay somebody to do it for you), but with others it's impossible without destroying the sensor. Removing the filter is pretty much permanent and the camera will then only be useful for shooting IR.
The less extreme/permanent option is to buy a filter for your lens that blocks everything but IR light and then use extremely long exposures, until eventually enough light gets through the sensor's IR filter to produce an exposure. This is obviously only any good for scenes that don't move.
Anyone use an LCD loupe for stills? Thinking about getting one for my E-M5 for portraits since I'm not a huge fan of it's EVF and I use a manual focus lens for my portraits. I'm interested in others' experiences using them for still photography.

Top fucking kek, anon.
just use a dslr???
Has anyone else found that when they start out in photography, social media traffic and paid work is pretty easy to come by, and then it suddenly all dries up?
It seems that as I've invested in better kit and lights my popularity has gone down.
And the weirdest part is that people who have seen my portfolio comment on how professional it looks, and whether I do photography full time, when my earnings are laughable.
Has anybody else found this? A shout out to all struggling togs out there. I'll upload a couple of sets for CC if you guys are interested too.

What's your favourite focal length /p/?
I can't choose between 35mm or 50mm so I just use my 24-70mm f/2.8. I don't really shoot wide too often nor think 70mm is much longer than 50mm.
If there was a 35-50mm f/1.8 lens, I would be set for life.

For street - 35mm
For portraits - 85mm/greater than 150mm

Started with a Sony SLT a65, a Samyang 85mm f1.4 and a beercan (minolta 70-210 f4). Wanted to go full frame so i upgraded to a D750, sold all my lenses and bought a 24-70 tamron f2.8. IQ was solid but i missed my sony too much, I wanted to go back to an EVF so bad. Finally i traded my Nikon for an A7 II, kept that sweet tamron and bought an old nikon 180mm f2.8 and i've never been happier
>>2727334
Nice, went with this d7000 because I think Nikon's got better lenses for my price range. Was gonna' get an AIS 135, but with the crop sensor it was just a bit too tele for me. So- I just went with this 60 instead.

>1. Using an ISO over 200.
literally never seen anyone complain unless it's in the upper thousands and seriously impacts a picture which would have benefited from sharpness
>2. Having images that aren't 100% sharp.
same as the above really, only comes up when it impacts an image negatively such as when your subject blends with the background rather than jump out of it
>3. Not using a lens hood.
who the fuck uses a lens hood whenever the camera's out of the bag and who the fuck doesn't put it back on when it's in the bag
>4. Not using a camera strap.
>implying camera straps aren't nerd-tier, wrist straps where it's at

>6. Changing lens in an unsatisfactory manner.
what in the christ is this I never even heard of this
>7. Using phones to take photos.
I hope nobody's actually bothered by this
>8. Thinking that white balance can be used for artistic effect.
it can be but it looks like ass 99% of the time
if you want to play with white balance the best way to go is shooting RAW and experimenting in photoshop
>>9. Having blown highlights.
not having blown highlights is objectively superior to having blown highlights
>10. Considering buying a mirror-less camera.
but mirrorless cameras are getting more and more respect all the time?????????

Hey /p/ros,
Dumb question of the day, is there a way to measure the relative difference of light in an image in fstops?
Take this photo, is there a way to tell how many stops darker the shadows are compared to the climber?
I know the White Balance selector is Lr gives RGB%'s but that isn't much use. I am looking for a more mechanical system.
The histogram can tell you about the differences in lights and shadows, is this what you're looking for?
>>2734363
shadows look solarized lmao. what a shitty pic.
>>2734366
Not so much, more to compare specific points on the image. So for example how many stops brighter is the ice by the climbers left hand compared to the bottom right hand corner.
