Anyone else feeling sad over the loss of film not only as a photographer but also as someone who looks at photographs?

I feel it made the world look more sterile. Photographs in magazines, on the internet, movies... almost all digital nowadays. Artists may be able to make digital look really good with editing but most people don't bother. With film they still made pleasing images that I might enjoy looking at. Film photographs have a painting like quality to me. They make an emotional impression on me because of the light and shadows and colors and tones. Digital only makes an impression on me because of the content in an image. Film shows while digital describes. These are my feelings.

Anyone can relate?

The thing that gets me with film is that you're closer to your images.

Try enlarging, correcting and printing a roll of 36 exposures. It takes for ever and requires a lot of skill and effort. But the prints are ones you immediately hold and can hang up, the satisfaction is incredible.

With digital you make some awesome photos, throw them into some folder on your PC, and never look at them again. Or worse yet, just throw them up on social media to get a handful of likes and that's that.

The problem with film is your typical pleb that sees a printed picture doesn't appreciate it at all. None of the time and effort to create it is seen, it's just down to what's shown on the image.

I'd like to buy this zeiss lens for my BMPCC (because it's zeiss and its cheap af) but it looks delaminated. Will this affect the picture? And if so how? Thanks

fuck off, post in the gear thread.
>>
The "pro tessar" is not a complete
lens. It is designed to work with the zeiss contaflex camera.

The camera body contains the shutter and rear lens elements. The lens you have posted is one of a series of different front elements designed to give a variety of focal lengths.

It will not work on your
camera unless you find a way to take the rear lenses out of a contaflex and mount them.

Guys,
I need your help.
I could get this fuji x20 for quite cheap.
the thing is , the trigger has gone missing.
this looks super fixable , but I want another opinion.
I looked at wire triggers and they seem to insert relativley far into the hole and physicaly push down in order to trigger the camera.
I could 3d print something that would work similar.

are any x20 owners here that could give me their opinion ?

Look up "soft release", it's a small button that just screws in.
>>
>>2730361
...no, an overtightened one is most likely what caused this damage in the first place. The shutter button is broken off, though the camera can still be triggered if you poke something thin in the hole and tap the microswitch that the shutter button is supposed to reach.

I haven't figured out an easy fix for this yet, my X10 suffered the same fate. It's easy to get the camera to fire still, but a permanent rigging that I dont have to hold in place? No clue.

hey guys Im having an issue between keeping my wx350 (picture) or buying a rx100 I or an a5000.
the wx350 suffers alot by the small image sensor in low light. this was the best image I took at the max ISO 3000 or so and it doesn't have manual anything. although I think in light settings it works haven't tried out doors yet. is it better to take the rx100 with its portability as an everyday Carey, the A5000 with its huge sensor but lack of mobility (and it comes with a poor lens in comparison towards the rx as someone told me) or keep the wx

I'm not sure if this is the right place to go, but I need a little help.

I photographed my grandmother's dog, long story short the photo is under exposed and she wants it framed.

Can you guys help me out by fixing the photo up? I would but my monitor is dying out and the colors aren't so good.

Yeah OP I can do this, it's easily fixable. How do you want it done? Just bump up the exposure or anything else?
>>
>>2730090
Simply fix it in every way. Things like exposure and noise reduction.

the manual.
>>
Manual is a good start. Ken Rockwell's website should be treated as God's word for about a month or two (that's with heavy reading), but after that, browse /p/ and you'll learn what to disregard on his website, because deep down he's a little fuck. Enjoy your camera!
>>
>>2729983
Assuming this is sarcasm. If not - please don't follow this.
First you want to start with the basics of lighting, aperture, shutter speed, etc. This is mostly all googleable but there's bunches of decent books on amazon (just search photography) if you want.

Once you get past the basics, you're basically going to want to focus more on the art side of things. For the love of God, avoid large amounts of /p/ browsing, it'll leave you with a completely warped and likely gear-fagged/nitpicking outlook. There isn't a single source to learn this, nor can it be really "taught". Do things like look at books of Renaissance paintings to get an idea of composition and light or google around/go to the library for books of famous photographs and see which ones you like and try figure out why you like them. Don't worry about creating your own unique style, just do what looks good to you.

How the hell did you decide on your first camera? The more research I do the more options become available and it gets harder to choose, I've found a good deal on the ar5100 and I think I'll pull the trigger, if my main sues are sport, landscape and city shots is this a good purchase?

Hey /p/
Managed to witness and capture the Aurora Borealis on Christmas morning. I'm a very amateur photographer and did my best to capture the lights but they were very faint and the light pollution was pretty crippling (I was in the middle of Reykjavik). How can I enhance the photos I did capture?

TL;DR How do I improve these pictures of the Northern Lights?
Retaking the pictures on another date isn't an option.
Cheers!

Get out from the fucking city
Get a much faster lens
Get a camera that can crank the ISO more
Shoot RAWdawg so you can fix it in post

I've never seen the AB myself so idk how fast it "moves" around. If it doesnt move very fast take longer exposures

This stuff should be obvious to you anon, are you just starting photography?

Hey /p/, I got a question.

What kind of cameras do professionals use to shoot photos? DSLR, point-and-shoot, or mirrorless?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
All three.

DSLR's are most common.
>>
All three. DSLRs are more common because they're easier to build a system around.

I.E. you're doing a wedding and you want a bunch of remote flashes, to do it well you pretty much gotta go for a DSLR.

Many pros lately are switching to
>Do I need to handle heavy lenses? Am I going to be comfortable?
DSLR

>Heavy equipment isn't necessary? I'm on a tight schedule with a lot of space to travel?
Mirrorless

P&S are tricky. Many pros like them for some peculiar work, but they're niche cameras for niche works, when it comes to pro stuff. You could, say, do a quick fashion shoot in a very claustrophobic setting with an RX100 fitting where no DSLR ever could. Stuff like that.
