so my sister got one of these for christmas and it's actually pretty fun.

so I'm gonna get a polaroid. any suggestions or should I just go instax mini.? I'd prefer square format but not if it's gonna be way harder to find film.

Unless you want to pay many times more for frame...

There's a instant wide too.
>>
I like the instax wide. some years ago I got my gf some Polaroid 600. 4 exposures since then as the Impossible films suck. You're certainly better off with some instax if you don't care about the 'real polaroid look'.

I am leaving for a trip tomorrow and will bring my trusty A7.
But I can't decide if I want to bring my Loxia 2/50 or borrow a Nokton 50/1.1.
I really can't decide. I like the close focus of the Lox, but the Noct is so nice and bright... I am sorry if this shouldn't be outside the gear thread, I need opinions desperately.

It sounds like you have used the loxia a lot.
unfamilliar gear can help you push yourself in other directions.
also, what trip is this. if you are in a warm country, take the loxia. if its a cold country with lots of dark bars and people and indoor locations youll obvi be better off with a brighter lens.
>>
>>2731317
Reasonable enough. It will be a trip to Hungary so I expect quite a lot of darkess.
Nokton 50 and a backup Sony/Zeiss 35/2.8 seems pretty reasonable then.
>>
>>2731317
>unfamilliar gear can help you push yourself in other directions.
It's still a 50mm lens... it just gives more BOKEH. This is not a direction you should be trying to go in....
A tripod would be more beneficial.

I got an Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT from my parents this christmas. It's their old, but perfectly functioning camera whose been in many battles. It works great.

I'm starting to read the manual but I want to jump right in...

- how do I get gud?
- is manual the best way to make unique-good looking shots?
- when is autofocus approriate?
- is everything Photoshopped to make things look good these days?

Thanks /p/

>- how do I get gud?
Practice, and shoot mindfully. Learn to open your eyes, and seek out interesting scenes, and THEN bring out your camera, rather than saying "I want to take a photo" and trying to force some boring shot of a center piece on your mom's diningroom table.
Ask yourself "is this a photo that anyone is going to want to look at?" and be honest with yourself about the answer.
>- is manual the best way to make unique-good looking shots?
No. Manual is a tool, and has it's uses. None of the modes are objectively better than the others. Manual is useful in strange lighting situations, or when you're using strobes. In general, you should spend most of your time in P, Av or Tv.
>- when is autofocus approriate?
At all times where your AF system is able to lock reliably. You get no bonus points for manually focusing, and the risk of missing the shot is much higher.
>- is everything Photoshopped to make things look good these days?
Yes. As it should be. Capturing the photo in-camera is only half of the job. A complete photo has been corrected and polished up for presentation.
>>
>>2731984
- how do I get gud?
learning the technicalities from someone or online and going out and shooting the shit out of everything but with thought and consideration and not just snapshitting like you would with an iPhone

- is manual the best way to make unique-good looking shots?
no, manual is useful for those situations where the camera isn't automatically doing what you want it to do, it's not an artistic tool
understanding when manual is appropriate came to me after lots of shooting, initially I did it for the artsies and then I realized all my shots are grainy as fuck and underexposed
usually the camera will know better than you, and manual is for those few times when it doesn't

- when is autofocus approriate?
literally always

- is everything Photoshopped to make things look good these days?
yes and you should embrace it, every photo can be enhanced if you know what you're doing, even so subtly that most won't be able to tell
>>
Enjoy you cam, I had the 350D for a long time and I was completely satisfied (until I updated when I knew what I wanted).

>- how do I get gud?
practice, read, rinse & repeat. The sticky is a good place to start, also I'd recommend reading Understand Exposure by Bryan Peterson to get down the basics of Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO.
>- is manual the best way to make unique-good looking shots?
it depends.
>- when is autofocus approriate?
always, unless you're in a situation where your autofocus system fails
>- is everything Photoshopped to make things look good these days?
most things are yes

Do you need the AF-D screw?
Do you need the tilt screen?
Do you need the top info panel?
Do you need the more rugged construction?

How can you be indecisive? It's just yes or no questions.

> 50 1.4G
Not really worth it over the 50 1.8G, extra money better spent elsewhere.

>Nikon D7200 50 1.8G
Unless you know for certain you enjoy shooting only at a 75mm FoV, this is likely just going to be too restrictive for general photography to the point of being annoying.

so i had some provia in the fridge for like 5 months. it's in the canister in the packaging in a plastic bag, to like avoid ruining the film.

so I think i'm gonna start shooting it today. do i just leave the bag as it is and let it reach room temp? or should i open the package and have the canister out?

sorry i'm kind of retarded

Kind of retarded is an understatement. Just pull it out of the fridge and fucking use it. Wait maybe 5 minutes if you can't handle it.
>>
Wait 6 hours in room temperature. Then open it.
>>
Leave it as it is until it warms up a bit. Also, you can shoot it straight away if it was not frozen.

Ok /p/ I need a new monitor.

Right now I'm using a total piece of shit Acer with like 50% colors a 960x720p resolution. It looks like shit. I hate it.

Can anyone recommend a monitor that will be great for editing photos for under $400 (ish)? I do zero gaming so refresh rate doesn't matter.

Whatever the flavour of the month 27", ips, 2560x1440, korean monitor off ebay is and a spyder.

And use dvi or dp, not hdmi.

Theres very few actual panels made, the cheap korean stuff is identical where it counts. And personally i prefer not having a glutton of image calibration shit built into the monitor when a spyder will always give great results for colour.

Where can I learn proper RAW processing? I really suck at it and all of my photos turn out either bland or over processed.

hey guys, I wanted to get my GF a polaroid 600 camera for her birthday in 4 days. I can't order any online because the expected delivery date is in January.

Can anybody tell me a place where will sell these with film???? is there anywhere online with next day delivery? cheers.

Unless you want to spend an arm and a leg at THEIMPOSSIBLEPROJECT.com But they are factory restored.
I grabbed all my 600 Cameras via thrift stores/pawn shop.
TIP Color film is not truly instant.
Their bW2.0 is amazing though.
I like my spectra system more as it has more options.
TIP Film is expensive and I recomend if you like to waste film,, go with an InStax Wide 300/210, or maytbe the Lomo Instant Wide.
TIP Film 23/25$ish dollars for 8 shots.
Discounts if you buy triple packs. They upgraded the color but but doesn't compare to Instax unless you like the artsy feel.
I get my instax wide film, 20 shots for 15.99 at B&H and some times Mel Priece camera.

just get her an instax or your "gift" will burn a hole into her wallet larger than the camera itself in 2 months time

>tl;dr I am looking to get into filming and editing music videos.
>looking for basically the cheapest respectable full hd camera
what do I mean by that?

basically the lowest on the bar to shoot a high quality music video without the type of budget high end artists / producers my have.

Between my group of friends I have a passionate and locally successful rap artist, a friend who is passionate and skilled about music producing (which I am too), a friend who is passionate (but does not have the money for) directing (he has a lot of story boarded movies for the sake of practice). We already have a skilled producer and I've lost my passion for being an artist but I would like to start filming for my buddy.

your help is greatly appreciated as I am in the very beginning stages of learning film equipment.
