This is a terrible idea. Pawn shops have NO idea about camera equipment, especially when you start asking specifics like "what's the shutter count?". Today I was at Pawn America in Green Bay, they had a Nikon D7000 with an 18-55 VR kit lens, the whole thing was priced at $329 plus tax. I was super tempted to buy it, and I almost did, until I popped the lens off and locked the mirror open and saw a HUGE stain on the sensor, like someone had dropped coffee or some dark brown liquid directly onto the sensor. I didn't take a picture, though I should have, but it looked something like the attached image.
I told the girl who was helping me in plain English "This camera is junk, I'm not interested". Her response was typical: "We test all of the cameras before we buy them, if it's for sale, it works".
How do you deal with buying cameras and equipment secondhand? Do you take a chance on something, or do you spend a bit more and just buy directly from a reputable dealer? I've had mixed results in the past - I took a gamble on a Nikon D40 with an 18-55 VR kit lens for $110, got it home and the shutter count was 46,600 (about 92% of its expected shutter life). I also purchased a 105mm NIKKOR AI-S lens for $15 from the same pawn shop and it's one of my favorite lenses for macro and closeup work.
Do you have any pawn shop horror stories or fantastic finds? I'd love to hear them ^_^
Just buy from KEH, retard.

Test how?
Help me /p/, I just bullshit my way into a job as a professional photographer and I know absolutely jack shit about taking pictures beyond tossing a camera in auto mode. I start in two weeks and I need to know how to set up a collapsible 'studio' for doing portraits, and how to take decent wedding photos. I'm going to be a Nikon D4S and a bunch of random lenses that were in a case, I think there were about 15 of them, he said they were mostly prime but had a few zoom. FUCK This job pays really well and I didn't think I was going to get it
How can I learn to be a pro in like a week?
Haha nah, fuck you. Have fun!
>>2878074
what lighting equipment do you have?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s0JQfoMZbTM
So /p/, what's your dream cam?
mine would be something like this:
Interchangeable back (all are backside illuminated) full frame mirrorless camera with movable flange distance as well as 5 axis sensor based IS, which can be coupled with optical IS (as well as other sensor movements).
EF mount, but movable flange distance allows thousands of lenses to be used.
4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 20, 24, and ultra high detail 50mp backs available.
electronic and mechanical shutter from 1+ hour to 1/8000 second exposure. manufacturer provides lens adapters for everything from fd to 645.
no mirror, so leaf shutter lenses can be used.
special line of leaf shutter lenses made, first releases being standard prime 50mm T1.4 and T1.8 (also comes cheaper with non leaf shutter versions, same optics though). comes with great manual.
no idea how much something like that would be priced, probably a fuckton
sorry for sloppy writing
Oh wow this thread again. Didn't we have fun with the one last week.
Dream cam is the one you have with you *tips fedora*

To start off, I'm trying to scan some negatives and they're extremely dark. Left side of pic related is my attempt, right side is the scan I got back from my developers. I'm using a CanoScan 8800f as its something I happened upon, but if need be I might purchase an Epson v600.
>>2874542
your developers dont even take care of their scanner? I hope you didnt pay for those
>>2874542
anon you do realise you can actually manipulate the scan that comes out of your scanner in any manner possible including making it brighter, right?
>>2874593
Sure, but it doesn't seem to bring out the colors properly, more so just wash things out. I don't know if its an error in my post processing or what. If someone wants, I can put the original .tiff on mega and link it.
Why don't we have a concert thread up?
Where are all the usuals?
Ill post some recents. I shot Joyce Manor and Modern baseball last week

For that price range, the a6300 is the best digicam for video.
And the next step up would be a sony a7s.

he told /p/ was lame!! man, he quoted me twice! I'M DOING MY POSSIBLE
this is stupid
"if you were a nikon, you would be a nikon D40"
who the hell was that!? I'm certain that fag is from here!
Hi Guys,
Total amateur here, who's been practicing for a few months.
I bought this Kiron 80-200mm f4.5 macro lens for 20 bucks. I'm shooting on mirrorless with adapters.
I'm too newb enough to not understand the markings on the lens. For example if I wanted to zone focus out to 10ft, how would I do that?
I'm primarily wanting to zone focus for faster street photography.
Thanks
a lens like that isn't very suitable for street photography though...
if you want to be faster in shooting street, I recommend getting something wide-ish like a 35 then shoot at f8 or f11, set the focus to 1m then most things would be in focus
That's cause your lens doesn't have the markings for zone focusing.
In my pic, the orange line denotes where the focus is according to the distance written on the focus ring. The pairs of white lines that branch out refer to apertures f/8, f/16, and f/22. That means that the range of distances between each set of lines is your depth of field for that particular focal length and aperture.
For those that aren't familiar with the design of lens, this is a push/pull zoom which has fallen out of style in favor of zoom rings. Also, the red line (also in OP's lens) refers to the focus point of infrared.
Now, just because your camera doesn't have the marking doesn't mean you can't use zone focusing. Use a DOF calculator like this
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
and find good combinations of focal length, aperture, and focus distance you can use for your style of photography and keep note of them. Practice switching between them until it becomes second nature.

Agreed. If you are adapting vintage lenses I would recommend a Canon or Nikon 35mm lens (they work well on my Sony) if you can't find those, then the Canon FD 50mm F1.8
This is shit but I can't get why, any help ?

Imagine picking up a guitar and playing note by note the tab for stairway to heaven, you could say "I played all the right notes, in the right order" and it may not even sound like music.
