What are some good Japanese books? I've bought this.
Maybe Daido stuff? I don't really know any other famous Japanese photographers.

BJDrew's product photography YouTube video is a good primer. It doesn't matter that this video is for shooting small products. The general principles are going to be the same. You need to control your light well. That's key.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kekNbGad2Lk
As far as a good focal length, that all depends on the size of your studio, how big your mannequins are, what your lighting situation is, etc. Without knowing that, we really can't give you solid advice. If you're shooting full body mannequins, you're going to need a shit ton of space and a wider lens, something less than 50 even. If you're going to be shoot a detail on a tie to show the weave of the fabric, then you may need something much tighter, like an 85 or a 105 macro or something.
What's your setup?
>>2884182
I reckon the mannequin is life size and the would probably be shot like the pic uploaded. I havent seen the setup yet, i reckon they'll give me a couple soft boxes/umbrellas, and ive been told i'll get a canon with a generic zoom lens (not constant f-stop), probably 18-105 or something similar, and a 50mm prime.
What would be the ideal focal for a medium shot, 35mm?
>>2884189
>What would be the ideal focal for a medium shot, 35mm?
Honestly, that depends on how much space you have in the studio. I'm not trying to be obtuse, but there's really no way to answer that question without knowing more.
If you don't have any space, then you may need a 35 to get it all in frame. But a lot of times something as wide as a 35 will distort things too much and look a little wonky. For product stuff, I'd get as long of a focal length as you can get away with in your space.
For studio stuff, if I'm shooting somebody's upper torso, I like to stay in the 50-85 range. But a lot of times you may not have enough room to back up to get that in.
Switching my tanks/reels maybe in August for developing and processing 35mm and 120 color and b/w film and I was wondering about the best rotary non-steel reels for doing so. I've seen the JOBO tanks but I'm not 100% sure about its effectiveness and quality. So what are some good tank/reels and whatnot that seal for inversions quicky too. Please and thank you.

So I just received my RB67 in the mail today. I cannot seem to fire the mirror however. I have removed the dark slide. The lens shutter is cocked and the mirror is in the down position, I can the depress the shutter button but can't fire. If someone could help that would be great.

1, 3, 2. Don't know why. But I don't like the 2nd one.
Redpill me on why "street photogs" shoot with film compacts or $1000+ Leicas, Contax, rangefinder film camera etc. when a smartphone can almost produce same photo quality and it is way more discreet than pointing a camera in front of a subject's face on the street? Can they also focus faster using a rangefinder than autofocus?
I understand those who shoot with a TLR because medium format film quality is high and you can shoot from hip which is discreet. It kind of looks cool as well.
A good argument is probably because black and white film looks better than digital but I don't shoot bnw film so I can't confirm this.
>>2883466
there's nothing discreet about raising your phone to about eye-level and pointing it at someone. people have no idea what you plan on doing with such picture.
with an enthusiast camera, people can connect it to photography, especially if its obviously a film cam (who the hell shoots film for nefarious purposes)
Contax rangefinders are autofocus. The G2 is quite quick and accurate as well as having an incredible lens lineup. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a smartphone that has a better lens than that 45mm/f2 planar
That being said street photogs dont just use specific cameras. You can use whatever you want as long as you're fast enough with it
Nobody is stopping you from using a phone or forcing you to use a leica it's just fun to use whatever feels good
I've got a g1 with the 28mm/f2.8 biogon and it's great but I've never shot street though

Honestly it's brand brain washing
It's why people will wear a Rolex rather than a generic watch
Any thrift store compact camera can take photos like some bourgeois rangefinder, for 1% of the price of one
Okay, so I'm fairly new to photography and I'd like to start editing my photos with some more professional software. Lightroom seems like a good option, but I'm a bit confused about the differences between 5, 6, CC, whatever. My camera is a GR II, would it only work with 6 or CC according to the website?
What do you suggest I do as a beginner with editing? Is the 9.99 a month CC the way to go, or just getting a standard version of it that I pay for all at once?
>>2883310
Just pirate it.
Also, Photosincolor on YouTube does great Lightroom tutorials, check them out.
>>2883310
the GR will work with whatever version of lightroom you want to use since it uses the universal RAW format. I use CC currently since my University pays for it but I have previously used 5 and 6 with my GR with no issues. If you think you'll do more serious editing it's worth getting Photoshop too.
Pirate them both I say!
>>2883310
Also Google NIK
How do you do your white balance /p/ ?
I'm beginner and every time I edit my RAWs on LR, I don't know how to proceed. Eventually letting LR select it automatically. Am i doing wrong ?
Also, should I buy those grey card that helps you getting a neutral white balance ?
>>2883189
I don't do shit I just let my VSCO presets do it for me.
>>2883193
I don't do VSCO. Do you have a before/after it ?
>>2883189
I have an xrite checker, while its great for bringing out subtle true colors, it honestly won't matter unless you're doing product photography
I don't worry about it much anymore and just let color profiles deal with it
