If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.

Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new.
No pointless (brand) arguments and dickwaving allowed! You have been warned!

I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!

And don't forget, be polite!

A Diana Mini for $35?
I always wanted to try a square format cam but the normal Diana that uses 120 film seems a bit pricier and 120 film cost more.

Beside the sony a7 line, what would be the best mirrorless camera? Their nex/non FF alphas?
Is it worth to get the a6000 instead of the nex-6?
>>

Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic
Why mirrorless only? I assume you are the same guy asking around for a few days now, if you are such a beginner why not save your money, get a used entry level DSLR with kit lens and abuse it for a year, then you will be able to decide what system to get into.

Hi /p/

What's the difference between these to adapters that should make my Minolta lens work on my pannys?

https://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Adapter-Minolta-Olympus-Panasonic/dp/B003EAVULQ
https://www.amazon.it/Fotodiox-Adattatore-Minolta-Obiettivo-Fotocamera/dp/B003EAVULQ

Will the lack of the stabilisation make a great difference?

Hi all - last night I was photographing a local band in a pub and I'm really not happy with how the photos turned out.

The lighting was awful and I had hardly any space to move because of the venue and amount of people sat there. Probably the most challenging event I've shot at because of this.

They also had constantly changing lights on stage, some light but mostly dark so I was thrown of with settings.

That and I only had 15 minutes to shoot! They came on 15 minutes late and I had to be gone.

Anyway enough excuses, I'd like some CC on the images, A lot of these are super funky angles, I usually go a lil dutch with live/event stuff if I'm struggling to frame, not sure if they work.

Everytime i have my friend take photos of me i appear fat as fuck even though i'm almost a skelly (178cm 58kg)

Note that he is shorter, should i place my camera above or below eye level?Should the camera be tilted down/up or something? It drives me crazy
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Things closer to the camera will appear proportionally larger than things further away. This is accentuated when using shorter focal lengths below ~85-135mm, which is why that range is typically used when making portraits.

Assuming your subject is standing straight, shooting at their head level will be flatting for most people. Shooting up will result in large feet and legs, small torso and head, this is not usually flattering for women, can be flattering for men. Shooting down will result in a large head, broad shoulders, slimmer waist and slim/small legs, this is usually flattering for both men and women.

So I'm going to invest in my first serious camera. The question I wanted to ask is if B&H in NYC is still the number one place to get optics these days?
I haven't been to their store or bought anything from them. The last time I was there was in 98' with dad when I was like 10, buying something to which I forgot.
The only thing I remeber is that it's not the place to go to if you don't know EXACTLY what you want.

If you want to buy new, it's fine. I'd compare their prices with Adorama.

But, it's fucking retarded to buy new. If you knew what you were doing you'd get it from KEH.
>>
>>2879760
Okay usually with electronics I'm leery of buying used. I'll check it out. Not making any illusions here but I didn't go to B&H not knowing what I was doing and get utterly jipped.
>>
that place is full of jews

Looking to buy my first camera for amature photography but more so for video making. I hear the Panasonic G7 is better than the a6000 for video, but besides the appeal of the a6000 being the compact size and design, am I an idiot for wanting the sony because of the brand?

Panasonic just has a bad connotation in my head. It just sounds old and cheap to me. It's the brand of CRT your grandma had. Sony, their website, their branding, their cameras and lenses, it all just looks good. I feel like no matter what, I'll be slightly dissatisfied with the Panasonic just because of that.

Is that a dumb reason to choose the a6000 over the G7? I do prefer the a6000 size more, but other than that, the G7 checks way more video boxes except the autofocus, but I don't know how substantially better the a6000's autofocus is in comparison.

Use the gear thread next time, senpai.

Yes, it is a stupid reason.

Panasonic makes great products.
I'd personally only get the G7 if you intend on being into video for a while, though.
>>

G7 is fine. Own one too. Expect to get shat on in photo threads
Prepare to invest a lot in not directly optical stuff, like tripod, mic, audio recorder

HANDCRAFTED CONSTRUCTION

With years of knowledge and experience, the skilled and dedicated team of technicians at the Zenit Factory in Russia has produced the lens to the highest quality. In addition to having a modified 0.7m closest focusing distance (an improvement from 1m on the original lens), the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens is directly compatible with L39 and M mount rangefinder and mirrorless digital cameras, as well as many more using adapter mounts. Constructed from chrome-plated solid brass, the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens is much more durable than the original Jupiter 3 lens, which was made out of aluminum, so it will last for many, many years to come.

A combined effort by our experienced team and manufactured at the exact same Zenit factory in Russia as the original, the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens retains the strong character and Soviet spirit of the original lens — crisp sharpness, smooth, natural colors and lush, dreamy bokeh — while transcending its forbearer in many ways.

In the same excellently compact design and classic demeanor, we recalculated the technical specifications of the original Jupiter 3 to make this extremely special lens far more accessible for today’s photographers. It’s compatible with L39 and M mount cameras, as well as a large range of other cameras using adapter mounts.

The New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens is being produced in small batches and thus will be available on a very limited first-come, first-served basis. Head to the Lomography Online Shop to secure your very own!

Okay, so I recently bought a black and white cartridge from The Impossible Project for my dad's polaroid 1000. I really want to use this gold plated cartridge for some portraits of a friend of mine, but im scared of fucking up my exposure and getting a bunch of shitty overexposed photographs.
Does anyone have any info or tips on lighting and how best to shoot with it?
Also polaroid general thread.

Your flash unit still works right?
Always try to go on the brighter end, it's way easier to under expose than it is to overexpose

I'm not sure if there's a flash. All I found in the attic was the camera.
I can always put her in front of a window or under a light though.

in flashless units shoot outside in daylight. the camera deals well with those conditions, but fails in low light. remember you have a fixed focus hyperfocal lens - the background of your subject will always be in focus, so choose ones that dont compete for the viewer's attention with your subject. foilage is a staple, ditto skyline (possibility of underexposing subject then, though). google a pdf version of the instruction manual and read it - among other things it lists the minimal focusing distance, important for portraiture with such a wide angle fov. before you put the cartridge in thoroughly clean the rollers the film passes through - they're crucial to properly spreading the chems over your developing photo. mind the exposure compensation dial, adjust after 1st photo fully develops, however long that takes for your impossible project film. be patient. have fun.
