/sp/ here. Season tickets for hockey and baseball. Is the Nikon COOLPIX L340 20MP a good starter camera for newfags? Is a monopod better than a tripod for video?
>>2881411
yep
take a monopod. Yea the camera is fine enough for snapshots

Looks like it's a CCD sensor, nothing particularly wrong with CCD sensors if you know what you're going for, but you could easily get unintentional CCD smears
id suggest a Sony - DSCWX220
I don't see it. It's being hailed as great but is that not solely because of the subject matter? I guess it does show what was going on, but most protest/riot photos are taken from this same angle.
Nah it's pretty bad
>weird perspective
>framed on the background a little strange i.e. trees coming out the top of his head
>literally nothing on the right side yet it's bright and distracting
>no interesting colors
>cannot even really see what they're trying to do to this chick and why
It's not great and people just want to point while the spotlight is being shown on it
>but most protest/riot photos are taken from this same angle
Try standing on a roof pointing a questionable object at a group of cops
It's pretty good. Interesting juxtaposition between the single protester and the army of cops. It also gets the viewer instantly interested in finding out the context.
>>2880561
>Interesting juxtaposition between the single protester and the army of cops
How is this possibly an example of interesting juxtaposition? They could be in like for a taco truck for all we know
I feel like whoever took this should have gone in tighter to focus on the three in the middle or gone out a little more to really see a big line of cops directly facing just her and nobody else
>It also gets the viewer instantly interested in finding out the context
I'll agree with that to a point because anyone with half a brain will put together the context is protesting against police on black violence but obviously it makes you want to know the specifics of what is happening to this person in question here which is why going in and isolating them better would have made for a far better photo instead of trying to do both at once
I think this is a clear case of 'less is more' that'll be overlooked because more is more when things get topical

I accidentally left my camera on for the past week, it's a nikon d750...will anything happen to it?
Lol no.

Sensor is probably fucked from being overworked for that long. Should send it to Nikon to be safe.
it was in my bag so I'm not sure if it's necessary, should I send it anyways?

1st: don't link your shit. if you want feedvack post your stuff here. why annoy us with clicking links when you want something from us. so invest some efford, bring them in the right format and post.
2nd: you have a strong problem with the horizontal axis. are you not able to make one perpendicular shot?
3rd: actually some of the shots are quite good. but I cannot refer to them because I won't start to say "the one b/w with the girl standing ... blabla". you sucker.

I found an old film underwater camera that I want to play around with on a trip. I bought a roll of film loaded it in. Is there any way to make sure that I set it up correctly besides just developing the film? I can click down the shutter and roll the film right now.

if you can fit one of those gel silica packets in the housing without compromising that will take care of any fogging that might happen. make sure to grease the seal if you have any silicon type of grease or gel.
leave it out of the sun and be gentle with it.
idk what else, hard to know if its working short of doing a test roll in any water you can find and getting it developed.
>>2883338
Alright thanks, I'm just kinda skeptical that this would work with just a roll of film without anything else (like a battery)
>>2883344
It's a fixed shutter speed, there are no aperture blades or meters or mirrors or really any moving parts apart from the shutter . When you wind the film you prime a spring that released when you press the shutter button.
Do I actually look like how I do in photographs?
I look better in the mirror, which is closer to how others see me?
Don't know where else to ask this. I'll delete the thread when I get an answer
>>2883280
Here are some variables that make "mirror you" look different than "photo you"
>focal length of lens isn't equivalent to eye focal length
>dynamic range is different on sensors/film than it is on our eyes
>you're used to seeing your facial features in a mirror and it looks off seeing it not mirrored
I'd imagine that looking in a mirror would be more accurate, because you're receiving the image through your eyes and nothing else. With a photo you're seeing the image the camera lens received at the moment the picture was taken, and with that there could be all kinds of distortion - subtle or obvious - based on the focal length, depth of field, shutter speed vs. movement in the picture, et cetera.
Cameras don't lie, at least not that much.
You're used to the way you look in the mirror and your mind emphasizes certain features, either consciously or not. For example, maybe you hate your nose and think it's too long or your something, so it appears longer to you in the mirror than in a photograph.
Then again, angles and lighting are everything.
Ill dump photos of cars in the Toronto area this past week.
Post car spots of your own.
This sls was nice
I seem to have a focus issue with my new Tokina 11-20. It's mounted on a Canon 1000D(XS)
The camera is on a tripod.
The lens is wide open F/2.8, at 11 mm. I manually focused on the T on the box using liveview for the "manual" shot.
Then I manually focus the lens to infinity and let the camera refocus using the center cross point, centered on the T.
I called the shop, they're willing to give me my money back, but they're out of stock. Basically I can't get a replacement any time soon (no competitors either).
So?
Get your refund and use the gear thread next time
>>2882910
Typical backfocus. Most DSLRs have AF microadjustment option for such cases, the PDAF and the AF drive PID loop is not always aligned especially on third party lenses. Do the microadjustment on backfocusing and you will be alright.
>>2882944
1000d doesnt have microadjust

>Autism: the thread
Hey /p/, I'm finally getting an online portfolio, and I'd like to hear you guys before publishing it.
I'm using Squarespace, which seems to be a good plataform... my idea is to have a simple, clean design. Hope it works well.
Also, I'd like to hear you about the chosen photos. I still may take out some of them, add another ones etc. (some of you may recognize some photos that I posted here in the past). My idea with this site is showing my work and possibly getting a job in photography. I have no specific area in mind at this moment, which may partially explain the somewhat... generalist?... character of the galleries.
Anyway, here's the link (sorry, still no domain... and sorry for the captcha too):
http://gabriel-rodrigues-wyt4.squarespace.com/
Obviously, feel free to post your own websites / portfolios / etc. I'd like to see some other portfolios for getting an idea on how others make this...
Pic somewhat related. It isn't in my site right now, but it was in previous versions...

Design is alright. Can't say I'm hugely fond of Squarespace's pricing when Format exists.
Some would suggest you leave out the "uncategorised" bit. It might be worth making a splash page providing it's tasteful
Design's ok. A bit basic, but that's not a bad thing. It's supposed to be about the pictures.
Don't know why you chose that pic with the kid as the first picture of Demonstrations. IMO it's the worst of the bunch and pic 2 and 3 are much more interesting and dramatic.
Also I'm pretty sure you don't want to refer to yourself at "it" on the About page.
>>2882430
Yeah, Squarespace seems kind of expensive...
I remember choosing it because Format had some issues, but I just can't remember the exact reasons right now (duh). Maybe something related with frequent updates that damaged templates or something?... can't remember. But I'm still in Squarespace's trial. There's time to change...
Good idea about the "uncategorised". Will look into that. Thanks!
>>2882436
You may be right about that pic - I always liked it for some reason, so my judgement is probably clouded...
Thanks for correcting my english (which isn't my native language, evidently). I was hoping that you guys would help me with this kind of stuff too.
