Carrying a black powder revolver for innawoods activities? I'm thinking about carrying my 31 caliber Remington pocket pistol. Any experiences?
If you can get something better (I.E. a modern handgun) - do it. If not, than bp can be good for scaring of animals, signaling and so on, although .31 cal is quite weak for most uses. .36 navy is generally considered the equivalent of 380 acp, which is the minimum recommended caliber for self defense. .31 will be weaker than that. Also BP revolvers are fairly unreliable - caps can jam up the action, not fire, misfire, chainfire... Generally if you live in a country where you can carry a better weapon - do it. If not - it looks mean, makes noise, can injure and potentially kill someone, and you can crack a skull with a good pistol whip.
how weak we talking here? Could I at least kill a person with it at 10-15 yards?
>>661249
It will kill him alright, but most likely in the hospital, after a day or two of bleeding out and giving false reports about how you attacked him. Adrenalin works wonders and it is possible that a person will still have time to hurt you, even after being shot. That happens with a lot of modern handguns even in good calibers. Also self defense against people will most likely happen in 1-3 yards. And typically it takes 2-3 shots to stop a person (if he does not get scared away by the sight of the weapon.) For that scenario you need not only a good caliber, but quick follow up shots. So single action only revolver with an unreliable mechanism is not very suitable.
Is Osprey the best for mid-price packs?

>not waterproof
>not carry-on size even without the daypack
>no tensioned mesh back for superb ventilation in tropical countries
>this is considered a good travel pack in the current year
Wew lad
>comes sprayed with scotchguard and has a rain cover, that's the red thing
>is perfect for carry on
>has tension mesh back for superb ventilation control in tropical countries

Stuck between these 2 bags for both a male and female.
Condor is $180, no frame (can get one though for around $50/$80 with straps), 50L, loads of MOLLE for gear.
Deuter is $240, has an aluminium internal frame, 50L +10L extention, though only has 2 external loops for gear.
Which shuld I go with? I'm hoping to get 5+ years from the bag.
Hey /out/,
I'm deciding to grow some plants in my backyard that are interesting yet somewhat difficult to grow. Would you guys recommend Opium Poppy and Foxglove? I have a bunch more plants I want answers from but I'm just asking ab out these 2 right now.

Interesting * op

Poppies are real easy to grow. Scatter seeds early and they germinate quickly. I never bother to thin mine, Just let them go. When they flower it is great. You can collect the seeds or dump them on the ground for next year. They're kinda like pepper shakers I say. Also, you can collect the seeds for cooking.
Try growing tobacco. I'm gonna get some seeds soon and give it a try.

I hike an out of the way forest service trail and today when I was hiking on it I came across this. It's 2 trees between 2 1/2 to 3 feet wide each. I only carry a Cold Steel Kukri (good for stuff up to 1 foot wide), Coghlans cheap small pruning saw, and a survival saw that is a chainsaw chain between 2 nylon straps.
No way I'm going to get through these with my normal stuff. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe just build a little bridge and wait until next year when the forest Service will come take care of it?

Hey /out/,
In the beginning of May I want to take a 2-week trip to Utah to spend a couple days in the 5 national parks there (Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, & Zion).
My plan is to drive there and camp somewhere near the parks, then drive in each day and do some hiking before driving out and finding a new campsite.
I planned a couple days at each park, plus a couple 'free days' in case I want to stay somewhere a little longer.
I have all the car-camping gear, clothing, and so on. Plan to eat normal camping-style food, with a resupply at the midway point.
Anyone have any experience doing this type of trip in this area, or any experience with these parks?
What are some cool things that I shouldn't miss?
What are some unusual items you wish you had brought with you?
Any /out/ QT living somewhere between Atlanta and Denver want to join me?
>>656422
First and foremost I'd like to give you an early welcome to this beautiful state.
>Cool things I shouldn't miss
Oquirrh Mountains
Antelope Island
Provo Canyon
San Rafael Swell
Goblin Valley
Kennecott Copper Mine (not exactly /out/)
calf creek falls
Dog Lake

rural people will not hesitate to rob you
above is especially true if you're dark/metropolitan
not everyone is Mormon
watch out for snakes, bobcats and bears depending on location
police are strict out here, more so in rural environments
check the weather and don't die in a flash flood
national parks are good for sightseeing but find elsewhere to camp
natives are trash people, don't talk to them.
Have fun in this great state anon
>>656647
Thanks, this is exactly the info I was looking for, I appreciate it!
When you say that rural people will not hesitate to rob me, does that mean like at gunpoint and steal all my money or plunder my camp/break my car windows when I'm not around?
>>656755
That other guy is a Nigger and he projects his raping, robbing, thieving murder culture on whites. You will never meet nicer people in the world than Mormons or utahans
Can /out/ recommend any good camping games or past-times to do with friends?
3 of us are going winter camping, and I'd just like to keep things from getting stale after we build the obligatory snow cave
bb gun and beer, plink empty cans
If Billy suggests you play "hide the pickle", don't fucking do it. Ask me how I know.
OP this is why I always keep a fresh roll of pasta in my pack. Always good to find pasta themed to suit the occasion - urbex pasta for urbex nights, halloween pasta for autumn, return-from-the-grave pasta when there's been a recent passing, winter pasta for winter camping, etc.
Draw me a knife that:
looks nice, in your opinion
or
is practical for a stated reason
or
will sell well for some reason
I'll pick one, make it and post it to you if you give a good drawing and reasoning.
TL;DR design a knife you would like to be made.

Oh shoot. I didn't try that, thanks anon
I have artifact hunted on some land in Florida, where they were known to be.
We dug a hole, a big hole. and then you stand in this hole and use a shovel to expose the side of the hole, and look for arrowhead or spear heads sticking out the side. we found several, taking turns in the hole, and drinking beer. you need to be careful, because your shovel will break the tip off the arrowheads pretty easy.
my brother in law found a beautiful spear head.
Why do pigs have tails? They're too short and curly to be useful for anything.
> can't swat flies like a cow or horse
> not useful for balance like a cheetah or greyhound
>>659561
Probably the same reason humans still have a tail bone.
Protip for the uneducated here: evolution is a process, not a result.
So in the Future Pigs will be Tailless?
>>659588
They'll have some sort of vestigial tail, but in the case of domestic pigs, evolution is a controlled process, so much like dogs, they'll have whatever traits we breed for. Or Monsanto will step in and they'll just be a huge slab of bacon with a mouth.
Hello /out/
I'm gonna backpack and travel through India in about 2 weeks, I'm gonna buy a 60-70 liter backpack. What should I fill it with? Recommand me some useful gear from your experience preferably In India.

How does a shut-in gamer like myself begin to learn the ways of /out/?
I'm tired of repeating the same process of school, vidya, eat like shit, gym, sleep. Want to get into hiking/camping. Any good sites/vids to better verse myself? Read most of the sticky now just need to find a starting point
Bump. Fellow shut-in anon who wants to get /out/ more.
Go for short walks at a local park as often as you can. Start planning longer hikes or day hikes and go from there. Camp sites or car camping could be a decent way to learn how to pitch camp, light a fire, etc. Looking up gear lists and that sort of thing helped me plan my first backpacking trip, but you certainly learn the most from your mistakes.

What does /out/ think of Survival Lilly? She seems to know her shit and her videos are pretty interesting. She hunts, builds shelters, and has legit bushcrafting skills. All I'm saying is that any woman who carries a cold steel SRK into the woods is alright with me.
Also, hot chicks inna woods general.

anybody ever grown milkweed before? I want to plant some native varieties in my backyard, starting from seed
I'm considering building a garden in my backyard, just a simple square design probably. It will be used for tomatoes, green onions, cucumbers, and other similar things. Maybe something for growing chili's too. Any suggestions are welcome.
Howdydoo, lads. Love ya' all.
It's no secret that outdoor activities are incredibly beneficial for the body, mind and spirit. Does it bring my fellow sc/outs/ to a better connection with whichever deities or lack thereof they worship? What religion do you follow, if any?
This isn't some kind of edgy 'muh mother naturr' thread, neither is it a place for theists and atheists to shit on each other, please take that stuff elsewhere.
I do ceremony, I don't talk to white people about it and I don't think western notions of "nature" and humanities place in it aligns with my understanding of it.
That being said I find other people feeling at one or connected to things valid and I'm not here to squash that.
>>643642
Could you clarify some more, though? I'm not that white, y'know.
>>643656
Prefer not to, anyway I will say there are many plastic shamans around and outsiders should be privy of those willing to sell you traditions so you can feel "one with nature"
