Hy /out/, /k/ommando here.
Long story short, my wife bought me a dehydrator for christmas and now I'm making my first batch of beef jerky at the moment. Can we have a thread where we collect everything about Jerky like reciepes, tricks, times in the dehydrator and temperatures?!
>>654104
I want that jerky in my mouth.
>>654104
Make sure it gets over 165 degrees F at some point. Trim all visible fat, it goes bad. I like to soak mine in the fridge overnight in whatever flavor I want on it. Try teriyaki, then rolled in coarse ground black pepper. Picante sauce and tabasco work well, too. Sea salt and black pepper are surprisingly good.

Does /out/ heed weather warnings?
>Inb4 your grandpappy didn't have them and he turned out fine.
Needing weather reports to survive is a fucking pussy move. A real man can deal with whatever the fuck arises.
>>655426
You don't need them to survive per say but if you know a fuck xbox hueg storm is coming why would you go out?
Being caught off guard is one thing but even then you should be prepared anyway when going out.
>>655426
right, but there's a difference between being able to deal with whatever happens and knowing to avoid it in the first place.
Hey out. I'm going to NZ again in the end of Jan for 2 weeks and am looking for some decent lightweight boots. I not really fond hiking shoes they sell in the shops in AUS
What is /out/s thoughts on these danner boots?

Im an NZer, what are you doing?

Just going to going around the south Island. Doing some walks in Authers Pass, Mount Aspiring and Aoraki national park.
Nothing crazy but I'll be on my feet a fair bit and want something better then my shitty Adidas that I've got.
I've been before but spent most of the time chilling and just enjoying the sights.
I climbed Mount Warning and Mount Barny in Australia in freeruns and it was the worst decision of my life.
pic related. Frans Josef Glacier

Look at Meindl Makalu Pros or equivalents preferably with a rand around the lower upper of the boot. The shale cuts boots to pieces.
I personally use Haix Nebraskas to hunt in the North Island, off the track Alpine in the South Island I think I would go a plastic alpine boot.
The Fällkniven Awakens edition.
Old thread is near bump limit.
I have to give you credit for choosing some good tier knife photos for general. the threads themselves are usually trash though.
>Just a friendly reminder that threads about weapons which do not pertain to their use in outdoor activities should be posted on /k/ instead. Thanks.

I got 1500 bucks and 6 months. What should I do out?
>>660365
A little vague. Do you have trans and where are you?
join my traveling band
That's perfect to be a grubber thru hiking the AT
I'm in the jacksonville area. From LA. I used to love hiking the San Gabriel mountains back home. I think the parks out here are pretty boring. Just a bunch of flats trails through swampland. Anybody have any ideas of things that can wow me, make my heart rate go up and possibly generate some adrenaline for me? I like water too.
>>658073
Come on down to south fl. I'll take you on a foot tour of the glades. Then smother you in rancid chicken fat. Let you try to make it back in one piece. That ought to get your thumper thumpin. Tourist.
>>658073
>foot tour of the glades.
Yawn

Search for nearby springs and go cave diving. Getting lost in cramped spaces will surely give you that rush
Any coyote hunters?
What are your strategies? Calls (electric or not)? Baiting?
Load outs?
what do you do with the remains? Pelts?

I just body slam them.
I've watched Alone in the Wilderness 1 and 2 about 10 times each and it just struck me: he never once mentions taking a shower or washing his clothes.
I get that he lived alone and didn't have to worry about using AXE (tm) Bodywash to attract grills, but how would he practice basic hygiene without even a gravity shower? He could have easily rigged something up to the bottom of the raised cache he built and warm water up on his stove.
Showering is for feminized cu'ckboys ,
Dick was above that mortal breeder bullshit.
There is another proenekke film where he talks about washing his clothes.
Also he has a washboard, its in a few photos of his cabin.
It looks cold where he is, he doesn't have the need to bathe as he doesn't sweat profusely, certainly looks too cold for most bugs and is sure he isn't shoveling shit or doing gross farm related chores.
If he truly needed to he could always steam shower and steam wash his clothes.
No idea were else to post this but I was on Google maps and saw this in the Sea of Okhotsk... just bored and overthinking it.
So guys what could be blacked out?

it's my house.
It's where they're keeping KAL flight 007. Look it up lots up inconsistencies in the supposed downing by the Russians.

What did /out/ get for Christmas?
Been a while since Christmas, so hopefully you've had a chance to try out some of the new stuff you got.
Post pictures of it here, talk about cool /out/ gifts you got. Maybe even stuff you got from the secret Santa thread.
>>659491
I did get a $50 gift card from bass pro. What should I spend it on /out/?
I honestly have everything I need for camping and fishing so what else is there to get?
OP here, I'll start.
Between my parents, wife, and other family I got a few cool things.
-Marmot Ares down jacket
-new Nalgene bottle to replace old one
-Morakniv Companion
-Arrowhead Equipment New River Long Winter underquilt
-Bahco Laplander folding saw
-Thermarest Compressable Pillow
>>659493
Base layers? Hiking socks? Just a nice hoodie?
They have all kinds of stuff on bass pros website. Maybe just some food to take /out/.
Something I got from there is a propane fish fryer I use caping (car caping o ly, its huge). It's pretty sweet, and costs like $50.
Sup /out/, /k/ here.
I just got picked up a 2014 Nissan Xterra as my first SUV. I want test out the 4WD system and see how capable it is.
Anyone know of any good areas in this area that wont get me a ticket?
best ive found near me so far are 1-2mi stretches of trail that run under high-tension lines. probably county owned.
>>657144
>stretches of trail that run under high-tension lines. probably county owned.
That's probably Con-Edison right of way, or whoever owns the lines.
Sorry not in NY
When off road drive in two wheel drive.
If you have an issue then switch to four wheel.
This is better then getting stuck in four wheel. Because you cannot switch to six wheel drive.
And you will learn the limitations of your vehicle,
But take a shovel, a chain, a come along with a weight rated for your vehicle and a high lift jack.

Your first step is to un-cuck yourself and get the fuck out of Jew York.
My favorite /out/ things are rock formations.
I will travel a great distance for a cool hike through interesting geological views.
Can we get a list going of the more interesting ones?
Badlands National Park in South Dakota comes to mind
>>656926
Badlands is on my list for this summer
Garden of the Gods in southern Illinois.
For all of us southernfags, dont you guys think spring is coming way too early?
I live in georgia, its not even half way through winter yet as of december, and the leaves are already coming back to the trees. The birds are fucking back. THE FUCKING BIRDS
i know alot of you /pol/ shitposters dont believe in global warming but that aside isnt spring coming pretty fucking early?
Pic unrelated
It's no coincidence that the winters have gotten shorter approaching the election year. The NWO is using weather altering technology in order to get people to buy into global warming and shift the political spectrum further left.
>>656355
Native Georgian here, our winters dont come until the new year, has been like that for years now, nothing new.

I will be going to the following things:
Golden Circle
Þingvellir National Park
Blue Lagoon
Reykjavik
Solheimajokull Glacier and the South Shore
I need to know what clothes to buy cause it will be next Autumn and I plan to do as much as possible. Also what should I do in Reykjavik?
>>646361
Late answerm I know
Go for a double-layer of softshell.. Went to Iceland last year in september, the temperature was okay, 5-8C, but the wind was a frickin killer. The native clothes are also awesome, a felted shirt which keep the wind and cold out. If you're going innawoods, remeber that offroad-driving is strictly prohibited, and they'll fine you for it. Scarf, beanie and softshell
>>646361
One good pair of long john silvers should do you

The funny thing about iceland is that the women are total whores for american men.
The big problem though is that this makes the men a nation of total cu'cks.
They will blame you for this even though its not your fault you fucked their hot women .
Protip: they dont even really have marriage over there.
The men have given up.
I want to give a bear spray to my brother for Christmas and maybe you could give me some advices.
First: he is a nogun living in Commiefornia, so forget about it.
Google told me I should get one with more than 8 ounces of product and a spraying distance of more than 25 feet.
What is the difference between a deterrent and a repellent?
What is best to stop a bear that decided that you are a threat?
Are Counter assault, Alaska Guard, frontiersman and pepper spray the only trademarks that make them?
Which can most quickly be used? How many time does it take to get it out of the holster and to remove the safety?
Is there any chance there is live tests on youtube?
Also, feel free to share your experiences in bear encounters.
>>646968
>he is a nogun living in Commiefornia, so forget about it.
If he can't survive in the woods he has no business there. A firearm is the only safe way to stop a large predatory animal from killing you. Black bears, the most abundant bear species in america, only attack humans when they're really hungry, so safest way to stop them is to make sure it can't eat you.
>>646977
And shooting a single bullet in the general direction of the bear with a bolt action hunting rifle while you shit yourself is not going to do that.
On the other hand, creating a wall that deactivate its eyes and lungs...
Now, I don't want to buy him a gun since he will probably not like it and it would be legally complicated, so can we get back to the topic?
>>646968
all pepper sprays are basically the same
pepper spray is good to have if you don't want to kill bears
also always have a staff. staff is like the mark of a true wizard for bears man with a staff is not to be messed with. sometimes even a stick will do.
