So I want to learn manual and I am just trying to visualize shit before I pick up my first car.

You know things I never noticed since I always just drove auto

I think I get the idea of how to shift up, but now it's down shifting and stopping

say if I was just driving normally in 2 or 3rd gear, can I just use the brakes as I approach a stop light like you would with an automatic? as in just press on the brakes, stop, then go back to first gear or whatever

or do you need to downshift as you approach?

also why do people say manual can get annoying in traffic.

wouldn't you already be in first gear and just need to release the brake and continue moving?

also is it possible to skip gears ?

Shifting gears?

Is that like listening to old vinyl because it's retro?

Maybe I'm lazy, but if I'm coming to a stop I just throw it in neutral and, well, come to a stop.

Driving my siblings car with broken gauges and the car dies. Checked the oil and it's bone dry. Put 3 quarts into it (2.2l) and it won't even turn over. No noise at all.

How do I diagnose the problem?

>>
>>16250211
How can I tell for sure? It's not making any noises that would indicate it's seized. Unless it's completely seized.
>>
>>16250245
Ya, running out of oil is a good way to seize an engine.

Throw a breaker bar on the crank, I bet it's locked solid.

Electronics/ECU stuff.

Why do manual cars still stall in the year of our lord, 2016?

Why can't the car just kick it into neutral when it detects a low speed stall out is about to occur?
92 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
>>16248791
It wouldn't be very manual then, would it?

>Why doesn't the car correct my mistakes

>just kick it into neutral

Because there isn't an onboard robot to physically move the shifter into neutral.

With that said, newer cars today like the Focus RS will automatically increase the idle to prevent stalling if the RPMs drop too low so it's good enough

ford nuts usually go crazy. instant bashing usually ensues.

I personally don't give a fuck, cheap, reliable, cheap to upgrade.

and compatible nv3500 5 speeds are as easy to find and as cheap as white rice around here.

at most this little clunker 305 is gonna put out 300hp at the crank with the cam and intake I'm using, but in this light turd burglar ranger it should be fun with a 5 speed.

How do wagons usually handle compared to their sedan counterparts?

Thinking of buying a '90-93 volvo 240 wagon or an '84-88 cressida wagon and not sure if wagons are right for me.

Didnt see an SQT or QTDDTOT

Most of the time pretty similarly, the weight will be different in the back (lighter or heavier depending on the car).

For the 240s in particular I know they're basically the same thing except the wagon has stiffer suspension from the factory in the back for carrying shit.

It should be extra illegal to drive a lifted F-150 with the LED headlights. Those things are the brightest lights I've ever seen.
26 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
HIDs are actually brighter than LEDs, neither are an issue if they're in the correct housing and aimed properly.
>>
Lifted trucks with bad headlight retrofits are nowhere as bad a a semi tractor with a bad headlight retrofit kit. It's especially bad then the headlight housing jiggles like a motherfucker. Even manlet matt in his bro truck gets blinded.
>>
>>16247275
>HIDs are actually brighter than LEDs

Proper HID's are pretty focused so they only blind you if they're adjusted wrong or stuffed in a normal headlight housing. Most modern cars are going to LED headlights which come mis-adjusted from the factory and scatter light everywhere.

this was HARD FUCKING WORK.
was really stressed out since days because i knew it will come to this.
i was afraid i would miss it, never have i been so wrong, the last 10 kilometers i looked more on the digits than on the road.

i found a nice calm road like 3 kilometers before, drove 1.5km and turned around.

note how even the hundreds are correct, its literally perfect. i stopped EXACTLY in front of the gate of some security airport shit and that guy came out but i was too busy taking pics.

Looking at buying a Fiero GT

What should I look out for when buying ome? What's the max amount of miles I should buy one at? Guess I'm asking for a general buyer's guide to Fieros

Look for a very cheap Ferrari. Scratch that. Any Ferrari. Chances are it's probably a Fierro with a body kit.
>>
>>16244840
most morons are going to tell you to look at MR2's instead. Just ignore them. The Fiero is more forgiving to drive, has a much larger aftermarket, is easier to find parts for, easier to work on since all the body panels detach and is just easier to find period. They made neat 400,000 Fiero's from 1984-1988. When you compare that to the MR2's WORLDWIDE production numbers throughout it's entire 1984-2005 lifespan (around 330,000), it's easy to see why the Fiero's are so much easier to find.

As to Fiero's remember they were constantly being changed throughout production. The best models to go for are later models, particularly 1987 or 1988. 1988 models had bespoke suspension not interchangeable with any other Fiero, so 1988 Fiero suspension is 1988 specific. 1987 cars can use 1984-1987 parts though which makes them easier to care for, even though the 88's handled better.

Just make sure the car was well taken car of. With regular maintenance, those GT 2.8L V6's were fairly bulletproof. And they share architecture with many of GM's later pushrod V6's (but not the 3800), so swaps to 3.1L, 3.4L or even 3.5L are common and fairly simple. The most common swap is the DOHC 3.4L from 1991-1997 since it just drops into place and makes over 200 HP
