>the Aventador is 2,030mm/79.9" wide
Who thought this was a good idea?
>>16281695
well it's fast
Americans make their trucks and SUVs 80 inches wide and they constantly claim it's the best thing ever.
>ITT: OP designs performance cars for a living
Alright /o/,
I own a 2004 Mini Cooper S R53 and it's caused me nothing but problems. Constant breakdowns, very expensive parts. It seems most mechanics have no idea what the fuck to do with them unless I travel to the nearest city.
They're a joy to drive but a curse to own so I'm going to buy something Japanese.
Currently looking at 2003 - 2006 Nissa Skylines (350GT) as they seem like great bang for buck.
What suggestions can you make on a reliable, aesthetically pleasing car that won't break down once in between each service?
I know that feel.
>2006 Audi A4 S-line
>Amazing car
>Basically bought everything from the APR parts catalog, good suspension, BBS wheels
>Performed and looked beautiful
>Back-to-back problems
>Expensive repairs that I never had to deal with when I owned Japanese
I finally sold the car after getting it fixed enough. I couldn't afford to own it anymore. Awesome car tho...
Why not get the German or Japanese equivalent of your current car? Or are you done with Hot Hatches for now?
My current car is a MazdaSpeed3. Love it. Great power stock, even better when modified. Plenty of space for people and stuff. Mazda reliability with Ford availability, can't beat it.
Otherwise a GTI would probably be similar to what you're use too, but I'd stay away from European in general (I swore them off entirely except for very specific cars)
>>16281510
Buys good car, ruins reliability by ricing it out, blames it on not being Japanese.
>The Real Understeer Simulatorâ„¢
>>16280684
If theres a reason why you are understeering its because you dont know how to drive to your cars restrictions desu
>>16280845
the understeer in gt4 was pretty stupid though

Dear /o/,
I've always liked the look of these Lancers, and I'm very interested in buying one as a DD. Local guy has an '02 with 120k miles on it and asking $2000.
Has anyone here owned one before? How was it like? Any tips? Any common issues? Things to look out for?
I live in Northeast New England and hardly drive every day. I definitely do not drive more than 8-10,000 miles/year.
Appreciate any advice.
I owned an '04 with an uglier front end for about a year
They're pretty shit desu. If I was at my parent's place I could pull out a list of repairs I had to do on the damn thing, cost well over like $2000
>kept misfiring and stalling out at lights
>new spark plugs
>ignition coils and wires
>brakes rebuilt
>constantly overheating
>water pump replaced
>ran for a week before it overheated again
>this time it was the electric fan controller
>overheated again a month later
>this time the fans needed to be replaced
>over heated again a couple weeks after that
>the alternator wasn't providing enough power to spin the fans fast enough in traffic
>ignition switch needed to be replaced, was totally useless and took 5 minutes of jiggling the key around to start it
>weather strip wore out and let the rain in, all needed to be replaced
>AC evaporator clogged up, raining AC water in the passenger footwell
>blower motor only worked at full blast or not at all after that
>AC needed a recharge, even though the car was only 10 years old
That's just what I can remember off the top of my head. I was at school in another country so I didn't have any tools, time, or patience to fix it myself. Thankfully there was a shop right next to my school that did it for dirt cheap and never lie or tried to up sell me on shit, we need more mechanics like that in the world
>>16280736
Here's a shot of the interior. Not gonna lie sitting inside it was pretty comfy
>>16280736
Dang man. That is a long list. Disappointing to hear.
Man...
For all my fellow Aus fags: how the fuck did we go from the VF to this piece of shit?
And its not even Australian, its a German import Opel insignia. Plus are people even gonna buy it?
I think we should have the option to still buy the Aussie version of the commodore vs having the option to also buy the european version if you wanted to
Also which one looks better, top or bottom? And why?
>>16280554
GM didn't want to spend the resources to develop a new aus car, so they recycled an opel...
>>16280554
Bottom one looks like an Impala.
>>16280570
i can understand that, i think they spent a few million dollars designing the VE commodore, regardless im pretty sure most aussies are happy with the current Gen-F version and wouldn't care if a new one wasn't designed for a long time
why do women ignore the check engine light?
>>16280461
same reason your mother abandoned you.
she was on her way to my dick
>>16280461
Because most of society couldnt give 2 fucks about a car outside of getting from point a to b and having dick waving contests with their neighbors. This is why so many auto shops exist, their customers dont care why something is wrong they just want it fixed.
>>16280461
I ignored it when I was 15 and I am a male. Killed my 95 Camry. I didn't know cars had fluids that needed to be changed other than gas. I didn't know repair shops existed for a reason. All I knew is my mom said Toyotas were good cars and would last forever. I didn't understand the link between that and maintenance.
I didn't have a dad to teach me random shit like that, so I learned from my mistakes.
>What exactly was the point of creating an automatic transmission?
Was it pure laziness from the engineers or the consumers?

>Was it pure laziness from the engineers
No
>>16280340
>What exactly was the point of creating an automatic transmission?
To make an easier to use transmission?
Normal people dont usually consider knowing how to drive stick a point of pride, anon. Its just a useful thing to know.
>>16280360
My mechanical mind can't process how lazy people are.
Are winter tires a meme?
>>16276286
Not in Canada no.
Summer tires all year master race.
which car will get me the most ass on a 10k budget /o/
im thinking ether the most modern looking sporty car or most modern looking 4dr pick up
Nothing you teenager
>>16273086
Get a motorcycle.
Still won't get you laid.
bitches love wranglers op,get a 2dr
lift, good tires, good exhaust and a tune should be reasonably cheap
Whats the longest period you kept the same car?
Been driving this nigger since 2009 (7 years)
>>16270637
Of slightly more than 10 years I'm (legally) driving, I've had my M5 for 5 of that.
>>16270637
>almost a whole decade of seeing that sad face each day
>>16270692
its a mirror of my soul, sadness and depression
Alright m8s, trying to decide on a new car (i.e. not used). Have it narrowed down to the following:
>Mustang GT (Premium Fastback)
>Camaro 2SS
>Camaro ZL1
>BMW M2
Original goal was to keep it around $50k, obviously some of the above go over that, the main exception being the ZL1, but I can justify it if it stays near its quoted $60k mark.
Any other cars I should look at that are in the same price bracket as the above? An Audi maybe?
Performance, fun, and comfort are priorities in that order. Not interested in anything without at least 350hp, preferably more.
Want to start test driving on Tuesday.
tl;dr:
>Which of the listed cars is best and why?
>Any other cars not listed that would be better (or worth looking at) for around $50k and why?
Thank you.
>>16270361
Is that the girl from harry potter?
>>16270365
Yes and I think the picture is just from a photoshoot, not a movie.
forget about the 2 camaros straight away, they have garbage interiors and no visibility
S550 Mustang and BMW M2 are both good choices
M2 is kinda cramped and the ride is quite firm but it is an amazing driving machine. Mustang is cheaper to run and a better DD.
Why does it smell so good?
Does E85 smell different than regular ethanol + gas sold at pumps?
>using the energy black hole known as e85
its like you hate the environment
>>16286503
>not pushing 28+ psi of boost.
Its like you hate life.
how many of you like towbars so people don't crash into you?
thinking of getting one. HOw much do they cost?
>>16286222
Boy, you might be legally retarded
>>16286222
I had a tow hitch on my sedan and it's a fucking stupid idea. I'd rather let my bumper do what it's designed to do than to make my frame take the force.
Getting a tow hitch for that reason is absolutely retarded.
>>16286229
>>16286240
Not OP, but why is it a bad idea?
Would you rather own a Mark III Supra or a NIssan R32 GTR?
>>16285642
r32gtr.
this is coming from someone who can get both at near same price
>>16285642
I choose option C: FD.
MK3 Supra
An R32 GTR would be stolen or attempted to be stolen by every Mexican in the Mohave desert. Besides that, I can actually get parts for a MK3 at Autozone and the MK3 is a much more luxurious, smooth riding car
Hey guys just a little update on that r154, i cracked open the case and removed all the shift rods. i think what was wrong is the balls got stuck in place as they were a bitch to take out. According to the guy the tranny just sat for a year and thats why it got stuck. Need less to say i got i all put back together and its perfecto. $400 r154 ez
fuck off this isn't an automotive board
