So I just bought a 2003 Xterra with 111k a month ago and it had lots of mantaunce do to it like the the timing belt 10k ago
But after I took the heat shield off cause it was rattling
Now that's gone I hear tick at idle that sounds like lifter and a faint knock under 2000rpms when I accelerate what could this be?
It's a 3.3l VG33E
>vg
The engine was developed in the early 80's. Of course it sounds like shit. It's likely totally normal.
>>16280870
I have never seen one of those before
>>16280870
>I took a heat shield off
>Now I hear engine noises

I made a video. If you can tolerate the autism and want to see more I'll do oil changes, alignment/setup changes, how to change the gear ratios in the transmission, how to use the data logger, and anything else I run into once I get a gantry crane. No bully pls.
Hopefully I can avoid setting off the smoke alarm in the future.
>>16280680
I approve of banana. someone will watch that if you make it.
My suggestions: first and foremost, more light. Videos are a visual medium and I can't see shit.
Also either get a handheld stabilizer or stabilize in post. Shaky handheld footage isn't really acceptable anymore.
You definitely have the right idea with the editing though, keep going that direction.
My request is that if you change the setup, give us before/after footage that demonstrates the changes you make. Watching parts get swapped is half of it, seeing the tangible effect it has on performance/handling ties is what makes it worth watching for me.
>>16280825
Thanks, I'll try to get some more light in the garage. If I do stuff on the weekends I can use the daylight from outside. It might also help to record with something other than a gopro. Making videos isn't exactly my forte.
I will try to do some before/after stuff for setup changes, maybe after I get the basics up there.
when is germany gonna start making their cars reliable?
Never. Those inept hypefaggots rake in pronographic sums in parts markup off of gullible losers.
>>16280675
They did with the W126 I believe, then they gave up and went for vursprung durr technik which is cool for about 3 years before it breaks.
Judge for yourself if those years are worth it. The germans still make excellent cars like the 911 in pic.
since forever
they are the only nation to win the marathon de la route (nurburgring 84 hours. yes. eighty four)
also the 911 can do this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5DRCTW-Q7o
whereas american cars such as the corvette literally overheat and shutdown into limp mode while idling in a parking lot
What's stopping me from buying a salvage title Charger, swapping a junkyard Hemi/tranny in and calling it a day?
You having any type of mechanical competence
>>16280640
dunno how it works where you are but here in Canada a salvage title inspection is such a bitch to pass its usually not worth it
>>16280645
Fair enough.
I do recognize that I'll need a new ECU, suspension, brakes and shit though.
>>16280650
Ah, shit. Canada here too, may as well just find a rolling shell or something then
Can someone tell me what's wrong with this engine bay? All these carfags are freaking out
>>16280487
Is it the pod filter directly over the exhaust?
air cleaner's in a bad spot, and those hoses coming out of the valve cover look like the wrong kind of hose to have in an engine bay
>inline six
into the trash
Hey /o/, redpill me on the Porsche 924
>>16280318
it sucks
>>16280318
Its not a 944
>>16280318
It's has a more reliable straight 4 sourced by Audi, because it came out a van.
Most natural aspirated models from the 70s only have two disc brakes.
The turbo model is one of the few trims that had brake discs all the way around.
Most of the interior parts are the same you'd find in a VW and Audi econbox
Van engine is slow but tunable to a degree.
That's all the info I have, I'd still want a 924 over a 944 cause muh narrow body. But I'd pay extra dosh for the turbo even tho it's a prehistoric turbo setup.
>mfw i spot this in one of the poorest areas in my city when i was hunting for some coke
>having to chase blow
>not being roommates with your dealer
Fucking casual
>>16280097
>not having a sweet name for your dealer in your phone and having him deliver to you
>having to live with degenerates coming and going all day
Fucking pleb
>>16280092
So you found some yay I take it?
This leak on my car is the never ending fucking story. Thermostat housing is leaking from the bottom. Tried sealing with only JB Weld Water Pump silicone.
Didn't work.
Ordered an OEM gasket from Toyota.
Still leaking with the gasket AND silicone.
How the fuck do I seal this shit, /o/. It's on a 16v 4A-GE.
What should I use?
>>16280004
REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND GASKET DUMBASS.
>>16280048
read the OP I DID DUMBASS
>>16280068
silicone only works if everything is clean and dry.
no oil
no coolant
nothing on there.
take it all apart and make sure everything is spotless and try again
THE AE86 IS THE BEST CAR AND ANYONE WHO DISAGREES IS STUPID
Itsuki pls go
>>16279902
i like s12 hatches more
the only way that would bet a stock evo to the bottom of a hill is if you pushed it off a cliff
how would you explain this to your parents?
own up to it, don't be a bitch, and offer to buy another one.
>>16279634
Mom, Dad, I'm... ...I'm a faggot ricer cuck who is long overdue for suicide.
>>16279634
say your toyota just accelerated on it's own
Hi, i have a coolant leak. the car is a ford expedition 1997, does anyone know which part this is? it's located under the dash, behind the heater hoses.
thanks.
>>16279595
kinda hard to tell, but my guess is heater core. that's the only thing under the dash that has coolant in it.
>>16279595
>cheap ford cost-cutting strikes again
>>16279595
>located UNDER DASH
>BEHIND HEATER HOSES
Obviously it's the fucking heater core idiot.
is it possible to daily an unimog? are they a good alternative for a truck?
Ofcourse. You'll just come to hate how loud, uncomfortable, expensive and heavy it is
Might aswell get a C303 6x6 or a Pinzgauer 6x6 while you're at it
>>16279593
Just get a Deuce and a half. Spend the other 50 grand on fuel and blow to do off the asses in the back.
>>16279601
would be cool but even harder to find parts
> 1969 Datsun 510 Wagon
> 80k miles
>clean title
>$4500 obo
tell me why i shouldnt buy this?
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/cto/5903503133.html
>>16279551
>> 80k miles
Probably closer to 180k
Most likely hidden major rust as is typical of older Nissans
>but it's a Datsun
Same shit, my granpappy had one.
I'd give him $2k at most.
>>16279551
>> 1969 Datsun
>>$4500 obo
that's why
>>16279551
Don't know about New York but this is considered a pre-smog car in CA and therefore is highly valuable because you can do whatever the fuck you want to it and still have it be road legal.
If it has very low rust (i.e., nothing out of the ordinary), I'd offer 3500.
Does /o/ have a designated winter shitbox to protect your "valuable" shitbox from salt and snow? Post and share experiences.
Here's mine. 2000 Saturn SL1. Bought it for $300 and came with new snows, it's slow as fuck but a beast in the snow even with an automatic
>>16279497
Yup, I just picked this up yesterday so snow, rain or salt doesnt get on my rust free miata.
I got it for $3k.
nice winter shitbox tho OP
>>16279497
Nice, I got its little brother, the ion, for pretty cheap
Saturn cars are pretty decent little shitboxes.
Dies the sl1 have that awesome automatic seatbelt? The fuck happened to that? Coolest feature I remember as a kid in a Saturn
>tfw Texas
feels good.
What track is this?
>>16279190
What country is it in?
