A lot of people seem to hate it but I kinda dug AoE (which a lot of people also seem to hate.) although that felt like multiple movies smashed together thanks to the China arc.

Not expecting much but I've seen them all so I might as well finish it off.

Do fanboys really think that's the only reason why some people don't give a rat's ass about their favourite show? Stop using it as a reason to justify your like or dislike of a show.

Take TTGL for example. The fans overhyped it to hell back then, but after watching it once, I never looked back on it, and the only reason it's on my mind recently is because people would post it all the time on other boards. (10th anniversary etc) There are many things I didn't like about TTGL which I won't extrapolate here, but if people want to have their pie, I really don't care. Whatever floats your boat.

It's the same shit with Evangelion. It's funny how the fans keep reminding us about how Evangelion is so popular and influential, and yet, I never hear people talk about it in anime normie circles.

But it doesn't begin and end with TTGL and Evangelion. There are shows I don't give a shit about besides those two like Gunbuster, Code Geass and Astroganger.

Are there any good mecha revenge stories? Pilots always seem to be fighting for a higher cause. Not that I can't get behind that but I feel like watching something different.

I'm fairly new to mecha shows (only seen 0079, Zeta, Wing, 08th MS, VOTOMS, some Macross and Code Geass) so if there are some obvious examples I'm overlooking please forgive my ignorance.

How do you like them? What are your favorites? How tall would you make your fantasy mecha?

It seems like its a really hard mixing of genres to find. I've only seen Magic Knights Rayearth but I've been wanting to watch Aura Battler Dunbine. Are there any other fantasy themed mecha shows out there?

Escaflowne's probably the most prominent. Scrapped Princess also sort of does this, though it's a different style than a conventional mecha show. I'm quite fond of both of these.

There's tons of fantasy mecha depending on how broadly you want to stretch "fantasy," as well as how far you want to stretch "mecha"

For example, I recently finished Beast Warriors Gulkeeva, a show about furries in power armor fighting giant robots from another dimension in the ruins of the Shinjuku prefecture alongside a human avatar of an ancient God. It was okay. Animation needed to be better and it needed to not be cancelled halfway through. Had some decent moments though, such as when a hotheaded Solid Snake lookalike joined them for an episode
