Anyone here know an adjective that means "it takes too long to explain so it's redundant?"
retarded
What do I get my girlfriend who's into VC Andrews? She's read parts of the Dollanganger series but I'd like to get her something good from a series she hasn't read yet.

my diary desu ;^)
any good examples of 'ironic' literature? I'm looking for something in the vein of the 'dank' memes that have become popular among the hip, tech-savvy 'millennial' crowd...
That's what 4chan is, dummy.
Post videos about Joyce/Pynchon/other meme authors.

Actually reading Infinite Jest has to be the dumbest fucking thing anyone's ever done
Do you have to be intelligent to be a writer? were there any greats that were just plain retarded

>were there any greats that were just plain retarded
Karl Marx, Freud, Foucault and all that other leftist nonsense. Of course, they weren't "great" at all

John Steinbeck showed that if you're just persistent, any idiot can write a book
>tfw love to read
>tfw nearly never read anything anymore
What is this quintessence of dust?
>tfw love to read except when tired
>tfw life has made me constantly weary

'Tis a degenerate modern world we live in, dear Sir.
We must erect a society which reflects the values of Utopia on earth, something akin to the 1950s, before the communists took power

Contrary really, every kid I know is hyper-sexual which is why there are so many teen mothers.
what are some good sci-fi robot romance novels (maybe some thematically similar to the pygmalion story)?
>>8295119
Lester Del Ray wrote a short story called "Helen O'Loy" that basically checks the block for a Robot Pygmalion romance in the Western canon. For anything else you either need to look into Amazon erotica or manga/light novels.
You're welcome. Have a nice day.
Anyone read this yet? Picked it up a few days ago, read through the first three poems and really enjoyed them. The poems are surreal and mythical in some sense, which I really like, but still maintain a somewhat subdued aspect to them which I enjoy.

Morelike the Laughter of the Sphincter, am I right?
Here is the first poem of the collection:
Idiot Song
By permission of the sun,
the arctic chill descends.
In a teacup storm,
in a sentence the logician's fate
and poetry an enemy of the state
of things
by the roadside in a ditch
or beneath a buckled bridge.
Now it is our wounds
that make love in the streets,
wounds hastily dressed
with vetiver and mint
while slender poplars bend
amidst the violent winds.
What is your name,
mindless sun?
What idiot song
will mark your end?
I asked a painter why the roads are colored black.
He said Steve it's because people leave and no highway will bring them back.
I'm writing a screenplay set mostly in the 1710s in southwest England. Have thematic foundation, characterisation etc. all complete along with the first 33 mins, which are set in the present day. I know how it's going to end and the thematic, character arc and plot points I need to hit along the way. However I have struggled to find useful resources for historical research so far- I don't really want to start fleshing out the rest of the story until I have a better understanding of ordinary (read: not ruling classes) life etc. of the period and can bring the screenplay to life.
In addition I don't seem to be able to find many artists' impressions of, say, what an ordinary English town would look like in the era, just unrealistic cartoonish woodcuts and suchlike made at the time, which makes it hard for me to get a grasp on my setting in a really visceral and tactile sense. I want an earthy tone, think There Will Be Blood or the earthbound portions of Interstellar, and that's not easy to do when there doesn't seem to be a lot of material to sink one's teeth into. Also not sure whether to err towards 1700s resources or 1600s as it's so early into the century.
Obviously I know that too much historical detail can overload a screenplay and can be unnecessary, but it's good to have a sense for the setting you're writing. Anyone with experience in historical fiction here?

check out Lindybeige on youtube, good starting point. I am writing a book set some while earlier then you and trying to research lots of the same stuff.

Since the play and soon to be movie are universally hated (even by reddit and tumblr), lets pretend they are erased and YOU are now in charge of writing the fan fiction that will become the next canon in the harry potter franchise,
what will you do?

do you have any idea how many critically acclaimed novellas you could be digesting instead of that slog?

If you can't force yourself try and manipulate yourself. Either force yourself to move away from your room and into the library, whatever. Or try and follow a strict reading routine. It is much like working out, it requires discipline for however fun reading might be, it often still feels like a chore because you have to put in hard work to fully appreciate difficult literature. It is only while we are reading or after we have finished a book that we truly appreciate the fruits of our labor, but never before.
As Iam writing this I have told myself for the past 30 minutes to go and finish Herodotus. But here I am, on 4chan for my feeble brain can only digest small posts and only bring up the energy for small responses not merely because I've just gotten back from the gym but moreso because we're programmed to preserve energy only when a situation requires us to do so. In a fact we can only manipulate ourselves if we want to achieve the things we want to achieve.
