I won't do it lads.
Right now, I'm stuck with Human Action.
How is the challenge going on?
>>8792339
Do you have to pick from their list of books? I already have mine picked out for the rest of the year.
Interested in challenging myself with it in 2017
>>8792508
You just set how many books you want to read for a year.
How many do you think you can read next year?
I'll try 50 again.
1 book away from 200%. No I didn't set the challenge to 1 book.
>inb4 why are you losers reading for arbitrary numbers / why are you losers showing off / do you losers really need to set goals and force yourselves to meet them in order to read
It's really just a helpful forecast of the coming year, and you can keep track of how well along you are. I don't think anyone takes it this seriously.
How do you guys feel about this? Is it okay to censor literature or is it wrong to showcase works that use words like nigger that are frowned upon nowadays?

Proof that SJW and butthurt culture is no longer a vocal minority
>>8792295
Lad this is about Virginia, not California. This one isn't on liberals. Conservatives have a long history of banning books for retarded reasons.
>Banning race mixing propaganda is a bad thing
Are there any philosophers that discus local action and local problems?
>>8792266
You simply apply traditionalist philosophy on a local level and build a community.
>>8792266
Local Masonic Lodge.
Do you mean communitarians?
Elaborate on whatever you mean with local action and problems.
Anybody reading some good poetry tonight?
Got my hands on this old copy of "The Collected Poems of Rupert Brooke".
Anyone know anything about it?
Also, general poetry thread.
Forget to show these two.
>>8792217
That looks pretty. How is it so far?
>>8792247
Actually, very nice. I'll show some of it.
How does a writer decide which form suits him best? Or at least which form/s to focus on
One minute I'm think I definitely want to write poems, but then I read a great short story and I think oh I can't ignore this form, then I read a novel and the same thing happens.
Are there any great writers who really were jack of all trades?
Most seem to be best at one form
>>8792216
Maybe you should try actually writing and see how it goes.
One thing that usually helps them decide is realising that it's current year and poetry is dead and buried as an art form.
Do what feels natural.
If it doesn't feel natural, keep writing, trying different things until it does.
If it never feels natural, take up theater or some shit.
>Are there any great writers who really were jack of all trades?
No. They all had weaknesses, but they were great because they stuck to their strengths.
>The celebrated academic Harold Bloom is a lightning fast reader; blink and he's probably turned the page – twice. In his prime he could churn through 1,000 pages an hour.

Does /lit/ really believe this bullshit?
>Tai Lopez can churn through a book a day

Your favorite channels on YouTube for literature analysis?
"Hi, I'm John Green and this is Crash Course Literature."
Why youtube specifically?
>>8792115
Because the free market sucks at producing quality amateur analyses.

Dropped.
I saw OP; he was a faggot.
>>8792039
I use semi-colons; what are you going to do about it?
>>8792049
this is wrong you faggot
How does one become a poet? I get it, write poetry and be good at it, but let's say an individual has a bunch of work that he'd like published, what next?
Don't most publishers just reject people because they aren't famous classical poets? It's like in the art music scene where people don't really care about hosting your piano recital if you're doing original music. People want the big names of old.
I guess by being a semi-attractive mexican female drug addict who pretends to be a feminist.

What do you do when you have read so much philosophy books that you start finding flaws in literally every ideology in existence? What do you believe in?
I feel like I need something to believe in in order to not spiral into depression, how do I fill the gap?

>so much philosophy books
This is a board about proper English.

apparently the best way to deal with the social/racial issues in this country is to simply pretend that they didn't happen and just sweep them under the rug. these people are absolutely ignorant.
Retarded. Not that teaching something else for a change would be a bad thing, but still reatrded.
Any readers here of Oscar Wilde?
I thought he was a little pretentious. Tried reading Dorian Gray, couldn't get into although I hear the ending pays off. Also tried reading his essay about an "artist as a critic" or something. Also pretentious.
I enjoyed reading his fairy tales. .
>>8791810
Being pretensious was his essence imo. He was the definition of dandy,in an era where it was accepted to be so. It would be pretensious if he acted lile that today working at a minimum wage job. It's all about context
