Okay, so I've concluded that tractatus is unreadable on it's own. Is there a book that explains it in layman's terms?

Get the commentaries by cora diamond, Roger white, and anscombe. You could also just google "tractatus syllabus" and see what they recommend

I actually enjoyed Oscar Wao, but I haven't read anything else by him. Not exactly a Joyce, but more interesting and entertaining than say Pynchon or Wallace

I am over six feet tall, and white. I have played football (American). My IQ is as high as it goes, though I don't put stock in that nonsense. I have read all the books in the canon in chronological order and their original languages. I am already a published and celebrated author, as well as a multi-billionaire due to timely investments and a sizeable inheritance from my beloved parents. I have doctorate degrees in physics, philosophy, literature, and nine other subjects. When I played on my priceless Stradivarius a flawless rendition of a Mozart sonata, the audience, all masters of the instrument themselves, wept and several of them chose to thereafter retire. I am unparalleled when it comes to unarmed combat, having pioneered a syncretic martial art of my own that, if widely practiced, would far outshine those used in the top mixed style tournaments. By night, I don a suit of cutting-edge battle armor and emerge from my secret base to hunt thugs and ne'er-do-wells, manning an extremely fast vehicle I like to call the Batmobile.

I saw a picture that said /lit/ had the most intelligence of all the boards.

Was this a joke image? Because I always thought maybe /sci/ would be the most intelligent because of reasons, but I am a an /x/ board native and so we are apparently the stupidest, thus I don't know.

I like reading books about aliens, is what I'm getting at.

Is this book fiction or non-fiction?
48 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
No matter your views on the holocaust being real or fake/largely overblown, most people agree that the book is either complete fiction written after the fact by her dad (don't have proof right now, but I remember hearing that the handwriting in the original journal is the same as her fathers), or a largely dramatized fantasy by a bored young girl.
>>
>>8787003
both
>>
Clearly fiction. You might be dumb enough to believe that the Holocaust happened, but you shouldn't be so dumb that you think a female is capable of writing anything of significance.

He was as old as it was years before her birth.

So if she was born in the year 2000 and he's looking back to 1970, he was 30 years old then.

Im new to /lit/ been looking at some threads....I don't really get the constant hype of DFW and IJ. He's not really considered in the same league as Joyce Nabokov etc right? Do people seriously believe he's the best or is it just a meme?

A lot of it is just ironic memeing I'm pretty sure. /Lit/ is so "postmodern" and cynical that it's often difficult to distinguish between trolling, sarcastic ironic memeing, and genuine posts.

Is there a good, brief book on the Roman Empire? No more than around 500 pages. I just want the broad strokes.

Greek influence, fall of the republic, main events and people, Christianity, Germanic people arriving on the scene, collapse and the aftermath.

Sorry if this should be on /his/.

>>8786927
I am also interested.

I suspect it may be quite difficult to find a good, concise book about the entire history of the Roman Empire, however.
>>
>>8786937
I would settle for a mediocre one if it hits all the important points desu. I just don't want a huge tome because I know I won't finish it. Right now my knowledge is based on podcasts and video games I played as a kid.
>>
Great question - not one that I know of. Most written on Rome has a lot of depth/complexity. You might be best off with wikipedia, youtube videos or RTW, then looking at primary sources for events you're particularly interested in.

is he, dare I say it, the great American author?

He looks like a literal cocksucker. Like he's had to wash cum from his moustache at least a dozen times. Like he's, in this very image, admiring a shirtless male's rippling abdomen and about to compliment it in a low, tense, musical voice.

So yeah, very possibly.
