What's the /lit/ consensus on this one? Over 850 pages and looks like a good starting point, but one amazon review (I know, you shouldn't take most of them serious, but still) says, that the translation is subpar because political correctness was more important to the translator than correctness of the texts. Please tell me this isn't true, at this rate I'll never get into it. Won't even bother with the german translation, since this one is pure horseshit. I hate it when things get lost or worse, falsified in translation.

Well I havent read it, but I've read The Gnostic Gospels which is a fantastic book onthe Nag Hammadi Library by Elaine Pagels, who is doing the intro. Its only about 200 pages but is considered the seminal introductory work on the library and is used in almost all of big popular works on the subject.
Allso there is a good course in the Teaching Company called Gnosticism: From Nag Hammadi to the Gospel of Judas, which is taught by a chair at Ohio State. Easy to pirate. Finally Bart Ehrman's Introduction to the New Testament is a great intro to gospel of thomas, which he believes is as good as a synoptic/q source.

Also reading the review in questionpretty well done desuthe comments suggest The Nag Hammadi Library, 1990 edition, edited by James M. Robinson

According to an anon from an earlier thread I made, this edition contains more accurate translations of the PC bits in the footnotes.

Something for nothing
I've been depressed for a while. My mind is generally mush and I struggle to concentrate on reading. So my two part question:
1. How can I get over this concentration problem?
2. What books can I read that are great yet easily readable and digestible?

1.eating the right nutrition will do absolute wonders for your mental health. Supplement healthy eating with a workout regimen and daily meditation (start at 5 minutes and slowly work upwards to 20) and I guarantee you will see improvements.
2. I'd read Siddhartha

Why is this book horrifically translated and riddled with grammar errors?
Why is it so historically inaccurate? Why are the dates of important events like 30 days off from when they actually occurred?
Overrated much?

After like 6 hours my brain just turns to mush, and I can't think anymore. Am I a brainlet? Any tips to push my boundaries?
Walk around the room while thinking of what to write next.
If it doesn't work, go outside and walk for half an hour while thinking about the same thing, then go back and write.
Don't force it. If you have written something good, and feel like you know what to say next, wait for tomorrow, so that you'll have something to write without without stalling.
Maybe its because you're a fucking human being that needs rest once in a while like everyone else.

Haven't thought of the last one, definitely helpful.

Should I major in literature, philosophy or Japanese studies?
>>8856859
lmfao
Can someone honestly explain the point of majoring in humanities? If you love to read books and study philosophy, read books and study philosophy, you don't need a "I've wasted 5 years of my life and acquired a debt" certificate to hang on a wall for that.
Go into STEM and be useful, faggot

What are /lit/'s thought on RAW?
Introduced me to Korzybski and Bateson reading Finnegans Wake to resist Francis E. Dec thought control and the general optimism of postwar cosmonauts before it was absorbed back into yuppie authenticity and churned out in star-shaped gruelblocks to be jammed down your throat by Apple iPod Incorporated
Has some comfy talks up on Youtube
I love him, only got into mememaster Pynchmon through him, thank u RAW for feeding me the freshest of maymes
Hey, same, he introduced me to Pynchon, top mememaster. The captain of hilarity, the czar of funny, the wacky wonderboy of... holy cow, I'm getting carried away here! I love Thomas Pynchon! He's so fucking good!

Doesn't really matter with Lovecraft. Just pick one that looks interesting and start from there.
