What is the best English translation of Mein Kampf?

If I were to buy a copy from a specific publisher, which copy should I be looking for?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8949704
Why read it in English?
>>
>>8949708
Because I don't speak German.
>>
I know this is a troll thread, BUT

if you are really concerned with biased translations or even translators editing parts of the text, I would probably try to find the oldest translation available of Mein Kampf. If you find a book pre 1940, consider it good.

Would /lit/ like to share their diaries or any excerpts from your diaries?

I'm interested in interesting personal stuff. I'm a voyeur. I'm sure some other anons are interested too.

Fuck you then.

Read my diary then:

Dear diary, fuck /lit/.

"Shut up," I said, still intensely groggy from being woken from a dead sleep. The incessant questions and ever louder whining had become too much. I was finally awake.
"I think I should go."
"Maybe you should."
"Why are you being so mean."
"I'm sorry, I was extremely sleepy and cranky. What I said was rude and disrespectful, and very out of character."
"It was. I should go."
"I don't want you to go, but I really wasn't expecting to be woken up. Why did you wake me up?"
"I didn't know you were asleep."
"I was totally asleep. I'm sorry I told you to shut up."
"It was really mean. I couldn't sleep."
"Well now we are both awake."
"Do you want me to go?"
"I think you are, creative, talented, and cool, and I am very attracted to you, but I don't think we are compatible. You drink way more than I would ever want to and you chain smoke. I try to live healthfully, and this doesn't feel like a good fit at all."
"Why didn't you tell me that before?"
"I didn't know before. Tonight really convinced me. Maybe I'm just slow."
"What."
"Never mind."
"What."
"Should I go?"
"I don't want you to go, but if you ask that question again, my answer will be yes."
"Do you want me to go?"
"Yes."
"Why did you say that?"
"So you will stop asking me that question."
"Why are you being mean?"
"I'm not being mean, but it is clear to me that you want to go."
"I don't want to go." Continues getting dressed. Pulls up Uber on phone.
"Your actions say you want to go. You convinced me that you want to go."
"I wasn't sure."
"I became unsure. The more you asked me, the more it made me question. Now I think you should go."
"I don't want to go."
"Then why did you ask me again, after I told you that?"
"I wasn't thinking."
"That's quite a way to go through life."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry. You have exhausted me."

has anybody read this? what did you think? i just finished it and thought it was pretty good. kinda in the same vein as jr. saw a few of the same companies pop up, familiar names, and a few underpinning ideas that were trying to be expressed. i like the slow build up and how it pretty much just plasters a giant load on you at the end. what the heck is up with mccandless always touching liz's boobs? i felt bad for her, she was the innocent dove of the book but she could not talk to anybody without them groping her, berating her, or asking her for money. and fuck paul and edie! amirite? complete bastards. also fuck that theiving haitian. pretty good struggle between goid and evil with lots a little pieces of deception and screwballs thrown in.
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
also would say that mccandless is the ultimate villain of the book? i mean he had the information and the maps of that land that showed there was nothing there which the others were trying to keep from being leaked so they could send forces there. but he was apathetic to the whole situation and kinda welcomed the destruction that would ensue like he didn't have the power to stop it in his hands. then just selling out to the gaywad lester and fucking off to an island somewhere.wtf
>>
Exhausting, and incredibly cynical. Really don't think there's a single "good" character in the whole novel, Liz included: I got the feeling that the "book" she was writing was just empty plagiarism, a greedy pastiche of ideas unoriginal and scenes relevant little-but-herself (this idea kinda comes into play through McCandless when he says something along the lines of "People think shit is interesting just because it happened to them").

The parts of the novel that aren't dialogue are written in an insanely arcane way; Gaddis seems to hate many, many things, with commas potentially being like in the Top 3 of Things Most Hated.

Like a lot of postmodernism I imagine this work only getting more and more relevant and pertinent with age. Very excited to get into J R.

Some scattered thoughts
>>
>>8949774
yeah, it's weird there is definitely a dualist nature to all of the characters. like a constant struggle and push and pull. you see it where liz says to billy that he reminds her of paul in many ways and you see it with mccandless/lester. different sides of the same coin.

the scenes with paul and liz were very exhausting. i was always happy when he would fuck off on a trip for a few days and dreaded when he came back.

YE OLDE OATES, OF WHAT TEMPT US!

Tis but a silly reason to live long,
Mine oats have tempt-ed me for many years;
And yet these oats still taste the same each day!
Dost not these oats get bored of their bland flavor?
Or do they live to energize us pigs?
With time we shall know what these oats believe,
And they shall once come back to feed our keep!

Brother of mine may I borrow some oats
For my stomach it aches beyond reason.
Prone I have lain, by the donkeys and goats
and I fear I will not last the season.

Cannot you spare me a mouthful of grain?
I am wasting away, while you fatten.
Sick as I am will you lighten my pain?
Just one lick of the gruel you have spat in?

What's the definitive work written by a criminal about their motivations? Manson in his Own Words? The Unabomber Manifesto? Iceberg Slim's Pimp?

What's the most /lit/ autobiographical true crime?

>The Unabomber Manifesto
It does really outline where he is coming from, and what to do about it. Great manifesto. Would reject technology to.
>Iceberg Slim's Pimp
A very different work, and one that is shamefully underdiscussed here. It's a great story, and more like a traditional narrative. It taught me more about The Pimp Game than any other singular source, no doubt.

Iceberg Slim's Pimp?

What does your reading stamina look like? I am reading three different books and sadly I can only manage to read 30 pages in total, then take a break and start again whenever. I'm working on making it better.

i dunno man, i read 600 pages in the last week. and half of the week i was fucking around with my wife.

i can read about ~75 pages on one book per day, then i change topics

one thing that helps me is focus on the story, not on the page, not on the chapter, the faster i want to finish a book the longer it takes

You don't. Oppose globalism, strive for virtue and seek meaning.

Universalism with reference to some absolute, transcendent pole around which to organize seems like it inevitably slides towards what you're trying to avoid.

Come to think of it, maybe Christianity's your answer then.

can someone on /lit/ please help me? i'm a freshman in college studying philosophyand my second semester starts tomorrow. the first semester was very difficult for me and i'm fearful that i'm incapable of doing well and passing in the second.

for some reason, even though i was an avid reader as a child, i'm finding it extremely hard to digest the readings enough to discuss them in class or write about them. even if i read them three times, i have a difficult time remembering much or coming up with anything to say. there are people in my classes who read the reading once, comprehend it, and are able to openly and enthusiastically discuss it in class. even if i read it two or three times, however, nothing comes up in my head in class and i'm not able to clearly articulate my understanding of the text.

am i retarded or something? do i have severe adhd or a visual processing disorder? pls no bully /lit/, this is an honest literature related question on how to improve my reading comprehension.

You might just have some issue with philosophy.
Try taking notes, such as the Cornell method to be able to come up with questions.

Hey /lit/, I had asked a week ago and like a dumbass forgot to write the authors name if I discovered;

My question was:

Stephen king is too flower power, Clive barker is too narnia most of the time, and the only good HP lovecraft stories are short.

Who are hidden horror gems?

I was given one very dark looking author but forgot his name. Thanks guys!

Fiction with dictatorship/resistance not Ya. I want to read something light and enjoyable. Are there any fiction books with the resistance fighting for freedom against super powerful regime plot that are not your typical YA? I don't know how to make a title in the phone app sorry.

The reason dystopian/rebellion stories are so commonly YA is because believing that you can triumph over a dystopia is something only little kids think about.

what are you, some kind of individual? struggling against the organism of society? i suppose people like you are useful in one way or another, sometimes shining brightly enough to pull away the weaklings, letting them wither under your illusory glow, or if you are not even bright enough to be a will o the wisp, you get rid of yourself for us. the organism of society needs you to help keep itself clean. like the birds who pick out pests from an alligator's mouth.

fuckin tripfags.
