Patricianhood is writing off Harper Lee altogether
From what I've noticed, most great writers base parts of their novels off their personal lives. Melville worked on a ship, Tolstoy was nobility and in the military, Dostoevsky was a gambler that went to prison, etc. All these people lived interesting lives or have experienced great events which led to them writing great books.
How does one like myself write something profound when I've lived a dull and boring life compared to these guys? (Early 20s living in America btw) I don't even feel like I'm living in interesting times. Should I pursue "adventure" in this world while I'm still young? I know its a cliche among young people, but do I need to travel the world or something? Join the army?

All your canonical writers had interesting lives?
Shakespeare?
Is there such a thing as boring time in world history? could our era ever qualify?
>>8953945
Nah. Shakespeare did approximately shit all in this life and he's the greatest writer in the English language.

I heard that when he was writing his book hemingway used to read the entire thing up to the point he stopped last time, and continue writing.
It took me almost a month to read the book, how is this possible??
Post books no one over 18 should bother reading.

are you fucking kidding me
I have read the books The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises, now I must write a compare and contrast essay for school about the books. Anybody who've read said novels have any suggestions on what I could relate the two with? Love is a major theme in both but I'm having trouble coming up with a thesis.
Haven't read but bump for interest. Only thing I can say is that maybe you should read from some of the great essayist of all time especially on that theme.

both were read by an OP who is gay
You're either extremely lazy or putting out weird bait.
Anyway, certain obvious commonalities:
Disenchantment with the American Dream
Imagination of potential options being better than their actual fruition
Men fighting over women leading to drama
Strength of male male relationships, especially over female male ones

House of Leaves
Labyrinths
The Bible
The God Delusion
I just finished this.
Very interesting seeing the differences between this and The Crying of Lot 49. I found it a lot less funny and also a lot more disturbing at certain parts.
Overall though I do think I liked it more than The Crying of Lot 49. It was certainly much more moving.
Some questions I was left with at end wereWas V the bad priest? (I went back and re-read and am convinced that she was)
Was she the spirit of Valletta?
What is the relevance of Eigenvalue and Schoenmaker's views on plastic surgery and the teeth in relation to the way V replaces her body parts?
How does her replacing her body parts relate to decadence?
>>8953404
>he thinks V is a specific person
>>8953448
Strictly speaking she's definitely a specific person. Sidney stencil certainly has a relationship with a woman that he refers to as V in the letter that he sent to Herbert.
Of course though, I am aware that V has a broader significance in the book as relating to such disparate references as stories of Venus, the concept of victory, and Vheissu.

Why can't I read more than a few pages of a book before being overcome with drowsiness?
I'm actively imagining or trying to comprehend what I'm reading, but ultimately I fall asleep. Anywhere, anytime.
I used to stay up for an extra hour or two just reading, or sit down after work to read. I can't do either now.
>>8953312
Did you go to a spell of not reading? Then you need to train yourself again. It will come back.
Are you exhausted by being a wageslave? In that case I would suggest some bite sized cable tv that is designed for the working classes.
Television programs are designed to be low information density, easily accessible bites of entertainment for the worker to zone out to while he stuffs down his processed foods before he goes to bed early to rest up for the job.

I need the help of a German fag.
>I'm in the process of writing a historical fiction book.
>It takes place in Nazi Germany during Hitler's reign.
>A 12 year old German boy named Armand and his best friend Deron, who is Jewish, find out that Jews across Germany were being taken.
>In an effort to protect his best friend, Armand makes an agreement with Deron's family that if they are taken, he will protect Deron by hiding him in his home.
>Armand's parents reluctantly agree to the agreement, on the condition that if the German soldiers come looking in the house for Deron, they will not hesitate to turn him in.
The rest of the story is a work in progress
Can I get the help of a German fag to help with German spoken parts of the story, please?

This story is really tired. Scrap it.
Why don't you just write everything in English? All the characters seem to speak German, so just replace all of it with English.
