Let it die. The last thread was embarrassing and you have an ulterior motive with all the woman authors.

We are following the book in OP's post. 3 out of the 20 stories in it are by female authors. As you are not actually participating, and seem to have no plans to participate, I'm afraid I must discount your opinion on the matter.
Is black literature good? What should I start with?

The Invisible Man and the play "Fences."
>>8951589
I read invisible man, it was ok. Is Song of Solomon better? I don't want to waste my time you know.
>>8951590
I liked Fences a lot. Seeing it with James Earl Jones would be cool as fuck
What does /lit/ think of audiobooks
Can they add to the reading experience or are they just for fags too lazy to even read?
It's for the car
for fags who read trash genre fiction, it's absolutely useless for any serious reading
I think it's fine for most things. I wouldn't try to listen to war and peace or anything.
Why are Americans so shit at literature studies?
>Read up university syllabus of English literature degrees
>Postmodernism, postmodernism, and postmodernism
>Feminist theory
>Queer theory
>Asiatic and African comparative literature
>Postcolonialism
>One singular paper on just Shakespeare's tragedies
>Maybe one course on The Canterbury Tales (translated text)
>No mention at all of the metaphysical poets
>Nothing about the other medieval works
>Nothing substantial about Renaissance
>Doesn't even touch upon the Gothic novels
>No mention of the Mystery Plays
>Not even a hint of poesy as a conduit of truth
>Everything is at least modernist or later
>A fucking course on slam poetry and spoken word rubbish

Simple shit, you gotta read to this before you can be considered a man
>>8951280
>you gotta read 200 pages of awful prose to be a man
No
If topical relevance is all it takes to be considered a masterpiece, all those countless god awful politically charged drama shows on Shotime and NBC should be considered masterpieces as well.
It's good. Try out 2084 too, they're kind of related.
>>8951280
what should i read to it?
Are writers the least appreciated of artists?
I feel like the visual arts get much more attention and appreciation because plebs and the pleb state of mind can't be bothered to be too invested in a piece for too long.
How many people will even congratulate you when you've written a piece? A handful at best. Make a painting or a music piece and loads will have noticed it and applauded your talent.
>>8951167
>>8951181
the publishing industry exacerbates this. typically, your run of the mill reader is not trying to learn about or explore themselves but are instead looking for the same kind of entertainment that theyre used to but only through a different medium.
"literary fiction" authors typically have to work day-jobs, with obvious exceptions, while people like e.l. james are obvious hacks but live lives of luxury.
http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/celeb/authors/e-l-james-net-worth/
this shouldnt be surprising. the commodification of culture made this inevitable.
>>8951167
A pretty painting can hang on your wall and give generations joy and pleasure timelessly.
There isnt the same immediacy of beauty with words, I cant hang a description of a landscape on my wall.
Also, language is most accessible, everyone operates and has a grasp of language, and thinks in words, etc, so there is a low entry barrier, where as visual arts requires physically displaying a skillful spiritual movement of heaven and earth
>>8953141
>language is more accessible than the visual
not even close
plenty of people can barely read

irigaray is pretty based and has triggered many feminists and queer theorists, she said that the heterosexual couple is the most creative couple and it really pissed off all of academia. she says shit like "women will never be taken seriously because they think of everything and nothing at the same time"

Hi , /lit/! Future psychiatrist here , I just wanted to ask if there are any good books you've read about psychiatry , non-academic or academic , psychological books to ensure a better understanding of thoughts , etc.
I know this might belong to /wsr/ but I know you guys read a shitload and maybe you can give me some recommendations.

Ah yeah sure. Will remember for next time.
10 little niggers
>Oh no that's offensive
10 little Indians
>Oh fuck, we did it again
And then there were none
Does /lit/ support the idea that literature should fall under automatic artistic protection and that renaming shouldn't take place unless there is a significant content change?
Fun fact: TF1 in France just realised a three part series on the book called "10 little niggers" (Dix Petits Nè€gres) however none of the characters ever said the word "nigger".
>>8950916
I don't really care in this case because it's pretty irrelevant to the plot.
>>8951368
>implying a book whose plot focuses on ten little niggers could be bad in any way, shape, or form and that it should be renamed because the title is relevant to the story
