yo /lit/ches
what are unheard of books/authors that revolve around nihilism other than the usual canon of Sartre, Dost, Camus, and Kafka?
>>9000632
none of those are nihilist
i wish i could cut your head off and eat it
>>9000632
Céline? Start with journey to the end of the night
>>9000727
They all deal with the problem of nihilism, they aren't apologetic for it obviously. Shouldn't reading a post be a requisite to replying to one, anon?
>tfw I never started with the greeks
And I'm currently reading The Great Gatsby. What are you going to do about it?
>>9000607
bet your a women or a nonwhite. And hence i never expected anything else
>>9000608
I'm a white male. What are you going to do about it?
Underage b8
Am I stupid for having some of this go over my head? It's the first "philosophical fiction" I've read and I really enjoyed it but I've had to re read a lot of passages to make sure I had a t least somewhat of an understanding of what was said. I feel like this is supposed to be one of the easier things to absorb but I don't think I fully "get" all of it. Thoughts?
>>9000601
lol you must be a women
Do you think you're particularly smart?
>>9000605
No, I just like to read for pleasure. But also enjoy the feeling of learning new things from what I read I just didn't know if this would be considered difficult for someone with no prior experience with philosophy.
just read the first of these and thought it was really great
what are /lit/'s thoughts on knausgaard?
how do the later books compare? i dunno if anything can beat the climax of this one with all dat cleaning
i guess none of you read this
never mind
>>9000558
Second book is even better, and the best in the series imo.
Third book is shit.
Four is okay. Too much teenage stuff though.
Five is where it gets great again like in 1 and 2.
Six is all over the place but still gives an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the whole series.
Have yet to read anything else by Knausgård.

I know that the concept of mental illness is a spook, it's so obviously just made up bullshit, but yet I still feel a constant need to try and diagnose myself with some sort of psychological problem. Why is this, and are there any good books on this subject?
>>9000539
because youre a hypochondriac who thinks theyre special.
>>9000539
lol so your saying trannies and homosexuals aren't mentally ill?
maybe it's time you tried the redpill, fucking brainwashed 'Foucault is so great xD' cuckolded retard
>>9000544
they're kind of batshit insane but that's not a mental illness, it's a spook concept
Not a foucault fan
Hello! As it is a new year and many of us have been putting off a study of the Greeks, I am starting a SWTG group. It will cover the literature, history, and mythology of ancient Greece.
The group will start this Sunday, January 22.
Digital versions of all reading materials will be provided.
>ebooks
https://mega.nz/#F!tRdWHJYY!_3uUYqfzqIpRpVN2l8XNVw
Required texts. If you want to buy a couple books for this group, these are the ones to get.
>The Iliad
>The Odyssey
>Sarah B. Pomeroy. A Brief History of Ancient Greece: A Political, Social, and Cultural History
>Any edition, and either the full one or the Brief one
Optional texts:
>Edith Hamilton. Mythology
>Stephen Trzaskoma. Anthology Of Classical Myth: Primary Sources in Translation (ACM)
The average daily reading load is about 30 pages. There will be catch-up days throughout, and the pace is subject to change based on the group's whim.
If some of the content doesn't interest you, you are free to skip it. If you don't need a history of Ancient Greece, skip the history bits. If you don't need an introduction to Greek Mythology, skip the readings from Edith Hamilton's Mythology.
Pretty sure I'm being stupid but where can I find Edith Hamilton - mythology online? Don't really want to have to wait weeks for shipping.
And thanks for organising this

Left the mansions of the Night..
>>6948073
The mares that carry me as far as longing can reach
rode on, once they had come and fetched me onto the legendary
road of the divinity that carries the man who knows
through the vast and dark unknown. And on I was carried
as the mares, aware just where to go, kept carrying me
straining at the chariot; and young women led the way.
And the axle in the hubs let out the sound of a pipe
blazing from the pressure of the two well-rounded wheels
at either side, as they rapidly led on: young women, girls,
daughters of the Sun who had left the mansions of Night
for the light and pushed back the veils from their faces
with their hands.
There are the gates of the pathways of Night and Day,
held fast in place between the lintel above and a threshold of stone;
and they reach up into the heavens, filled with gigantic doors.
And the keys—that now open, now lock—are held fast by
Justice: she who always demands exact returns. And with
soft seductive words the girls cunningly persuaded her to
push back immediately, just for them, the bar that bolts
the gates. And as the doors flew open, making the bronze
axles with their pegs and nails spin—now one, now the other—
in their pipes, they created a gaping chasm. Straight through
and on the girls held fast their course for the chariot and horses,
straight down the road
Masters of Dreams
OFTEN WORDS ARE ONLY WORDS. SOMETIMES
they're not: sometimes they have the power
to open up a whole world—to give reality to things that
have always been hovering on the horizon of our consciousness
just out of reach.

So I had to read this book for a college class. Why was Eleanor such a cunt?would you an Eleanor?
>>9000471
>why was a women a cunt?
They are all like that. Try pic related
>>9000471
how was she a cunt?
Have any of you been convinced by this book?
I am reading it right now.
Could anyone recommend similar things to me? I've been told to check out Chesterton and even Peter Hitchens. Are those good recommendations?
>>9000470
>Peter Hitchens
Don't bother. His book is just a big rant, more fitting for a tabloid newspaper column than a book. He is also clearly bitter about his brother's success. He even admits he only 'believes' because he wants it to be true.
>>9000470
>Peter Hitchens
lol
now that herr drumpf is President, what are the best books on organizing and protesting?

What's the best translation of the bible that is still legible in today's English?
>>9000321
Avoid anything written by women
>>9000331
Doesn't this go without saying?
>>9000321
>legible
All of them? Since the invention of the printing press, legibility has ceased to be a problem (so long as the font is adequately large).
Assuming you meant readable, there are a large number of simplified versions. Ultimately though, KJV is best.

Anyone else read this doorstopper? What did you think about it?
>>9000149
It's great
>>9000149
Sometimes I see something so moving I know I’m not supposed to linger. See it and leave. If you stay too long, you wear out the wordless shock. Love it and trust it and leave desu.
>>9000149

Is being 20 years and a 1/2 too late to get into literature?
>>9000126
yes, obviously. Turn on your tv
If you have to ask then yes.
No. Some people don't learn to read until around that age.
