How do you guys feel about this band from a literary (and philosophical) perspective?

I don't think there's a poet, author, painter, or any other artist from any other art form that can represent the 21st century lifestyle as well as these guys.

Sadness, despair, happiness, agony, schizophrenia, love, nostalgia, anxiety. It's all there, blending perfectly towards an accurate representation of myself, and many others.

Discuss.

>tfw you realize that the Christian concept of Grace in the face of suffering the only way to live a truly happy life

Does anyone else think that Christianity is psychologically useful even if it isn't metaphysically true? Any novels that deal with Christian non-believers?

>Any novels that deal with Christian non-believers?
Yes, lots of novels written by pseud hacks conclude with the idea that there's no need for orthodoxy when we can just (as if the whole world is a kindergarten class) "be nice to each other." Smart novelists tend avoid these platitudes because they have respect for religion and a healthy understanding of human nature.

Is there a cannon for internet content? Who have been the great shitposters of History? Where can I read their work? Literature adapted to the printing press, giving birth to the novel. 60 years after gutenberg we had Don Quixote. You would expect things to move a bit faster this time.

good stuff.

don't know what's gonna happen tho

The internet as an information technology is, in fact, too fast for cannonicity as a quality to arise in internet content. The current amount of content is too vast, much more content is uploaded and created everyday than is possible for any individual to process, and indeed the means of access to content are too open for a cannon to be established and curated as it has been with other media.

Hey /lit/,

I feel like I "solved" philosophy. My belief system has only two axioms:

1) One's primary consideration should be their kindness to others

2) One's secondary consideration should be what will bring them the greatest amount of happiness (which comes in different forms, namely short term and lasting).

Using these two axioms and deductive reasoning, there is nothing I haven't been able to "understand" in my head.

Thoughts?

Will be moving out.
About less than 275 books to move out.
How to?

Download them all on your kindle flame (foreshadowing), light all your books on fire (I am assuming you have them all insured) and the apartment, barely making it out alive (of course your kindle has been prepared safely before hand), sue the landlord, at the very least you will get out of last months rent. I am disgusted that I had to tell you this, that I share this board with the likes of an ilk who could not into the divine intuition

That's about how many books I moved with me. Just put them in a few of those tough cardboard boxes they sell specifically for moving and call it a day.

What was Dostoyevsky trying to convey through this Svidrigailov character? The acceptance of death after rejection? Was he the true "extraordinary" man of the story that Raskolinov tried but failed to become?

Svidrigailov's last words to Raskolnikov were something like "I'm going America" and then he killed himself. Since killing yourself is a sin in Christianity and you go to hell if you do that, and he said he was going to America...Dosto didn't even care
>>
>>9006491
He very obviously represents the other part Raskolnikov could have taken, the failure to accept Christ, to live a life without god and to sin and to so destroy yourself.
>>
>>9006491
Raskolnikov, Petrovich, and Svidrigailov are three variations of the same person

Don't worry once Trumps pick for the FCC gets installed he will introduced tiered internet service and it will cost money to tweet, tag, share, like and comment. That will significantly cut down on all the noise.

Reading dubliners at the moment. I'm really enjoying it, however I think it's quite overrated here on /lit/. What is it that people like so much about this novel? I enjoy the characters, and how he fill such short stories with such emotion, but I find there's not enough conflict.

Spoilers obviously. But if anyone here read this book, I think I have a much better ending.

So the normal ending is that he saves JFK, and as a result the world in the present is shit and he basically ruined the world. However, if I wrote the book, I would have made it so that when he went back to the present, it would be a utopia, humanity has finally figured it out and achieved world peace. Basically it would seem like the way that humanity was MEANT to go

I think this kind of ending would be a lot more unnerving, because it would imply that we were THIS close to achieving it. What do you think? The last line would be something like "The world was finally the way it was supposed to be", imp[lying the world we currently live in is wrong.

The point was that in the canon version of the story, the MC has to make a very difficult decision, that is, have JFK be killed.
With your version, it's barely a story at all.
>>
A better ending would've been he is saved from assassination and then dies in an "accidental" plane crash the next day. The Russians are blamed and WWIII starts.
>>
Is there a name for this particular kind of horror? That is, Twilight Zone-like, where it's mostly about the surreal nature of reality? I loved a lot of the motifs, like the past not wanting to be changed, or how the past harmonizes.

Wait, so can aesthetic via prose actually be considered the pinnacle of literature and poetry? How can that hold up on an international stage, where it's likely that an individual can only ever hold real appreciation for his native language, which he has spent years coming to understand the nuances of?

Wouldn't philosophical concepts, the exploration of themes, and the creation of characters, capable of being understood cross-culturally, be the core of what's literary?

Wow OP. This is probably the most philosemitic post I have ever read.
>>
>>9006158
Why can't you spend years learning another language? It's not hard.
>>
>>9006174
Because language is obsolete. One race, one language, one culture, one religion, one philosophy, that's the future.
