Anything by Emil Cioran and Conspiracy against the human race

What reading would you recommend to overcome my hedonistic existence void of meaning?

Alcoholism looms over me like a thick fog, it has trapped me into Self-deprecation through my drive to achieve, and what I occupy myself with ( e.g. genre fiction)

Welcome to the pit, there's no escape besides deep self-analysis, consistent directed behavior, living up to your word, hard stuff like that. Feel free to stay down here with me though.

Actually analyze the books you're reading. Anybody can read Wikipedia summaries, but not everyone can offer genuine insight into the best of literature.
>>
>>9027645

Actually read them

Wikipedia reviews are more in-depth though, and I'm not exaggerating.

I'm almost certain this is you because of the Infinite Jest mention and neurotic aside about the translation of War and Peace he used

I feel like there's not enough time in life to read. I don't mean like, a busy schedule or something. I've had time off from work or school for a couple years no, and I read every single day, but I've been thinking about tackling a book like infinite jest, and just how much time that book would consume. That's an enormous chunk of your life, it would take at least 2 months to read, if not more. Do you ever just stop and think, life is too short to read stuff that's that huge? I wish they would expand life indefinitely so I wouldn't have to worry about things like this.

I enjoy reading good books more than anything else so why would i consider it a waste of time?

I like long books especially because they cover a longer period of your life, making it fun to look back on
>>
>>9027248
>At least two months to read
Is this for reals.
>>
>>9027248

Assuming you read 100 pages per day, you can finish Infinite Jest in like 1.5 week.

Of course, you can read more than that per day, if you're really hooked for instance.

>give up on mason & Dixon and start reading problems of philosophy
>feel cleansed and have hope in the written word renewed after reading around half of it in first sitting

Oh, so THIS is what it's like reading someone who is utterly unpretentious and doesn't serve half baked shit while smugly safe in their knowledge that the critics and pseudointellectuals will automatically praise him due to marketing reasons! I haven't read something worthwhile in almost a fucking year.

It doesn't matter that it's non fiction. I really feel like cleansed is the right word after experiencing turgid shit for so long.

I can feel the fun coming off Pynchon's fingertips as I read Mason and Dixon. I legitimately imagine him sitting there, head tilted back, yelling "ohhh I'm funning".
And classic? Nigga you off it.
