I don't have swords/axes, but I do have an interest in them. But I can't help but feel neckbeardy when I browse for them.

It is only neckbeard to think they are a substitute for a firearm as a weapon.

That depends.
Do you, for any reason, think they have any place on a modern battlefield?

Hey guys I'm an 18 year old and I'm considering enlisting in the army program that lets you go to special forces training after boot camp. I'll be 19 July 13th. I feel emotionally prepared as both parents are dead, mom when I was 7 dad when I was 17, dads death was traumatic because I picked up his dead body, saw blood from his nose shoot out as his head flung back, and set his body on the floor and saw it fall limp like a ragdoll, then felt his sternum bones crack under the pressure of my hands while performing chest compressions. I handled the situation fairly calmly for a 17 year old. I was also sexually and physically abused by an older friend from the age of about 8-10; I don't know if that's really relevant. I guess I'm trying to say is I'm very desensitized at this point. I really do feel like all I need is a year and a half training period, I'll train physically and mentally. Can I get any and all advice /k/?

First off, all that shit you just posted? Never bring it up again. It offers you literally zero advantages.

Secondly, sure, go for it. But don't expect to make it.
>>
You don't have to be desensitized to be SF. Your experience means nothing. Being physically able and mentally strong to keep going even when your body does not is what matters. Having dead parents doesn't put you ahead of the SF game compared to all the guys who do have living ones.

Well how do I better prepare myself to make it instead of just expecting to?

Post them, explain which is your best and why.

Missile Launchers are also acceptable but please no Javs.

Help me gunbeards

I can't decide between a striker or hammer fire. Specifically I'm split between the FNS and FNX. I will be using it for duty carry in armed security. I will likely purchase one in the nest hour. What are the pros and cons of each?

So far the only reason I'm not sold on the striker is because the safety seemed a bit small and it didn't have a second strike capability. The hammer I don't like because the slide/bore axis is pretty big. Any input, even if you call me a retard, is appreciated.

Hey /k/,

Black powder thread.

I am thinking of getting my first handgun and black powder firearm this weekend. A remington 1858 pietta new army at cabelas.

Is this a good choice? Range fudds suggested it to me over colts. (I kinda like 1851 navy.)

I am semi worried about cleaning it since you can't take the barrel off like the colt.

Any advice? Is it hard to maintain?

What should I buy other than .454 balls?

Is 777 powder any good for cap and ball revolvers?

Do I need to take gun completely down every time I clean it for 1858? Or can I scrub barrel and chambers with water and dry it and only clean grip frame every so often?
>>
>>29133359
I have one and haven't shot it with BP and balls yet but have a conversion cylinder for it. I shot a couple cylinders worth of .45 LC(all I had on hand) and it was tits. Having a non-removeable barrel shouldn't be much harder to clean. Cylinder come out semi easily on 1858s(spare loaded ones can be swapped if the caps stay on). I've heard of people cleaning muzzleloaders by pouring hot soapy water down the barrel and scrubbing and drying.
>>
They're a good choice. Said to be stronger than the colts due to top strap on the frame. Cylinders can be swapped withtout having to take the gun apart. And the cylinders have 6 extra notches so the hammer can be lowered on one without worry of discharge from bumpin or jumpin. Cocking the hammer rotates to a chamber. tldr it's a good choice and not any harder to maintain than other bp guns.

I need help. And lots of it.

I've never owned a gun and gone shooting twice in my life. First time was 15 years ago and most recently was this last weekend.

In the past I never had any interest in owning a gun, because of the fact I was never really exposed to them so I was always a little uncomfortable. But I have to say, after this weekend I am really interested in owning one myself.

What I need help with is what is the best gun for my needs?

I live in a safe area so home defense, while an obvious benefit, really isn't a concern of mine. I do a LOT of hiking/backpacking so I would like something to protect me while /out/ but still want something that won't added too much unnecessary weight or be awkward to carry with a large pack on. But I also want something thst is just fun to shoot at the range or on car camping trips

Is there anything that really comes to mind that meets my criteria or would I be better off making multiple purchases. One for when I'm backpacking, and a different one for practice?

These chest rigs are great for /out/ shit. If you are worried about larger predators, a large caliber revolver or a 10mm glock is a pretty good choice. My buddy in alaska loves his rig. He just bought a super redhawk alaskan in .454 casull and it carried that behemoth comfortably and out of the way ehile fishing or backpacking.

What is the point of smaller flat top amphibious assault ships when you could just build more 100,000 ton super carriers?

They cost 4 billion dollars each, they aren't much cheaper than a super carrier. If they were building 30 Fords instead of 11, no doubt they would be quite a bit cheaper.
47 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>29130441
You build more carriers, then you'll need to build more aircraft to fly off of them, then you'll need to train crew to run them, then you'll need to build more escorts to protect them, and then you've got to pay operation costs. It's not as simple as "X amount of money spent on this could have been used to buy Y many of these".

That said, the America was a mistake.
>>
>>29130441
Because the Marines have different needs from the Navy.
>>
>>29130473
Need escorts to protect an amphibious assault ship as well.
Though thats largely doctrinal, if it had its own missiles, its own ASW choppers/planes, it could function adequately on its own.

Foreign influence will be IMMENSE.

For example; if we rebel against the US Federal Government, you can bet your ass that we will start getting Chinese or Russian shipments of QBZ's and CQ's and AK's and RPG's.
