We all know he was a genius in terms of engineering and creating the first nuclear propulsion based submarines, but how was he in terms of his war fighting capabilities? Was he a strategic and tactical genius as well in terms of naval warfare? I know he commanded submarines for a bit. What was Admiral Hyman Rickover like as a warfighter?
Also, general US Navy thread.

if he was a good tactician, you wouldnt be able to know whether or not he was a good tactician. your question provides an inherent catch 22
>>29129161
How is that?
Hey guys, I've gotten into backpacking, and I've been wanting a better option for a rifle to carry with me.
I've been carrying an 870 recently, but it's a bit too awkward keeping in my rifle loops in my pack.
I've been looking at 45-70 guide guns. The barrel size looks perfect and that bullet hits like a truck.
What do you guys carry on over night hunting/back packing trips ?
>>29128827
Just a 9mm pistol. With some CCI snake shot and hunting HP. My hope is it'll just be loud enough to scare off big critters.
SAW
>>29128827
I just use an Sks. Light weight, cheap, easy to maintain.
What should your first gun be? A .22lr semi auto, bolt action, 12 ga shotgun or what?
Mainly for fun.
If it is for fun you have to try out different guns and find out what is the gun you have to most fun with.
>>29128582
Not everyone has that luxury anon.
Mainly for fun go with the 12 gauge. .22 has proven to be a bitch to find when shit gets real in the gun grabbing world. It has way more uses than the others. Plus the kick is satisfying
Will 5.56 NATO be the new currency when SHTF like in Metro?

Thinking about joining the Marine Corps as an MP I've read about recruitment on the website but I'm hoping to get an idea of what the job will actually be like/other servicemen's attitudes to MPs
Standing at the front gate all day in the elements just checking ID'S.
Pros:
>You get taught how to fight someone who has been trained to fight
>Can retire with pension, work as a state cop, retire with pension again, and then work as a cop in another state making pension plus pay
>Cool toys. P90s and shit, the real stuff
>At least in the AF, mps could go to lots of ancillary training. Knew a guy that went to Ranger school among other things
Cons
>you're gonna be hated
>Drunk marines
>scanning IDs all day
>Drunk marines
>>29126489
Fun fact.
MP's also serve as staff at the Brig. So some are chosen as prison guards.
I did 2 days in the brig. I learned something while I was in. Those motherfuckers are locked in and hate life just like we did. Sure they got to leave after their 8 or 12 hour shift. But that's the job, being in prison. They are just the goons in charge and usually bitter and take it out on the the people in the brig.
I was a corporal and if I were to ever meet that PFC shmuckatelli guard that talked shit to me in a dark alley the tables would definitely be turned.
Tomato potato.

There is no cancer killing /k/. We're a wonderful place, and we will continue being great!
i got a question for you fellas.
I'm not one of those THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE types, but i show respect to the old timers we have left from WW2 and Korea, and don't try to salute them or anything. But what i have done in the past, like during memorial day, or veterans day is, give them my American flag morale patches off my hat, my bag or my jacket, when they compliment them at waffle house or out shopping.
does anyone else buy cheap fake maxpedition style glow in the dark, PVC Velcro USA flag patches or similar off of ebay or equivalent, just to have a few on hand for the old timers?
>>29125101
No, but this is cringey enough that old people might actually like it so... Good job OP?
>>29125108
it really is cringey? i just like PVC patches, and love stuff the glows in the dark.
>>29125101
You're a faggot.
Just got this, any good mods?
Grips, springs etc
>>29125064
D spring replacer, Hogue front wrap grips, and 30 round beretta factory mags.
/thread/
>>29125073
30 round? I was going to keep it to 17
>>29125064
They make a guide rod that doubles up as a laser around $400.
Which state has the loosest gun, hiking, and outdoor shooting laws?
>>29124978
Here is Georgia the firearm laws are pretty good. I've gone hiking a couple hundred miles into the AT Trail with a 45. on my hip and a 22. on my pack, And no forest services or Rangers have said anything.
Also its so rural here in the north east part of GA out here that everyone just shoots in the forests, or on their own land and until you hit a city like Gainsville etc. nobody says anything.
I want to go more into the AT trail with full bug-out kit sometime in the future but i'de need at least a week to do so and between scheduling problems with my friends and work i cant find the time~
>>29124978
>loosest gun, hiking, and outdoor shooting laws?
Hopefully this was misread but it sounds like you just want to go tear up a bunch of public land, litter and leave a giant mess to ruin it for other hikers and people trying to /out/.
I'm willing to make that assumption and fuck you.
>>29124978
Alaska.
Alright /k/. Help me choose,
Tokarev:

The mak is $300
pic related
Tok, kevlar won't stop it.
>>29124649
i'd say makarov cuz i like compact pistols
Is j&g sales a good place to buy from? They have romanian toks for $220.
if you were sneaking into a facility or trying to kidnap/takedown someone, would a tranquilizer gun work fast enough on targets so that they don't realize your position and report you before knocking out?
>>29123831
No, better off with a hushpuppy
>>29123831
no, you're a faggot
what if you tased them and shot them with the tranquilizer? like if it was all one gun? that way they are incapacitated and then knocked out.
Looking for an 8 gun safe thats under $450. Currently have 4 long guns and 2 handguns but will definitely get a couple more long guns. Needs space for the handguns and ammo as well, preferably at the top. What say you /K/unts?
>>29123455
you are not going to get anything worth a shit under a few thousand dollars. hide whatever you buy very well
>>29123455
What crossed your mind to think that calling us "/K/unts" was the proper way to ask a question that you could have googled in five seconds? Get the fuck out, and don't come back.
>>29123455
I got a nice safe for 500 bucks
liberty safes
go to a gander mountain or cabellas, look at the safes, dont get the shitty thin ones, go to a different store, look at the safes, decide on keypad or combo, buy a safe from the store
So I would have put this in the AR containment thread but it's normally too austistic there to get a decent reply. I'm looking at getting a Colt LE6920. Talk to LGS guys and it's either "the golden standard" of ARs or its trash. Some guy even went into how their metallurgy is fucked on it somehow. So what's the real skinny on it?
>>29123157
It is the standard, plain and simple. Nothing more, nothing less, unless QC took a hit on the specific rifle you bought, yet again that can happen to anyone of any manufacture.
>>29123179
Then why the clambering for all the snowflake rifles made by some company with a weird rollmark? This will be my first ar15, but it seems to me everybody would sooner suggest noveske or bcm
>>29123157
>is it a bad rifle?
Nope. I mean you have just as much chance of getting a lemon as anyone else, but overall they're pretty good.
>should I buy one?
Nope. You should build your AR. You can build a much nicer one than the Colt for the Colts price.
Thread about non-standard concealment methods for firearms.
>hollow books

Post any and all. Guns for odd concealment, odd places, odd tools. Whatever.
I thought pic related was cool. Not practical for carrying but cool.
