So, what does /k/ think about the F-35? Is it worth the money? Is it good enough to justify all the $$$ that the government is spending on it, when it could be using that same money for things like healthcare, education, and infrastructure? I read that for the price of one F-35, we could buy as many as six F-16's. If that's true then it seems like it would make more sense to just buy more F-16's to have a larger fleet of planes for a lower price.

No modern tactical fighter is worth the asking price these days. The F16 was a fourth the price 30+ years ago

>MK14 (Battle rifle/DMR multi-role, all branches)
>SA80 (L85 and L86 variants for Air Force, special purpose weapon)
>AK-74 (Used by the civil guard)

Machine Guns
>M60 (Base model in the army, E4 in Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force)
>FN Minimi (Small numbers in the Marine Corps)
>FN MAG (Infantry use in the Marine Corps, mounted coaxially on vehicles)

DMR/Sniper rifles
>SR25 (Medium-range DMR, used by the Army and the Navy)
>SVD (Long-range DMR, used by Marine Corps)
>Remington 700 (Standard in all branches)
>Barrett M82 (Used by Navy)
>Barrett M98B (Limited use by Marine Corps)

Shotguns
>Remington 870 MCS (Standard issue)

>RPG-7V2 (Standard issue)
>MK153 SMAW (Limited use by Marine Corps)
>MBT LAW (Experimental use by Air Force)
>SA-18 (Used by the Army)
>DH-5 fragmentation grenade (Local variation of the M67)
>M18 smoke grenade

>M9 Bayonet standard issue bayonet for all branches

Camouflages
>Army uses a local variation of the Finnish M05, some older units use a variation of the Flecktarn pattern
>Marine Corps uses similar digital woodland pattern like the USMC, with a desert and urban variation
>Air force uses more traditional ERDL patterns, both woodland and desert variations
>Navy uses a a blue ERDL pattern while at sea and black & white variation on land
>Special forces share camouflages of the branches they operate with, but use a "chocolate chip" camo

How effective would a railgun be against an aircraft carrier?
64 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
high speed low drag
>>
>>29149572
Prolly a dent. pretty easy fix with a hammer though.
>>
>>29149572

It would punch through the aircraft carrier's fairly thin belt, but you'd need to hit it several times to get it to sink. Carriers are massive, and you'll likely not get a second time to hit them once their aircraft are trained on you.

yes but it would be heavy and not very good at any one thing the original .50cal "sniper" rifles were m2s with scopes thrown on them but you could take a F/A AR15 with a heavy barrel throw a underbarrel shotgun on it and youve got a marksmens ar15 with a shotgun on it that can go full auto

The jets are stored below deck and brought up as needed so the flight deck isnt packed.
