Share conversions if you'd like.
As a side question, which Semi-Automatic does k recommend for conversion? I was originally looking at Taurus and Glock. I didn't like the capacity of 1911 and the Glock is striker. If you are fine with striker that's cool. I personally dislike it. Alternatively, CZ in 45 holds 10 rounds but I've never seen a conversion for it.
just get a 10 mm and be done with it.

Savage axis? Also when I look at academys website they show 5 .308s under 600 so check whatever the names of those are
For a little over $700 you could get a CZ557.
But at your budget the Ruger American Rifle or the Tikka T3 Compact sounds about what you need.
It depends what you're primary use for it is though, hunting, target shooting?
>>31808936
I picked up Howa a few years back, and have really liked it.
Basically a Weatherby Vanguard (their low end gun) with a Hogue stock.
They have easy conversions for 10-round removable mags, and that looks like fun.
This is a general discussion thread for information about Western Volunteers currently engaged in combat operations in the middle east WITHOUT being part of a regular army force.
Pic Related - Its Brandon Glossup, former Canadian navy petty officer, sold his truck and went to Syria.

>How do they get there?
The first thing any western volunteer needs to realize about traveling to any conflict zone is that you will be denied access to the area almost immediately if it becomes apparent you are there to join combat operations.
This isn't a foreign legion, these are autonomous region self defense forces [i.e: Kurd Peshmerga forces] (being used as the tip of the spear) and tribal militia. These organizations are further backed by the Iraqi Government (and by default the standing military forces of Iraq) (Manpower/Armor/Airstrikes/Air Support) and Multinational Coalition forces (Armor/Airstrikes/Air Support/Logisitics/Ammo).
The organizations that accept Western Volunteers typically organize via Social Media, there is a vetting process, and all volunteers are selected based on what value they would bring to that organization.
There is no pay, even small allowances are unheard of, the volunteers buy all of their own weapons and equipment, it hasn't been unheard of that some units donate equipment they don't understand how to use directly to the volunteer in anticipation that they will know how to use it (laser guided sighting equipment, maps, PDAs, long range communications).
ISIS/Daesh currently advertises a bounty of $150,000 USD for any westerners killed inside any conflict area, regardless of occupation or activity.
Most all entry into conflict areas occurs from nearby countries, for example most volunteers going to the Peshmerga leave from Turkey and fly directly into the autonomous regions only airport, there the Peshmerga have control of the customs process and will not deny entry to volunteers they have been communicating with.

Examples of costs incurred:
Flying from NYC to Turkey - $1-2k (depends on flight seating)
Turkey to Eribl, Iraq - $2-500 (depends on flight seating)
-NOTE: Erbil is the international airport for Kurdistan, all interactions here will be overseen by the Kurdistan Autonomous Government, it is remarkably safer in Kurdistan than it is anywhere else in Iraq, INCLUDING the US protected IZ in Baghdad.
Erbil Airport to Sulamaniyah, Iraq (taxi) - $12 and 3 hour highway ride
>Buying arms in Sulamaniyah, Iraq
Sulamaniyah hosts one of the largest outdoor black market bizaars in all of Iraq, it has been rumored in comparison to the Open Arms bizaar in Mogadishu, Somalia and the Open Arms Bizaar 2004-2007 Baghdad.
You'll want a full kit and that will probably take you back $2-5k USD depending on what you purchase.
From here you'll have to find an organization that is willing to take you to your conflict zone and this is where your social media contacts really come in handy, since its super easy for an IS spy to entice you and trick you into going with them into IS controlled area so you can have your head cut off.
Most contractors/volunteers keep about $10k USD in their body armor somewhere, this is your on demand ranson, incase anything happens, offer it to anyone who looks like they have what it takes to get you back to Erbil. No matter what if you can make it back to Erbil, you can find a government office and start working on getting back to your home nation.
Save money for your flight home unless you feel like doing odd jobs in Erbil and keep track of your visas.
How does /k/ like it's coffee?
Also, general everyday carry thread. Post java and weapons of choice for the day, or just weapons.
Personally I like my coffee dark as fuck with hazelnut creamer. No sugar or very little, maybe 1tspn.
Carrying the G43 as usual with the BM Barrage for a slight change of pace.

Hello /k/
In light of recent events, a Habbening is more likely to occur. What weapons do you NEED in case of such event? I know lots of you have a fucking armory in your basement, but realistically you can't carry all of them including the ammo as well. ITT: we will discuss choosing a primary, secondary, and a sidearm. Also state why you would choose such a load out. Pic related.
AR-15 5.56/.223
Pump action 12 gague
Glock 19 9mm
Ammo type for each is plentiful, easy to maintain and find spare parts, weapons are not too heavy or encumbersome.

Military CareerEdit
Acknowledged as one of the finest Servicemen in his lifetime, Fisher was a highly-decorated commissioned officer of the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander (O-4)[7] while serving as an operator within the U.S. Navy's elite SEa-Air-Land (SEAL) Teams, where he participated and led various special operations in the Persian Gulf, Bolivia, Colombia, Senegal, Kosovo and various other hotspots around the world. At some point during his time in the Navy, Sam spent nearly three years (2 years, 11 months) as an intelligence analyst.[7] At one point he was awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal.[7] He was honorably discharged from the Navy at some point during 1996.[17]
You can look this shit up
check his wiki for #1 and for #2, absolutely not

Hey /k/, so I'm having a little bit of an issue. Right now I have a co-worker who was in the Army and claims he was a combat veteran. I am fairly sure he was, but some of his war stories sound pretty strange. He also couldn't remember when he was deployed and whether he was in Afghanistan or Iraq first. What would be a good way to verify this? I've heard of a FOIA request for his DD 214 but I have no familiarity with the process. Would he be informed if I submitted one?
>>31808451
>Anon, how can I get away with Stolen Valor?
Just wear BDUs covered with patches for units you never served in outside of your local airsoft field.
He's lying. Nobody forgets when they got deployed or where. Do you forget where your apartment is? Forget the first time you had sex?
You can't get somebody's dd214 unless you're family IIRC.
Get over it, dude is a liar, now you know, don't trust him, don't bother with him, move on.
>>31808502
>Do you forget where your apartment is?
Yes, too many times.
I don't even remember what I ate for breakfast.
how come you never hear about the vietnamese; the koreans; cambidians; germans durring ww2; terrorist/rebels in afghanistan or iraq or syria; africans; chinese; bonbgo bongo land e.t.c never talking about PTSD or feeling sad? why is it always the americans and maybe the britbongs that get ptsd?
because we let trannies, women, and numales into our armed forces
US military is made of faggots.
Look at them, LOL.
>>31808191
Because those cultures don't talk about it, due to pride or just pure unawareness. War is seen as something that makes you mentally stable and strong, and to admit it fucked you up would bring shame I guess. PTSD in America is rarely talked about as well, just look at the thousands of homeless fucked up veterans.
How come WW2/Korea vets are regarded as bad asses and mentally strong and successful while Vietnam vets are often sterotyped as crazy, unfit and just general fuckups?
>>31808166
americans hate each other in general.
>>31808166
oh I dont know, maybe because it was the first time citizens widely didn't support the war?
Because although Korea was a bust, muricans can still have pride in breaking out of the Pusan perimeter and restablishing worst Korea
In Nam America got cucked by rice farming jungle asians in black pajamas
I'm sure we've all read some of the statistics coming out of the Ukrainian conflict, and the primacy of artillery is pretty obvious. As an infantryman myself I am very keen on mortars and suchlike, but I'm somewhat wary of their safety to be near. With drones and increasingly advanced information systems going around, it seems that conventional artillery is very hard to disguise, and will therefore tend to attract counter-battery fire, either from the air or from enemy artillery. I've spoken to some cloud-punchers who say that they have to pack up and move after like 3 rounds when facing a conventionally armed enemy.
I have been toying with the idea of a weapon designed specifically to provide limited range indirect fire without the enormous thermal blooms and noise created by conventional propellant. Possibly designed just to offer infantry some IDFS in urban areas, possibly designed specifically to counter conventional artillery or AA positions without significant risk of return fire. Something light enough to be mounted on a light truck or APC, with the ability to lob high-explosives a 2-3km with decent accuracy.
How about a ballista type launcher? With a powered windlass the rate of fire would only be slightly less than a conventional piece, and while there would be a cost in terms of range, payload and possibly accuracy I think the idea has potential as a supplementary system.
>>31808152
A Roman style ballista, updated with modern materials, has a max range of about 1km with an aerodynamic bolt, weighing about a pound.
It takes up most of the space in the bed of a pickup.
A 60mm mortar is better. A French 51mm captive-piston mortar, if you're concerned with sound; but sound isn't the primary cueing method.
>>31808179
When you say "Roman style", I'm not sure if you mean mechanically identical, because there may well be a feasible alternative- modern crossbows look pretty different to ancient ones and are a lot more powerful for their size/weight (pic related). My point would be some sort of mechanical energy storage.
I imagined that the noise was a secondary concern, I was thinking more of the hot gas plumes attracting flying eyes, particularly on thermal.
Maybe a robotic trebuchet would offer better range, but would obviously be a bit more finnicky... just spitballing, thanks for the response.

I'm an american living in the uk. I have uk qualifications (GCSEs) and no A levels. I'm 18 and I want nothing but to be a marine. But for that I need a highschool diploma. Do I really need to go back to highschool?

Coming home alive
Na.
It's not really a war in the traditional sense, but NATO (mainly America) "defeating" the Soviet Union was an overall more compelling victory in my eyes simply due to
>The fact that it resulted in the total collapse and destruction of one of the very few true superpowers in human history
and
>Didn't even require an overt war, relying solely on shrewd political dealings, economic sanctions, and relatively minor proxy wars
As for actual victories in wars, I'd say the best would go to the Spaniards who managed completely destroy the Aztec Empire despite initially being outnumbered by over one hundred to one.
