Is 165 grain 45 acp the best option for self defense and cc?
pros:
>low penetration
>low recoil
>travels faster
>same diameter hole (roughly)
cons:
>no exit wound shock
>any barriers or armor will stop it or deflect it.
>reduced range
Alternatively is 147 9mm viable? Does it do more damage or just give the round better penetration. (Yes, I'm aware that handgun knockdown is a meme)
I'm in the market for a new cc. My 38 snub has seen better days. My main concern has always been close encounters and follow up shots.
9mm JHP is better on all accounts
>>31799299
Handgun rounds already suck, don't reduce their effectiveness further with low recoil rounds (less velocity)
I prefer 124gr +P 9mm
>>31799789
Which guns semis can handle +p? I was looking and a lot of companies claim it will void warranty. Not that I care, but it does raise questions about safety.
Disclaimer: Yes, this is a question about people personal opinion on liberty, as it pertains to the right to keep and bear. Yes, it is also weapons related. Fite me.
Like a lot of the Ameri/k/ans on this board, I belief that the real value of our second amendment is as a deterrent to tyranny. A deterrent I hope we never have to use. However, a deterrent is only useful if we have a clear idea when we would use it. Do you think our nuclear arsenal would be an effective deterrent if the official policy regarding its use was, "It's only to scare the enemy into not using theirs. We'd never actually use them."?
That said, I'd like to know some people's opinions on the matter. What constitutes, in each of your opinions, too far for the government to push? None of the sane posters here really want a civil war, and most of us believe it will never happen. I think it's been proven again and again that no government could survive pissing off even 10% of gun owners, but that's not much of a threat if we're willing to stand by and watch our rights get stolen.
So what is your personal line in the sand? What could our government do that would make you rebel, and what would you do about it?
This is primarily for American's, though posters from less free areas of the world are welcome to weigh in on their own definitions of tyranny. I know if I was Australian or British, I would have started a fight long before now.
For me, personally, I think any kinda of blanket ban on an overall class of weapon, enacted by the federal government, by agency fiat or executive order would be my limit. That or any similar attack on the first amendment. At that point, I think I'd call up my friends, gather as many like minded people as possible and petition our state government to secede. When that failed, I'd march on the state capitol.
This isn't where I parked my car.

go to calguns with that and see all the bitches come outta the wood work
am I weird for feeling "bad" when I shoot my old WW2 guns? I'm always hesitant to take out my 1943 M1 carbine for fear of damaging it somehow - for I love her so
pic related
Yes. You are wrong. Shoot it
as long as you are using the way it's meant to be used, and enjoying yourself while you are doing it, you have nothing to feel bad about.
treat it right, show it the love it deserves. you'd probably feel much worse looking at it sitting in the safe rusting away cause you're "afraid" you might break it.
>>31798956
i've got 2 98Ks, a mosin, a SMLE and a carcano, all war relics. i blast away all the time with them, ammo permitting. i feel like i'm part of history.
go be part of history
I'll start with how I learned to fear the police.
>Before I moved to Alabama I used to live in the Chicago suburbs.
>Rink's gun store and range
>trying out new places so I head over
>Get my shit, pay, and get to my Lane
>to my right are three off duty officers
>only knew because they have their badges On The Fucking Table
>tryhardmuch.jpg
>whatever, they seem polite, greet me when I come
>send my target out to 25 next to there's, they're using a full sized silhouette target as expected
>BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG
>straight up sounds like someone just shit their pants and can't stop pulling the trigger
>they're doing holster pulls and mag dumps
>target comes back, applause and congrats all around
>'you got that fucker in the head'
>no way he got all those in the head
>look over
>no shit there are 4 holes in the target
>these guys are using glocks on full sized targets
>9 or 10 rounds just missed and sent into oblivion
>'good job'
And so I learned to fear the autist shit bags with guns
>>31798933
Last range trip
>Arrive at range, head to the pistol line
>Only people there are me and three black males who are conversing at the end of the pistol range
>I start slow firing when all the sudden mag dumping commences from the other side
>"I beat you ya slow motherfucker!"
>Continues another three magazines of literally "racing" to see who can dump faster at the targets that are 7' away
>Targets look they were hit with a shotgun
>They continue this game of blasting away for most of the time I'm there
>Around their stalls there is maybe 1k-2k rounds of steel case 9mm
>Watch as they are packing up and they are shooting a Taurus, Hi-Point, and a S&W SV9.
>>31798933

Which branch are you enlisting/enlisted/considering?
http://strawpoll.me/6764857
Which branch prohibits fist fights? Because that's a branch to avoid.
Which military branch is the most passive aggressive and would be the most likely to use the phrase "toxic masculinity"?
Can you try to be a SEAL if your already in the Navy, or any other branch? I know it's near impossible to change MOS/NOS but if your contract is almost up how easily could you re-enlist with a SEAL contract?
>>31799239
all branches prohibit fistfights you retard. it's in nobody's best interest to let your lower enlisted fuck each other up at will.

do we have the technology to project a HUD into curved bulletproof glass?
http://www.janes.com/article/64911/russian-defence-budget-set-to-drop-by-12
>Russian defence expenditure is set to fall by RUB371 billion (USD6 billion) by 2018 under new spending plans announced by the government. Total spending will fall from RUB3.1 trillion in 2016 to RUB2.728 trillion in 2018, a reduction of 12.0% in nominal terms.
>The new spending plans were outlined in "The basic directions of budgetary policy for 2017 and the planning period of 2018 and 2019", published by the Russian Ministry of Finance (MoF) in October 2016. Based on current projections the expenditure on 'National Defence' will fall by 8.5% in 2017 to RUB2.836 trillion, and a further 3.8% to RUB2.728 trillion in 2017.
So how likely is this to affect future procurement?
>>31798616
>So how likely is this to affect future procurement?
Fleet will suffer.

And so Russia loses the second cold war before it even starts. To the same tactic as last time no less.
Many more nukes. More tanks. Slightly more planes. Less ships.
What's the most expensive gun you own to shoot? Pic semi related.
I guess the 7.62PTR or 308AR, but I don't usually buy premium stuff.
The Model 700 in .30-06 is up there too, but it's a bolt action so I don't buy much.
I don't really have any special snowflake calibres.
My AR15 that's in .300 BLK
Yeah I know I'm getting memed hard whatever
I don't have a suppressor currently and I'm not exactly keen about having a reloading set up in a one bedroom apartment.
I usually spend somewhere between $0.75 and $1.25 per round, depending on what I want to shoot.
My 92FS is like $0.19 a round and my AK74 is still cheap to shoot too, like $0.22 a round.
My ruger 10/22
Putting aside the political justifications of the war, why did the USA take such horrendous losses in Vietnam against the Vietcong/NVA, compared to the relatively minor casualties we've taken in conflicts since?
Was it the technology of the time? Bad US tactics? Conscription? Misuse of helicopter forces?
Enlighten me /k/.
bit of everything ,but jungles are essentially the perfect terrain for guerilla campaigns. Deserts are the worst (since air power anyhow)
US tactics for Iraq were likely pretty heavily affected by what they learned in Vietnam, so I'd say that helped them avoid taking as many casualties.
>>31798584
I'd agree with that, but given that most casualties were inflicted on the US through conventional assets (artillery, close in mass assault, AAA), was the Jungle terrain the thing that allowed for such efficient application of those assets?
>>31798591
What were the primary lessons learned? How are those lessons applied now?
Anything especially bad about this gun? I like the external hammer and the idea of a rotating barrel, but a cursory glance on google says that it can sometimes fail to feed.
>>31798475
Compact variant doesn't have rotating barrel.
>>31800228
That is the subcompact.
>>31798475
Nothing wrong with it other than the lack of red fiber optic sights. They're reliable enough for Ernest Langdon to have 50,000 rounds through his and Chris Baker from Lucky Gunner to have 2 fte's at the 1,500 round mark with no cleaning.
There's good info on that particular gun on pistolforum by Ernest Langdon and Lucky Gunner has a 2 part video review on it on You Tube. I'm getting the PX4 Compact Carry when it comes out in 2 weeks.

>Their buddy had a squib in his KKM barrel.
b8 thread
>>31798471
Something something glocks are terrible regardless, something something that pic of a S&W revolver cut open to show 7 squibs and no bulging even.
>>31799981
1) Aftermarket barrel. Not a factory design, could be a defect. It's interesting that Glock is even offering to help the customer. KKM is definitely on the hook.
2) According to the article, the user shot into a squib, that would blow up most automatics.
3) Revolvers can survive squibs because of the cylinder gap, which will allow excess gas pressure to bleed off behind the bullet if it is obstructed. An automatic can't do that, which is why they are more vulnerable to kB! on a squib.
Thinking about buying a Colt SAA clone for shits and giggles.
Is the Uberti El Patron any good? I don't like the transfer bar on Rugers and real Colts are too damn expensive.
I found one on Gunbroker for about $490. Is that a good deal?
First and last bump
>>31798272
That's a decent deal for one, and Uberti are generally good.
If you want to shoot your gun for cheaper, Ruger makes the Vaquero in .357, so you can shoot cheaper .357 Magnums, and even cheaper .38 Specials, comparing to the higher cost of .45 Colt
>>31799073
I plan on casting my own .45 lead bullets for MAXIMUM AUTISM
Even considering to go black powder loads for AUTISM OVERLOADED Pt. II: REDUX
I have plenty of modern guns, but it's sometimes fun to shoot historical weapons. I don't care for the Ruger Vaquero because it has the transfer bar safety which kinda ruins the immersion.
I've been looking to buy a new jacket and since military-styled jackets are worn everywhere I thought about just also getting one but an original rather, since in most cases they are cheaper and obviously have way better quality.
Does anyone know some shops that also send to europe?
I found kommandostore and keepshooting, however I didn't find anything at kommandostore and keepshooting sadly doesn't ship to europe.
Ordered 4 of these bad boys for myself and a few members of my family for Christmas.
