Any professional animators on /ic/,
How do I get faster? Ive been working at a small studio for about 3 months, 2 months interning and 1 month full time. This is my first job out of college, so theres clearly a lot of on the job learning I'll be doing for the forseeable future. Im a good animator, but Im not all that quick about it. My boss and coworkers say it just takes time, but I feel like there has to be something that can help outside of just the animation I do at work. Anything?

> My boss and coworkers say it just takes time, but I feel like there has to be something that can help outside of just the animation I do at work. Anything?
So you think they are deliberately sabotaging you?
Outside of doing a bunch of stimulants, practice and time developing the skill is how you get faster. You aren't gonna get faster animating by doing something besides animating.
Also I'm not an animator, but this can generally be applied to just about any skill set. You get better and faster by doing it.

good animation takes time
you're obviously good enough for the job or else they wouldn't have hired you
take your time, do it right
question tho, what is your job in the pipeline? are you doing actual keyframes and/or inbetweens, boarding sequences, layouts/backgrounds or any combination of the three?
>>2585609
Yeah youre right, Im just constantly worried im not doing well enough and ill lose the job. I have no reason to think that way based on the feedback Ive gotten but I obsessively worry like this in general. Its usually worse when I care a lot, which I do.
Any tutorials/downloads so I can draw like sakimichan/kronprinz?
Call me shameless but I really want to draw hot bitches

I have a question about self-promotion. Being a classic example of reclusive artist I have no idea how social circles work. Posting art isn't a problem but figuring who to let people notice you is. I don't understand the process or getting from point A to point B. So my question is how can I go around promoting my blog, tumblr, whatever from the obscurity? How to show people you are out there?
Hashtags, submissions, & liking other peoples work.
Make work that is shareable and complete - not just half-assed sketches.
Series of related work are far more shareable than one-off illustrations.
Make work that is funny.
Make work that incorporates pop-culture themes or figures.
Don't make generic fantasy/sci-fi/concept art bullshit that the general population doesn't care about.

Are you sure? Tumblr seems to prefer quantity of completion. Everyone I follow posts half finished sketches, paintings with construction lines still visible, doodles, etc.. I guess because it's a blog, you have to have things to post pretty regularly for people to want to follow you. That's why I hate the tumblr format.
How do you practice your figures drawings? Do you draw each part of the body, like a construction? Or do you work by shades of color?
Doesn't "Building" the body through drawing makes you draw with symbols? For example do the head, but you draw what you feel look like the head.
Isn't it better to work with coloring zones of shadow and light? Coloring instead of drawing, if you know what I mean.
A study shouldn't look like left of pic rel? (I mean with the "look", not the quality of the figure)

The best way is to have something you can apply them for.
Say you want to draw a knight.
You think of an action this knight may be doing. For instance, fighting pose
Then, think of a pov in which you want to show him, at eye level? Low/high eye level?. Say, low eye level
Then you actually start drawing gestures of the pose you have in mind with a low horizon line. I like to do them with a big brush, so I can focus on the 3 major masses(head/ribcage/pelvis)
Then you continue with construction, this could be from just simple shape (spheres/ cylinders/cubes ) to more complex stuff like drawing the skeleton and the muscles on top to finally draw the skin.
This way your figure studies would be focused on a specific pose in a specific pov.
>>2588606
To be honest I'm not able to do all that. I lack the basics of construction, I jumped over steps.
But when you draw a picture? You already have the gesture and the angle. How do you reproduce it?
Speaking of gesture, when you have your horizon lines and your vanishing point, how do you put a character with a gesture into that?

I'm a huge fan of this youtuber, Zoe Hong.

View the rest of her videos. She does things classically, but she's a fashion designer and illustrator second, so the emphasis is lax.
should I finish this or scrap it?
something feels off

Tbh, i don't really care he made a thread.
Only like 20 people one this damn board anyway, anyone at a certain skill level should get a personal thread. fuk it.
>>2588043
There's no real reason to not finish it, even if it isn't looking as good as you want it to look.
You're still in the early stages and you can make corrections. The thing that stands out most to me is the left elbow.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

This is really good. My only critique would be your line confidence seems to be pretty low and none of the lines are smooth. Try these exercises.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, take a nude selfie and send it to your bestie!
