Beginner Thread
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises. Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up.
Do not forget to resize and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

Questions go in the QUESTION THREAD
This is for posting studys & getting critique.
>Thread study: Aaaand, back to animals it is! This one should be rather simplew since its pretty much a front view so there is no tilt to fuck up
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - there are many studies left unreplied, which is bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

most of them look fine for beginner level but the one on the right - you really need to work on the proportions. Good work!

Are Cintiqs worth the price compared to other tablets on the market?
What is a better alternative?
>>2289262
unless you plan on doing a ton of finished digital linework, you are fine just getting an intuos not a cintiq
>>2289266
I have an Intuos right now, but I'm looking for something that I can draw on digitally without having to look up at the screen.
>>2289278
Then get a cintiq if you insist on having a display with your tablet.
The alternative is a Huion for cheaper. Just know that if you get it you're rolling the dice on software headaches.
So, would you recommend this before, or after keys, and why?
I would not recommend it at all
Just looking for some casual discussion/thoughts on my work. Any critique/weak points/advice/thoughts in general I'd love to hear, gental-brutal, doesn't matter. This is my first time actually talking here rather than just lurking so I figure I might as well post my own work.
Very nice to meet you all~!

first off,
actually draw a picture.
that'd be greaaaaat.
imo it's bordering between kinda interesting and generic edgy instagram-tier shit.
Is using a model like pic related considered a crutch?
>>2295117
For learning or practice or whatever? No. If you can't draw a person without a model? Yes.
What this dude says >>2295121
Mannequins can be pretty useful to for figuring out a pose, lighting ref, and junk.
Please don't tell me you are thinking about buying that, OP.
What collection of content is best for a well-rounded concept art portfolio (suitable for an entry level position in the field)?
Any portfolio examples would be greatly appreciated.
>>2295077
Probably something that shows versatility. but also consistency in quality. Show different stages of the design process. 3D is a plus, same with photobashing. But I would be hesitant to only have that. Show you can draw and paint as well.
Probably it is best to focus on just one or two related areas. Maybe environments and assets design. Or characters and weapons design. Or vehicles and props.
I feel many entry level portfolio are too narrow in terms of design. They show all the same design and shape language, all one genre etc.

>. Maybe environments and assets design. Or characters and weapons design. Or vehicles and props.
Thanks for your reply, do you feel these pairs of categories go together best? ie is it better for a character artist to pair with weapons design over environments?

Got a good example of an artist with versatile shape language?
SETUP THREAD
Lets see those art stations.
Im looking for some inspiration as my "workspace", if you can call it that, is seriously uninspiring and makes me want to rip my hair out. I cant draw undisturbed for more than a few minutes as it feels suffocating. Will a smaller sketchpad help?
>pic related
I just have a tiny A2 sized sketchbook.
who comfy here?
>>2294744
where do you draw though? I have no issues with my sketchpad but facing a wall, and the desk being kinda narrow just takes away any inspiration to draw.
is drawing from life really that much better than drawing from photos? why or why not?
I wanted to ask a similar thing: is doing a portrait from life a bad idea if the lighting is not that of a life drawing class / photo quality, when starting out?
>>2293842
Yes, it is. Actually having a model in a three-dimensional space makes a huge difference. Whenever I attand croquis/life-drawing, the methods I use at the computer all dissapear, and I draw in an entirely different way. It may just be me, but I'd say that it's different.
>>2293842
drawing from life is the point of professional study, actually.
what can i fix, how can her legs be drawn? thanks
right leg bent downward at the knee. Make the left leg lay strait out and have the right foot behind the left leg
>>2293726
I would also remove that over hang of grey between the thumb and index finger
Thanks guys for the tips, i'll try something.

I'm not that good , but if you want to paint with no reference at least plan your composition dude, specially the door behind, I think you should erase with a nice gradient and the vision of your audience will be keep in the nigger eaten by the KKK.
Sorry for my broken english, i'm not native of this language.
Post the gems you saved from /ic/ users that inspire you and will probably make it, be it old or new.

How did Akira Toriyama manage to draw such detailed, stylized machines while still maintaining clean lines?
Is there a technique here that im missing other than using basic references and rendering them in his own style? It sounds much easier said than done.

Why are you doing this to me, anon?
If I'd to guess. I'd say they kept drawing like regular, but redraw with a single line, based on the base image

is this okay?
>>2288529
no, and please dont make your own threads, post in the beginner thread where you belong and people might want to help you.
>>2288532
I will not post in the beginner thread on an already slow board, secondly, your typing mannerisms lead me to believe you are unknowledgeable and only are typing generic and unhelpful "critique memes" to blend into the board culture of a board you truly do not belong to.
no offence of course...
>>2288529
Pretty good lol. It reminds me of something youd see in a webcomic O_O
