How to draw armor for begginers ???

lean reflectiveness, rather than looking for tuts on how to paint armor.
ruanjia is not the best example, his armor designs look more like stone or painted metal
>>
There's recently been some dude on Youtube who's been uploading informational videos about 15-16th century armour and demonstrates how he puts it on and how he moves around in it. It's a really good reference for how armour works in 3D space! He also touches on the history of some of the armour he wears and the practical purposes for it all. I feel it's really important it understand how armour really works on the body and why it's made the way it is for people who want to learn how to draw it convincingly, as most people just want to draw cool, yet unpractical, designs.

I need help drawing anime girl faces. Whenever I try it ends up either looking like a androgynousboy (top,) ugly (bottom right,) or not quite (the other two.) I don't know what it is I'm missing, though.

Thoughts?

They're generic and bad but if you're having fun making them keep going and eventually you will begin to suck less so long as you are constantly looking for what you can improve in each piece, do not get involved in working on making somthing "good", just make something better than whatever you made last time.

If you draw lines flat accross the face of a cube in 2 point perspective, how do you know what angles to draw them?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2292797
Horizontal lines you draw on the faces of cubes, granted that you wish them to appear parallel to the horizontal edges should be treated the same way as the edges. The lines to the left of the forefront vertical edge should point to the left vanishing point, the right ones to the right vanishing point. The exact angles are to be determined by the distance between the two points and the placement of the cube between them. If you're looking for an equation to calculate this before putting pencil to paper, you ought to ask a nerdier board.

Howdy, /ic/! My art group and I have been doing this pastime for a bit and I wanted to share.

The premise of the activity is sharing abstract images with your friends and trying to make some sort of a readable composition from them within a set time frame.

Firstly you and a few friends get together on skype/hangout or whatever your preferred chat program is. We prefer hangout as it's easy to share screens and give each other advice while talking about specific areas of a piece. For the second step, each of you should spend the next five or so minutes chopping together an abstract image, aiming to have an interesting range of colors, values and shapes. I advise using lots of scatter brush, warp tool and adjustment layers to give a sense of detail density while still keeping things vague. Once your abstracts are completed they should be handed over to one another so each participant can spend the next hour(or however long you want) attempting to hash out some sort of full image from what they've been given. Keep in mind, the goal isn't to make anything great, nor impress women, or produce content for your failing Patreon. However, it can serve as a fun warm up, get you in the habit of drawing ever day, and I find it's quite useful for discovering the area where you've been struggling the most before you tackle it with more serious work.

In the end, the only rule is that there are no rules. You don't have to use much if any of the abstract you're given. Crop it, adjust colors, warp it, whatever. It's great to share it with your friends, if doing so hurts then you'll only get tougher.

I collected a few of the abstracts we had saved as examples and boosters in case anyone's interested. If you happen to this up you're more than welcome to post your results in this thread.

>tl;dr Draw random shit, make your friends draw over it, have a laugh and work on something serious.

FYI believe this idea was taken from elsewhere, I wouldn't want to take credit.

Whenever im starting with a new painting im excited and enthousiastic for the first few sessions, and time seems to fly.
But then i suddenly get so depressed and dissapointed i dont want to continue anymore and i feel hopeless.
why is this? How do people keep working on the same painting for a long time with the same initial enthousiasm?

force of habit. if it's not a habit you're not an artist.
>>

I work on several paintings at once and alternate between them so they feel fresh each time I return to them rather than feel like something I am bored of working on.

Alternatively you can try to get into more of a zen mode where you don't think about how long it is taking or anything and you just focus entirely on the process and enjoying it. Or do the opposite and put on a podcast while you mindlessly render it to completion.
>>
I take it you rarely finish anything?

You paint until you hit a road block, then think "if only my perspective was better; I should work on that instead" or "if only my anatomy was better; I should work on that instead". And you practice these things but when it's time to work on another piece you hit a roadblock again, not realizing that what you're refusing to practice is how to finish a piece.

I'm looking to change careers (because my current one is driving me to alcoholism), and I struck upon tattoo artist. I've looked at the requirements for the license, what it takes to get an apprenticeship, and all that good stuff. One little problem though. I can't draw. I can't freehand a straight fucking line, much less a skull with a dagger through it and a snake coming out of the sockets.

I've looked at the sticky, and of course getting good at just about any kind of drawing will be helpful. But is there certain techniques, styles, and subject matter I should focus on while I go through the basics? For instance, on the upside-down exercise, instead of trying to emulate Picasso's Igor Stravinsky, I did one of Sailor Jerry's hula girls (my sense of proportion is fucking shit. She came out an Amazon).

What pieces, and how many, should I include in a portfolio when looking to apprentice with someone?

And most helpful of all, how do I forget this crazy bullshit and just stick it out in my stable government job without putting my gun in my mouth?

theraphy. focus on making small projects, flashes, with classic tattoo symbols or stuff that you lke. Draw and you'll see. I think steady line is very important.
>>
>>2290663
>I think steady line is very important.
To this end, instead of doing the usual graphite and colored pencils, should I work with pens?
>>
>>2290689
You would be best with doing your research on google as I am not a pro, or just ask some artists. As of sketching and colouring I think you can use anything you like. Mate uses watercolours lately (tubes), there is lots of artists who use markers like copics. But my mate mostly did inking with fineliners or a dip pen (tattoo machine works in a way like dip pen, cause you need to dip it in ink). Plus when doing outline you do it with a steady line, and that's easily to get by some fineliner. Just have fun with it, try what you like, and research. Take care mate and good luck.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun.

Rule of thumb: if you have to actively look for it, you'll never be motivated.
Motivation is not something you learn or something you make a habit of. You either have it or not.

It's the thing people mistakenly call "talent".
