Lamy safari is good fountain pen if you are on budget or want a pen you can carry around everywhere and not worrying it gets stolen or something. If you want to spend around $100 you have a lot more of options. I don't have much experience but I believe Pilot pens should be pretty good. Even Glenn Vilppu has one. I have Parker Sonnet with gold plated nib - if you are looking for Parkers get one with 18k gold nib, it writes smoother. If you have +$500 it's going to be Montblanc, but that pen will last your whole life time. It might sound expensive but it's not really more expensive than a brand new smartphone so I don't think it's bad investment.

You'll also have to chooce your ink carefully - I clogged my lamy safari bad using wrong ink (dip pen ink). I was able to rescue it tho. Also when I bought my Parker Sonnet ($100 pen) brand new it was skipping some letters, like every tenth or so. I disassembled the pen, carefully rinsed the nib and feed. It started working perfectly after that. So sometimes you have to tinker with those a little bit.

I have no idea of good mechanical pencils but I have used Daler & Rowney hardcover sketchbook as journal / commonplace book.

I was looking at that Lamy pen, and since this is my first fountain pen, I think I'll go with that.

>You'll also have to chooce your ink carefully - I clogged my lamy safari bad using wrong ink (dip pen ink)
I'll keep this in mind, thanks.

Anyone got any of the 'real action poses' books as pdf?

It's easy to find a page here and there but trying to find the actual full thing(s) seems freaking impossibru.

Post your current drawing here and give constructive critique to others!

Please make sure your posted image is clear, downsized to around 1000 pixels wide, rotated to the correct orientation, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one.

Here's the thing without text for actual critique. Ref here: http://movie-screencaps.com/star-trek-darkness-2013/36/
I had sort of an idea of an expression I wanted to do but didn't find a ref that really matched, so I took this ref to see if I could make the image I pictured using it as a basis, so the painting and the reference don't match exactly. Still a wip but I think it's coming along alright.

Is cheating using the Camera Lucida tecnique to "create" a drawing?

There is no such thing as cheating, unless you outright steal from other people's work. But there are other reasons why using the CL may not be the best idea. Would you mind posting one or two of your drawings? We'll be nice.

If it looks good it looks good, end of story. Do what you want, though don't intentionally mislead people on what you are doing because they will lash back at you if you do.

As I am, knowing less than next to nothing about value studies (specifically of people), this is all I can do.

In regards to digital, what is a good program to use? Because SAI is... bad, so far. I am bad at this, but I'd like to improve. Do I need to study light and shadow, still lives, portraiture, or anything like that?
>>
>>2286121
Charcoal.

Copy the bottom of https://courses.byui.edu/art110_new/art110/week06/images/values.jpg 5-10x a day until you can confidently/easily reproduce it from memory. Then move to http://www.artistsnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/5-landscape-value-scale.jpg 5-10x a day. Seriously, copy it 5-10x EVERY DAY and get it exact.

So now you can reproduce values, now you need to observe them. Copy Bargue plates. Block in value shapes (5 levels) one at a time working your way from dark to light. Get them exact, then fill in the gradation.

>>2286151
Oh, and use soft and medium compressed charcoal on white strathmore or canson sketch paper, not printer paper (it doesn't havd enough tooth)

>can´t draw from imagination anymore

>my attempts and drawing stylized or imaginated figures fail miserably
>all my drawings nowdays are lifeless studies from life OR a constructed picture made from combining various references together
>watch people like kjg spontaneously drawing and feel bad
>show people my sketchbooks, they say my past drawings used to be more interesting than the ones now, despite having a lot of errors
>lie down and cry

tl;dr after months of studying from reference I can't draw from imagination anymore, wat to do?

Serious issue here. I´m having a very bad time criticising myself for this. Where did I go wrong? How can I improve my imagination and constructed drawing skills? What types of excercises are optimal to resolve this problem?

Pic is a study from life.

drawing from imagination is an overrated skill on /ic/. "Visual libraries" don't make you a better artist. That's just fancy words for symbol drawing.

More useful skills would be being able to copy a photograph, being able to draw from life realistically, and being able to write cohesive concepts for your personal work.

So other than not mentioning practicing writing I would say you are on the right track. But practice writing.

With the appearance of Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting series on twitch reaching +200k views peak it might have inspider many people who have not had any experience with are or abbandoned it at some point in their lives.

I myself used to sketch alot of portraits but for some reason I haven't touched the pencil in over 5 years.

Last week, during the marathon I fell sick and I happend to rewatch almost all of the show. The overall positivity and ease in which he hosted these shows striked me greatly and I've finally decided to renew my love in art once again.

Are any of you guys familiar with Bob Ross' technique? Do you have any recomendations on how to get the oil paints for a good price in Europe (Poland specificly)? Would you recomend starting off with a small canvas to get used to everything? I have no idea of indicating a "good" paint from a crappy one? Are the Bob Ross' oil paints sold on Amazon ok?

I think I have too many small influences. I see art I really like all the time and I don't know which direction I want to go. It's only really happened a couple times, but each time I settle on some artist I want to be more like, soon after I start wondering "But do I really wanna be like this guy? This guy over here has really cool stuff too..." I've never been able to make an influence map because of it, and have no sense of style or direction in my own work, I hate it.
