I took this art course thinking I would be pushed to get better at drawing. However it was assessment week and Ive been so busy I havent drawn a thing. Now it's over and I can't be bothered to draw, however I'm going to force myself to.

arts hard and progress is slow. i'm glad I'm out of that intense honeymoon phase though of the first few months where I felt like I needed to practice every waking hour I wasn't at work and am falling into a routine and starting the slow but not obsessive burn. (I don't want to be a pro.)

I can't wrap my head around color. I've been pushing my drawing and that's going great but every time I throw color into it, it's like babby's first scribble. It seriously makes me want to give up. The other thing is I can't fucking finish anything. I have all these half cocked sketches and things, mostly because I can't color so they go nowhere. I kind of don't know how I thought I could get work, even in months.

It is a lie spread by filthy casual who don't care about using inferior device. Unless you're the "idea" guy and only thing you need is sketchbook

I have a bamboo from wacom and while it works great I don't like how frictionless it is. When you draw with a pen or pencil there's a little bit of friction that I'm used to while guiding my pen. With the tablet it's just gliding on it. Any tips or trick?

Tempera is very different from oils so probably won't help you transition very well.

Also the tempera used by old masters is very different from that of today.

I don't think many people use tempera other than the cheap shit when kids in kindergarden play.

You can make your own egg tempera but it's a difficult medium because it dries so quickly.

Don't even bother, go outside and sketch people in their natural environment. Sports games, transit cafes anywhere really.

Fucking can't even use photo refs anymore, I can reproduce from them but making a piece contain life is a ton harder.

Why do you think this would be any better? It's all people knowing they're being photographed or photographing themselves, there's nothing natural about it.

I do get sick of a lot of reference images looking stiff and posed, though. Or are just in really impractical, stupid poses to begin with. I get it when you're trying to learn anatomy these can be useful but they're shit as references for anything else. I notice this most when I'm trying to find fighting poses, all of them are complete garbage.

The Huion is fine, what you get for the extra you're paying for Wacom it's nowhere near worth it. Wacom is literally the Apple of tablets at this point.

All you need to study is joints. I'm serious. That makes or breaks the believability of mech designs. Assuming you are at a level where balancing the weight is not an issue for you anymore. Because if you draw a T-rex mech with a gigantic cockpit popping out forward, but no counterweight it will look so awfully wrong.
