Any other examples of charismatic, rich men becoming champions of the people and defeating the ruling elite against all odds?

Was Socrates put to death because people couldn't take a joke?
He made himself a political threat and it cost them nothing to kill him. The typical ruler of the time would do it in a heartbeat.

Yeah but was it he himself or Aristophanes' popular theatrical depiction of him?

Discuss Satan. Worship Satan. Blaspheme.
What is Satanism?
>Satanism is a religious philosophy where one shows admiration and/or worship to an archetype/entity know as Satan.
Is Satanism EVIL?
>Yes.
What is LaVey Satanism?
>LaVey Satanism is a form of Satanism founded by Anton Szandor LaVey where on worships themselves rather than submission to an external diety which is seen as a sign of intellectual weakness. Fundamental individualism plays a crucial role as one must find his/her own self in life and reject heard conformity.
What is Diabolatry?
>Also known as Theistic Satanism, Diabolatry is a form of Satanism which recconizes Satan as an actual entity as described in judiam, christianity, and islam or in some abstract interpretation. Diabolatry has no centralization, dogma, or anything of the sort.
What is Setianism?
>The Temple of Set is an occult initiatory order founded in 1975 by Michael Aquino, a high-ranking member of Anton LaVey's Church of Satan. Aquino resigned and embarked on a ritual to invoke Satan, who revealed to him a sacred text called The Book of Coming Forth by Night. In this work Satan revealed his true name to be Set, which had been the name used by his followers in ancient Egypt.
What is Demonolatry?
>A term originally used by witch hunters during the inquisition, Demonolatry is the worship of Demons. Demons here are only seen as forms of energy with Satan being the source of them all thus some demonators see the term "demon worship" as incorrect.
What is Luciferianism?
>Luciferianism is an esoteric religous thought which centers around the diety know as Lucifer. Followers tend to look for enlightenment in life seeing Lucifer as a principle of said enlightenment. Little more can be said as there is no centralization, dogma, etc.
What is The Satanic Temple?
>SJW LARPing.
Why Satanism?
https://encyclopediasatanica.wordpress.com/why-satanism/
If Satan is real, and you believe in him, all you would end up doing is getting yourself a first class ticket to burning in hell for all eternity.
Why the fuck would you want that?

What do the turks consider themselves as today? do they still consider themselves the inheritors of the Roman Empire? or have they culturally shifted due to being isolated in anatolia?
>>1959483
>still
the turks never considered thmselves inheritors of rome. mehmed II *claimed* to be the continuation of rome, that's it.
>>1959483
I was going to answer you but your pic makes this thread look like a shitpost/bait thread.
Also this isn't really /his/ related maybe you would have more luck in /int/.
Going by today's Turkey, calling yourself Roman would probably lead to being called an infedel and getting wrecked.
Is it looked down upon to buy historical artifacts, or seen as a middle class or pseud bourgeois attempt at coming closer to history or intellectualism?
I've been a collector of lithographs for sometime but i've been thinking about wasting more money on things like 19th century shields, obscure (aka cheap) dutch painters, armor, weapons etc.
I'm curious to know your guyses take on it as I'm on a spending spree to fill up the empty time/space in my life and want to see opinions on it.
Nothing wrong with wanting to be in touch with your past, especially if it brings you great joy and it's something aesthetic that you can display. I have a few old coins myself, mostly late 1800's to early 1900's but a few Roman ones too nothing too rare or expensive.
>>1959474
Yes on one of the few threads where people showed off their artifacts I saw quite a few coin collectors, you might've posted in one of them.
I guess I was curious on possible pitfalls concerning it or things to be weary about in general. I do enjoy the items in question, there's no doubt my money can be put to better causes as well, but it's definitely an infinite money sink and aside from bad taste on ones part you really can't go too wrong.
thanks.
>>1959487
If you feel it's a problem, maybe limit yourself to one particular type of artifact?
At what point did the ministries of war became ministries of defence and why?
>>1959269
Probably after WW2 as a way to appear more well meaning after the largest and most costly conflict in human history,
Ministry of War (war time)
Ministry of Defense (peace time)
Simple as that. Don't be dumb. Not everything in the world is le Orwellian mindfuck xD
>>1959313
So is it called the Ministry of Defense now since British warplanes are in Syria? And did they call it that during the Iraq War?

I've been interested in classical antiquity for a while now and every chance I get when i'm not working, going to school, and ect. I sit down and watch some videos, read some books, and what not about the period.
I've been really curious about the Punic wars in general. So tell me /his/ what you know.
>inb4 Romans based, Carthage was a meme, Qart-Hadasht cucked, muh polybian legions.
Any cool interesting facts or what have you about the 1st Punic war.
>>1958397
Basically a huge stalemate on Sicily, Romans had vastly superior land armies, while Carthage used mainly mercenaries. Carthage played defensive, and their fleet kept their cities supplied, preventing Roman conquest. Over the course of the war, Romans slowly build up naval dominance and make their way across Sicily; after capturing Lilybaeum, the war is concluded.
A few highlights:
>Romans develops the corvus, a sweet naval boarding device
>Basically the end of elephant warfare, as while they are used with great success in the beginning of the war, Metellus figures out that elephants are more trouble than they're worth for the Carthaginians
>Romans actually have an army land in Africa, although it is too weak to take Carthage, and is crushed by an army led by a Spartan mercenary general
>Pulcher, a Roman admiral, received a bad omen for battle involving holy chickens, which refused to eat. He threw them into the sea, remarking "let them drink." His fleet was promptly wrecked by the Carthaginians
>>1958607
I remember the chicken thing from when I was a kid.
>>1958607
Its worth mentioning that the Romans supposedly built an entire navy with little to no maritime military experience based on a Punic shipwreck.
