What happened here during the Second World War?
I feel like the Balkan theatre in general is often overlooked.
An absolute shitload of partisans.
Also, the Croats taking advantage of the Final Solution to help put an end to the Serb problem.
Unfortunately, they didn't get enough of them.

Yugoslavia started out as a pro-German monarchy. Then the army, maybe with British instigation/aid I don't remember, launched a coup. Germany and the Axis come knocking in and take over Yugoslavia. After that it was a mess of partisans and fascists which was all very bloody.

Did the Soviet Union have class distinctions after the 20s? Was wealth hereditary or entirely determined by merit? How would a Soviet individual rise socially?
How did Soviet leaders justify living in palaces?
>>1957117
Absolutely, the difference was class and money was determined by family history and loyalty to the regime rather than money. If your uncle was Lenin you were always going to live well but if you were a lowly worker who's grandpappy supported the whites you would be constantly shit on no matter what you as an individual did and could never rise. If you tried to run as a politician there'd be something dug up about how your second cousin twice removed once tore up a propaganda poster and you'd be disparaged forever more because of it.
Ironically the regime that overthrew the hereditary Tsars was more hereditary and classist than ever before.

What did Buddhism add that Hinduism didn't already cover?
>>1955346
It basically said the atman (soul) isn't real.
Hinduism came after buddhism. It offered education and systemic morals relatively free of class or creed. It later diverged into several special groups; theraveda and mahayana went east while vedanta merged with vedism and local idol worship to form the basis of modern hinduism.

I was thinking today. The enlightenment was never meant to be democratic. It works best with an enlightened despot. Democracy is basically the war of all against all for scarce resources, and analogous to the rule of the passions in the individual.

I suspect they were mostly a scattering of different groups existing owing to some technical advance coupled with weak coastal defenses and moderate wealth. As someone who is not versed in Catholicism, can someone a explain me in simple terms what's up with Pope Francis and the Cardinals?
Traditions of man > Traditions of god (the bible)

>what's up with Pope Francis and the Cardinals
Well it's complicated because the cardinals elected him. They vote for the new pope, so it's not like they universally don't like him.
However to all except ultra-liberals he's crossed the line too many times with the leftist statements and actions, by this point it's obvious he's a globalist shill. He's basically the worst pope post-Vatican II, which means he's one of the worst in the history of the church, in terms of heresies, pushing the boundary for no good reason (leftist church's have empty pews).
>>1962238
Pope Francis wrong an annoying and ambiguous document, the cardinals are asking him what he means.
Why didn't the Europeans take his side? Like I that he's heretical and everything but Christian heresy is still not as bad as pagan non-belief isn't it? Would Hong Xiuquan less willing to work with outsiders than the Quing?
>>1961989
Heresy is worse than paganism, didn't you play Crusader Kings?
More seriously it's the reason Germans hated Jews and allied with the Japanese.

they(british, french, and americans) sent some boats up the yangtze to talk to him after he had taking nanjing. what they found was him as absolutely batshit crazy and their sweeping reforms of chinese society threatened their commerical and financial interests in the area. eventually decided the qing would make a more reliable partner in this regard. furthermore the taiping position was never especially secure in a military sense.
all this said, the europeans did initially view him as a great potential partner and thought a christian chinese dynasty would be the answer to their dreams. among the problems listed above, the taiping were just SO far out there in terms of theology and just could not be reconciled with.
as to hong xiuquan, he eagerly sought an alliance with the europeans and thought they would make great partners as christian brothers. their world views however were starkly different, and there wasn't much common ground to be found between them.

>As I did not consider that I could take responsibility, during the years of struggle, of contracting a marriage, I have now decided, before the closing of my earthly career, to take as my wife that girl who, after many years of faithful friendship, entered, of her own free will, the practically besieged town in order to share her destiny with me. >Japanese slaves are believed to be the first of their nation to end up in Europe, and the Portuguese purchased large amounts of Japanese slave girls to bring to Portugal for sexual purposes, as noted by the Church in 1555. King Sebastian feared that it was having a negative effect on Catholic proselytization since the slave trade in Japanese was growing to massive proportions, so he commanded that it be banned in 1571.
