Nothing wrong with wanting to be in touch with your past, especially if it brings you great joy and it's something aesthetic that you can display. I have a few old coins myself, mostly late 1800's to early 1900's but a few Roman ones too nothing too rare or expensive.

Yes on one of the few threads where people showed off their artifacts I saw quite a few coin collectors, you might've posted in one of them.

I guess I was curious on possible pitfalls concerning it or things to be weary about in general. I do enjoy the items in question, there's no doubt my money can be put to better causes as well, but it's definitely an infinite money sink and aside from bad taste on ones part you really can't go too wrong.

Usually I don't but I was curious as I don't know anyone else who buys these things if my room would start looking gaudy or tacky with all different types of artifacts in my room. I wanted to hear from other possible collectors or a consensus on it. Also i'd never want to be a nouveau bourgeoisie type.

It's a nice hobby, there are lots of collectors fairs and things you can go to to shop for them as well. I wouldn't worry about what people think, think how you'd feel I'd you went round someone else's house who had that collection, you'd think it was neat. My advice is only buy things you'll actually want to display, buying things just to shove them in your attic is silly

Not at all, you can even collect historic artifacts for a relativily small cost. I myself approximatly paid the price of an Ipad for my collection consisting of Western and Indian silver coins.
