Hey /his/, new guy here!

I've been so conflicted with Christianity after growing up in a Christian household with Christian parents. I stopped going to church halfway through high school and once I came to college, I started going again. A lot of the Bible doesn't make sense to me and neither does the history of it. Can you help explain to me whether the religion makes sense historically or not?

For example, things such as the Ark of the Covenant or the Great Flood or Ten Commandments with Moses, are all of these things even possible? How can God himself inscribe markings on stone tablets if he wasn't even a physical person at the time (once Jesus enters the scene)? How can a virgin give birth to a son; that's literally physically impossible? Why did it take such a long time for Christianity to enter the scene of a major world power (Byzantine Empire by Constantine) compared to other religions? And why of all religions would it overtake Judaism; wouldn't Judaism make more sense in the grand scheme of things... why would Christianity break off and then suddenly become more popular? Why have the miracles stopped in the modern era? This isn't a joke, but would it be possible that aliens are our God and they really existed at some point but they abandoned us? Why do people blindly follow the religion nowadays even though they only know the very very basic staples of the religion? How do you even gain faith in such a thing if you don't understand the religion? Why would Christianity of all religions be the one that randomly springs up when the world already had religions at the time that made sense to everybody? Is the Bible just a list of guidelines of how to live your life, rather than a book of history?

Why does every Christian that I ask just say "stop using common sense/logic and just believe"? I'm super conflicted with it and nothing is making sense to me, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

tl;dr Is Christianity historically possible?

Cant tell if bait or not. but anyway...

The old testament is bogus in my opinion.

Jesus tells us to throw away old teachings.
"Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved"

Logically, no. But God is Omnipotent, unlike Jesus.

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18)

"...I cast out devils by the Spirit of God then the kingdom of God is come unto you." (Matthew 12:28)

"I can of mine own self do nothing " (John 5:30)

"I with the finger of God cast out devils" (Luke 1 1:20)

The people in the past arrogant. So God give to his prophets miracles so that it is easier for the people to accept what the prophets preach.

>marking tablet
God can do everything

>why do people blindly follow religion
Because they were raised that way

>aliens are our god
I don't worship weak 'gods'

>>2143667
The Bible does have contradiction, just like you said. I'm just gonna add some in your argument. Jesus said in Matthew 5:17;

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

This clearly stated that Jesus come to fulfill the law of Moses. But what you said contradict the said verse.
>>
>>2143764
I think Jesus came to fulfill the Law of Moses, that is to say, he came to fulfill Justice, not abolish it.

As for the rest of what he said, perhaps it is the case that his words were exaggerated by Jewish disciples

The failure of their system to keep pace with the western world.

Hence why they were a menace in the 50s and a joke by the 80s.

They have such enormous egos that we couldn't expect them to contribute to the defense against the communists even a little if the other allies didn't baby them through everything and pretend that they were still useful.

>Frederick had despised Polish people since his youth, and numerous statements are known in which he expressed anti-Polish prejudice,[54] calling Polish society "stupid" and stating that "all these people with surnames ending with -ski, deserve only contempt"[55] He passionately hated everything associated with Poland, while justifying his hatred and territorial expansion with ideas of Enlightenment.[56] He described Poles as "slovenly Polish trash";[57][58] referring to them in a letter from 1735 as "dirty" and "vile apes",[59] and compared the Polish peasants to American Indians.[60]

What - in your opinion - works better for the Church: modernism or traditionalism?
/thread
38 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
If the church took a hard-line traditional stance it would probably slowly lose popularity and, while never completely dying out, become totally irrelevant. Sort of like how there's still Zoroastrians, but society completely passed them by.

I imagine the future of the catholic church will play out much like the church of England. More of a cultural institution with the god question being the least important.

>Leaving the text aside, the images fill in a missing gap: capitalism’s breadlines are bad because what they offer is impersonal, “cookie cutter,” and lacking in flavor, tradition, nature, and even nutrition. Food isn’t food. The bread on the capitalist breadline is filled with ingredients that do us harm.

>“Tradition” here means humanity, an elevation of the person. Recipes were handed down over generations. Mothers taught daughters to cook, fathers taught sons to fish, hunt, defend himself, his family, and so on. It is community. You eat bread with those you love. With bread made in a kiln you can taste the grain, the soil, and the fire. It feeds the soul, not just the stomach (which is why it is still sold in the more expensive bakeries in large cities, even though cheap bread is available on every corner, virtually.)

Is it true, /his/? Nothing beats freshly made bread.

But, imagine if you had to do everything by yourself. If you are not qualified at everything, many of your essential belongings would be terrible, like the roofing, the plumbing, your clothing, the shape of the screws used to assemble your heating unit... And if you tried acquiring the practical knowledge to do all of these things right, it would take a lifetime of back-breaking work. Did I mention agriculture and medicine ?
