Was Napoloen overrated /b/?
Why wasn't he able to stop Hitler when he invaded France? What would you have done if you were in his place?
>>2138862
it was because of June Shannon i think
>>2138862
Napoleon was dead by the time Hitler came around, Anon.
It was his significantly less gifted son, Napoleon III, who was in charge of France at the time.
>you were born too late to get assimilated into Persian culture
>you were born a Persian that was born too late for your people's great Empire and looks too dark to get assimilated into the European culture you admire so much

That's white enough for Southern Europe.
>how do you want your ancient religion and advanced culture and technology senpai?
Was the British Raj good or bad for India? How would it have compared to rule by other European powers in India?
Russia should have been rule over India. Shame that Sasha decided to backstab Nappy.
It was good for Britain, global trade and industrialization
Bad for Indian people.
Don't listen to delusional contrarians who'll say life in British India was perfect and beautiful and British rule was 100% benevolent. It wasn't.
The British do deserve credit for having the better standards in colonial africa, though.

I like the purple color and he likes green, so which is moral?
Moral is based value, and value is based on personal likes and interests. It can not ever be totally objective, otherwise it can't be called "moral", it'll be only a set of rules.
People following the so-called "God's moral" are in fact only following the moral of somebody else, and it doesnt come from their heart.
Who can define value anyway? Only intellectual beings like us can define value and "meaning" based on our own opinions and needs, and yes we can sometimes reach a high consensus, but we can never say moral can be objective. Otherwise, we'll all be living in machine.
Checkmate theists.
How can truth ever be objective?
I know the euclidean geometry and he knows non-euclidean one, so which is true?
Truth is based value, and value is based on personal understanding and knowledge. It can not ever be totally objective, otherwise it can't be called "truth", it'll be only a set of rules.
People following the so-called "formal logic" are in fact only following the truth of somebody else, and it doesnt come from their mind.
Who can define truth anyway? Only intellectual beings like us can define value and "meaning" based on our own opinions and needs, and yes we can sometimes reach a high consensus, but we can never say truth can be objective. Otherwise, we'll all be living in machine.

You're basically explaining informally what I call the Nietzche-Stirner critique of morality. Basically that all moral systems and tables of value rest on certain axioms, and therefore have no validity unless you accept their axioms, and that there is no way to judge value-systems against each other except by recourse to a value-system. There is a potential, though no definitive solution to this problem.
>There are certain values that are implicit in consciousness itself [in other words, it is impossible for an intelligent being to NOT hold these values, so to speak of value systems outside its range becomes a nonsense]. From there all value-systems can be judged by their efficiency in fulfilling these fundamental axiomatic values implicit in the nature of mind. I don't know what values those would be though, since it seems almost any value is potentially invalidated or ignored. Maybe something like "craving" or "desire for becoming", but its all speculation.

You're a faggot who didn't even understand the question.
At what point did we decide music should be mass-produced garbage?
I'll let you know when that happens, OP
>>2138599
in europe, somewhere around the 1400eds, or before
Remember when music was good?

Freedom of speech. Harmful idea, necessary evil or the core of european civilization?

Haram desu.

There should be freedom of speech, but no guarantee of freedom after speech.

If you think people are so stupid that they literally can't help but side with whoever runs the most ads, why let them vote at all?
Would Grond work irl?
Where would you find the Trolls to pull the chain let alone create clouds to darken the sky so they don't turn to stone?
>>2138476
IIRC Normal trolls turn to stone in the sunlight, ones used by the orcs were Olog-hai, basically Trolls bred for war that didn't turn to stone and had other characteristics that were better suited to warfare.
>>2138424
The mouth is hollow IIRC to hold that fire, so if there as a well-built gate with a portcullus behind it and/or other reinforcements, the front of the ram could shatter before the gate. And that fire wouldn't do anything to the gate, and would weaken the front of the ram more as it burned. So my bet would be that Grond would break before the gate it's ramming.
What does "Yeshu" mean?
>>2138419
It's short for "Yehoshua", or Joshua in English. It would mean "God is salvation".
>>2138419
Nothing but it is probably an acronym that commemorates the Jew's colossal rump ravaging over Jesus Christ. You see, the Hebrew name "Yeshua" means "savior" and the Jews don't like calling Jesus this name so they started referring to Him as "Yeshu" because
>According to the Babylonian Talmud (Sanhedrin 43a) the name is generally believed to be an acronym for י = Yimaḥ ש = Shĕmo ו = Wezikhro = meaning, May his name and memory be stricken out.[2]

Would I have been killed in the following time periods if I had gone walking out with my bf and performed very obvious signs of romantic/sexual affection, such as kissing/making out, holding hands, hugging, and more? What would have been the general reaction from the public?
>Classical Greece (Athens)
>Hellenistic Greece (Athens)
>Imperial Rome (Principate)
>Imperial Rome (Dominate, under Constantine)
>Byzantium (10th century)
>Medieval Europe
>Reformation-era >H>R>E
>>2138253
Death, yeah. Unless you were the king or a royal relative. If the king tolerated your behavior, like Louis XIV with his gay brother, then you would have been free to get fucked in the ass in the middle of the city square and no one would have done anything.
>>2138296
>Death, yeah
So, what is more likely: that a mob would come and kill us extra-judicially on the spot, or would they go fetch the authorities, who would in turn arrest us (and execute us)?
I'm curious about Homosex in Sub-Saharan Africa's past. I'm reading a book that gave a run down of sociology among West African natives. It speaks of courting, mating, bundling, but no mention of gay sexuality. Sure it may have been rare, but I expected the writer to bring it up. Was it condemned? Glorified? Because the phallic worship among some those people is pretty damn Gay. If you worship the imagery of a cock, what's stopping you from sucking? I know the Nyam Nyam practiced a mentor fucking Apprentice type thing.
Was its extreme diversity one of the reasons that lead to the Roman Empire's downfall? How?
No.
It's a miracle how Roman Empire survived for so long when there were so many reasons for their collapse.
>>2138251
In a way you can say it was a factor. The increasing localness of the Empire was important.
why did germany in world war ll get the technological edge in many departments during much of the war?
>>2138010
they had good education and were hard pressed to innovate as they were constantly surrounded
centralized power structure and war time economy helped
>>2138022
>German "education"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Physik
>>2138025
this do not invalidate the fact germany produced a score of engineers and scientists and had mass educational programs, that in turn produced people capable of designing and producing one of the best weapons of the war
What makes some history boring?
Why do some people find history boring?
If you were to write a historical book, how would you prevent it from being boring?
A lack of relatable or larger than life people, events, or drama.
It isn't presented to them well during primary education or their lives and other interests preclude them from devoloping any reading that strays from contemporary listings if they're given to reading at all.
Exaggerate human interest elements and write as it as if it were a protagonist driven novel set for a future cable TV show.
Probably based on Robert Guiscard.
I find Antiquity and pre-History boring because I cannot relate to its people and its political entities. Their state of mind was so different than mine that I find we might as well be from different species. I relate a bit more the people of the Middle Ages, and even more so of the Renaissance, the Modern Times, the Enlightenment, and so on...
I feel like even if I could have a conversation with someone from the Ancient times, we would not understand each other because our worlds and minds are too far apart.
>>2138873
Same here. I find pre-modern history interesting but can't engage with it the same way I can post-French Revolution history.
25 years ago, on this day, the Union Socialist Soviet Republic, also known as the U.S.S.R, collapsed. Ending 69 years of communist rule in Russia and other Eastern Bloc states and countries.
In this thread, we discuss what the Soviets achieved, what they failed, and why they collapsed. What could they have done right? What could they have fixed? What impact did it give to former Soviet states like Ukraine, Latvia, or Moldova?

It was 74 years you idiot, 1991-1917= ur retarded.
