I understand that historians hate it when the middle ages are called "the dark ages" because that term seems to denote a time of anti-intellectualism and loss of culture, but why exactly did art become so bad after the fall of the Western Roman Empire? Is it not because of loss of culture?
Byzantine style sucks so much in comparison to classical Roman and Renaissance style.

Its not "conservative". Most conservative parties on the planet do not oppose large government or support free market. They want big government to preserve traditions and culture with an economy that services the nation instead of the other way around.
They are closer to liberal but that isn't it either. Classical liberalism holds social liberal values and isn't interventionist, opposite of being socially conservative and projecting military across the globe.

The will to keep on existing. As noted in another thread the objective truth of the universe is nihilism. If nothing we ever do matters then why bother? A sense that we are achieving something and part of something greater is necessary to avoid the philosophical ramifications of a purely objectivist view of the cosmos.

I know it's depressing, unhelpful, and edgy but nihilism is truth isn't it.
I have been thinking about it for a while now and all I have done is figure out how people previously avoided and found the depressing end of thought in scientific based reasoning. We exist to struggle so we can create children who then also struggle. I'm going through Petersons lectures but he essentially dismisses it as unhelpful.
I haven't found anyone who can dispute nihilism. Has anyone?
