It pressured the Ottomans to concentrate their forces there which gave us a great advantage in the Middle Eastern Operations among other things. Also who won the war anyway?

considering the Romans conquered the Greeks, who were using the same tactics I'm gonna go with no
>>
>>2269437
what tactics did Rome employ that were radically different from the Greeks?
>>
The Romans themselves, being massive Greekaboos, thought they would give Alexander a hard time and bleed him, but he'd end up conquering Rome.

I'd say post-Marian reforms, Rome would win quite handily in this situation. The Roman Empire would stomp Macedonia.

he had an unfortunate tendency to duel, and lose

always thought it was funny that they put the provision of the constitution that says you have to have been born in the territory that became the US or be living there when the constitution was ratified to be president, simply to keep him from running

Shouldn't have thrown away his shot

I liked him after the 2008 series "John Adams", due to how shamelessly they treated him and how everyone hated him.

However because of the stupid musical I hate him now, and are backing Jefferson due to how shitty the Puerto Rican guy depicted him in his school play.

The Crusades are such a massive and broad topic, where do I even begin to understand them?

What should I study and in what order? This includes individual figures, specific Crusades (what was the most important Crusade???), etc.

Thank you

>>
Christopher Tyerman's "God's War" is one of the best books about the Crusades in general but if you want something more specific try "The First Crusaders" by Riley-Smith for a start. They're both excellent books.
>>
First Crusade is the most important, Thomas Asbridge (I think) wrote a good entry-level book on it
>>
>>2269272
tldr: Arabs won.

>first crusade succeeds in catching a bunch of feuding turkic fiefdoms off guard
>second crusade tries to take damascus, fails miserably
>arabs unite under salahuddin and kick crusader ass at hattin, retake jerusalem
>third crusade fails cause german king drowns in a river and the remaining crusaders depart due to petty political dispute (same reason the turkroaches were caught off guard in first crusade)
>fourth crusade doesn't even reach palestine, instead somehow ends up attacking constantinople, lol
>fifth, sixth, seventh, crusades are all spectacular failures. French try to invade Egypt and Tunisia, their king gets captured and ransomed (a french tradition) and the rest of their army either dies of disease or flees.

tldr: Arabs won.

WHAT IS JERUSALEM WORTH?

You now realize the Silent Generation never existed.

Think: If red states are still so insistent on voter suppression, just how bad must it have been then?
>>
>>2269212
Those people were "members" of the silent generation in that they were born to the generation. They weren't participating members of the silent majority which is why 3 out of 5 were killed and the other 2 weren't taken seriously by anyone but a vocal minority.

>>2269402
Demanding identification isn't voter suppression, Comrade. The only way it can be considered voter suppression is by suppressing the votes of people who can't legally fucking vote.
>>
>>2269411
i agree with you, but making people jump through hoops to get voter id cards (instead of just letting people use any government issue id) to combat nonexistent voter fraud is absolutely nonsense.

That inflation might have saved gold as a currency though.
Europe was increasingly short of precious metals with a disfavorable trade balance with the east.
Until Spain found and broke the american piggy bank that is.

Are the English a revolutionary people? They threw off the king under Cromwell, but he acted much as a king and society did not fundamentally change. England was also very important in the development of socialism, yet the influence of the far left has is much weaker than on the continent.

What accounts for this?

>England was also very important in the development of socialism, yet the influence of the far left has is much weaker than on the continent.
I never really got this either. I read the other day that England is the world leader in right-wing and conservative movements, yet it seems like a receptive country for immingrants and good on social policies. Also, it's one of the few countries in the world to have a strong and active labour party,
Can somebody explain this, please?
>>
>>2269066

homosexuality, without a doubt.
>>
>>2269066
The Labour party isn't really socialist. I mean right now Corbyn's trying to make it full on communist, but the only time its ever won support to rule was when it was practically a right-wing party. Its why thanks to Corbyn you won't see Labour in power for maybe the next decade.

Do you believe God has intervened in history, /his/?

Yes; especially when the forces of Catholicism win, like at the Frigidus or Lepanto.

But not when the Catholics lose, like the 2nd Crusade, or the 30 Year's War

Ive heard very little in regards to 'after death' stuff in regards to Judaism.

There is no after-life
>>
>>2268814

At least in modern Judaism, there's not a whole lot of consensus other than agreement that there is some kind of afterlife. The usual Rabbinic view is that one should be obeying God because it is the objectively right thing to do, not out of hope of reward or fear of punishment, and that knowing too much about what will happen to you after death can corrupt your motives.
>>
As far as ancient history goes, I'm pretty sure Jews have always believed in an afterlife. Sheol existed as far back as the historical books of the Bible (don't think it was mentioned in the pentateuch / torah). The Sadducees probably came the closest in denying the afterlife as they denied the existence of spirits, and it seems kind of weird to believe the afterlife but not spirits. Coincidentally, the Pharisees were the first group to really bring into focus the afterlife in any meaningful way, to the levels Christians often bring into focus Heaven.
