Several "ressetlements" of various ethnics.

>muh if their criticism is valid it is a-ok

The tankie/slav is defending hypocrisy. I am not surprised.

If your criticism is supposed to have anymore value you should at least strive to be better than the one subjected to your criticism.

Would have been pretty ridiciolus if the Nazis started whining about racial inequality in America.

I always thought eurocentric meant viewing other places through the same lens one views European history.

However some people seem to think it means just a focus on Europe compared to other places.

Which is it? I have a problem with the first but less of a problem with the second, so I just want to get my terms straight.

Its the latter. It means viewing Europe as more important than other places.

It's looking at things from a European viewpoint. It's absolutely sensical for a European. I don't care how the non-Whites want to go about history.

To my understanding, the Royal Navy was the strongest in the world by far. Why would the British create a ship that would render the rest of their navy completely impotent? What prompted this development, and how did this decision influence the war?

>>
>>2269551
>Why would the British create a ship that would render the rest of their navy completely impotent?

Because it made every other major power's navies equally impotent. It also ruined WWI by making the Brits and the Germans too afraid of losing their battleships to use them in actual combat outside of long range snorefests like Jutland. Thank goodness the Nazis and Japs were absolute madmen.
>>
>>2269573
Thanks for the respone, the only thing I don't understand is why they felt the need to reset their lead from having hundreds of competitive ships more than their rivals to only having one powerhouse of a ship? Didn't it make more sense to retain their lead in naval forces rather than close the gap with new technologies?
>>
>>2269578
Because from 1890s to 1914 saw Naval technology changed at an incredibly fast pace, but until the Japo-Russian War the naval brass had no idea what would actually win in a pitched battle between two equally matched navies. The British built the Dreadnought because it might have given them the upper hand against the school of naval warfare that believed that large ships would be made obsolete by fast moving torpedo boats which would make a blockade impossible.
Then after the Japanese torpedo boats performed worse than expected in 1905 while their standard fleet destroyed the Russians at Tsushima and around Port Arthur, the British found they had backed the right horse. Either way was better than sitting around and doing nothing while everyone around you, especially Germany, was building up a cutting edge-navy.

>The British expedition to Tibet, also known as the British invasion of Tibet or the Younghusband expedition to Tibet began in December 1903 and lasted until September 1904. The expedition was effectively a temporary invasion by British Indian forces under the auspices of the Tibet Frontier Commission, whose purported mission was to establish diplomatic relations and resolve the dispute over the border between Tibet and Sikkim.

The seven years war of 1756-63 had begun in skirmishes with the French in America. France was expanding from Canada south down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, threatening to encircle the 13 New England colonies along the east coast. In India, the collapse of the Mogul empire enabled a French general, Joseph Dupleix, to capture Madras from the British East India Company and thus control most of South India. With rich possessions in the Caribbean, France was set on Europe's greatest global empire.

In 1758, British units in America returned to the Ohio valley, where French lines were cut and the principal fort, Duquesne, captured and renamed Pittsburgh after the British statesman, William Pitt. The following year, General James Wolfe advanced up the St Lawrence and seized the French colony of Quebec, scaling the adjacent cliffs, known as the Heights of Abraham, reputedly reciting Gray's Elegy as he climbed. French posts in the Caribbean were also captured. Horace Walpole remarked of 1759 that "our bells are worn threadbare ringing for victories".

>The Ethiopian coup d'état of 1928 was an attempt by supporters of Empress Zewditu to rid her of the heir apparent and Crown Prince, Ras Tafari Makonnen. With Tafari gone, Zewditu would be the sole ruler of the Ethiopian Empire (Mangista Ityop'p'ya).
>When confronted by Tafari and a company of troops, the ringleaders of the coup took refuge on the palace grounds in Menilek's mausoleum. Tafari and his men surrounded them only to be surrounded themselves by the personal guard of Zewditu. More of Tafari's khaki clad soldiers arrived and surrounded Zewditu's guard. Tafari's soldiers were equipped with newly imported rifles, machine guns, small cannon, and an obsolete but menacing tank. The tank, a Fiat 3000, had been a gift to Empress Zewditu from the Duke of Abruzzi of Italy during a visit some years earlier.

Hey fellas,
I have a 20 page research essay to write on the history of [something] of a non western origin, from between 1900 and 1940.
Do any of you have any favorite events in history fitting this criteria?
I was thinking maybe of the succession of Panama or something about bananas.

shame 1940 is the cutoff because I would say that the vietnamese war of independence would be a great topic since it had so many different phases to talk about that were all extremely different from one another.

Did you know that Ho Chi Minh actually petitioned for Vietnamese independence from France at Versailles all the way back in 1919, citing the principle of self determination. He was ignored of course. Then during ww2 the USA actually helped found the lineal ancestor of the Viet Cong as a partisan group to fight the Japanese. Then when the French attempted to reassert control after running away from the Japs the viet partisans turned their guns on them. When the French came back Ho Chi Minh actually asked US president Truman to intervene and get France to back down (see pic) which he quite unfortunately refused, considering France was an important NATO ally. It was only after this refusal of support that the Viets turned to the soviets and chinese for help. After kicking out the french and the americans the chinese invaded vietnam as well, all three were soundly beaten back and Vietnam remained independent. Truly an incredible story.
