Imagine your society gets flooded with rapefugees and collapses. All the artists, since their are leftards, instead of running for their lives stayed behind holding signs of rapefugees welcome, and got rated and killed. Now you are a monk entrusted with the task of preserving knowledge of civilization in books, but you also want to make illustrations to make the books look nicer, and because you're bored. The problem is that you skipped arts class... This is the result.

Meanwhile Christian mobs regularly killed philosophers and artists suspected of being pagan. Then they wanted to practice their faith in peace.

Yup, Germany suffered from lack of fats so they decided to make it from corpses.

But they had a bright moment and decided it might not be exactely a very good idea so they stopped it after the initial experiments.

Can we talk about Western European medieval military organization? Namely: how the fuck is it done?

Judging from period art, it seems everyone just forms up on ad-hoc formations decided on the spot.

Not to mention what is the deal with all those coat of arms? Shouldnt they just form units around individual lords & commanders instead? From period art it seems that the men that the lords bring gets mixed up with other men so you have a riot of Coats of Arms on shields in a single unit alone.

How, how did this shit work?

Medieval armies are literally organized in this manner.
>You.
>You and your given income must furnish me- the King- men for wars.
>I dunno what kind of units you'll bring, just dump em in the main army when imma muster my forces.
>>
Did medieval armies have ranks, like corporals sergeants captains etc
>>
>>2423331
>Namely: how the fuck is it done?
Haphazardly. Quite often armies would just form up in one big block and charge.

However, that isn't to say that medieval armies never had any organisation. On the level of the entire army, the line would often be split into three 'battles', i.e. left, centre and right, each under their own commander. On a unit to unit level, there were no rules for units because it depended entirely how many men each lord or knight brought. Generally I assume every basic soldier would try to stick with the lord who brought him, although in the chaos of fighting it would be easy to get mingled with the rest of the troops in the same 'battle'.

>Shouldnt they just form units around individual lords & commanders instead?
you would get many different lords fighting in the same 'battle'. Some lords would have only brought a few dozen men, others would have brought a few hundred. There might be dozens of different lords in the same army, each with contingents of completely different sizes, so obviously it wouldn't be useful to have all those units operating independently of each other. As I said, there would be three main units (battles), and there might be a vanguard as well, and the diverse forces that made up the average medieval army would be clumped into one of these.

As for ranks, the term 'sergeant' originally just meant a professional common soldier, but I imagine it got its current meaning because in a situation where a lot of semi-skilled peasants were fighting the professionals would get put in charge of the rabble.

As for how this worked on the battlefield: your contingent, led by your lord, would get put in a 'battle'. You'd be able to see the standard of the 'battles' commander. Basically all you have to do is stick as close to that standard as you can as it advances, and clobber any of the enemy that come within reach. It's not a complicated business, at least not the way that medieval generals usually fought their wars.

Why do Dutch praise Canada so much for its effort in liberation of their country when they completely ignore British, American and Polish part in liberation of Netherlands?

Weak bait, but I'll bite.

It's because the Canadians were the ones that actually followed through on the liberation. While most of the British and American armies were pushing further into Germany, the Canadian & Polish armies continued to find ways across the rivers.

There's actually pictures and old videos of Canadian tanks driving through my town during the liberation.

not a bait, I was just curious, and I think Canadians deserve their recognition, but also others deserve too. My grandfather's brother actually died in battle of Breda

Reading through his books and debates on Napoleon, and mentally replacing the french context with WW2 german one... why isn't this guy a neo-nazi again?

Every time he voices an opinion in any of his works, he is defending Napoleon and the french regime at the time in a way that can very easily be used to defend Hitler and the natsoc regime during WW2.

How come nobody calls him out on this, in fucking Britain especially?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.

Because the Napoleonic regime is over 200 years old.

In 200 years, normal academics will defend Hitler and Nazism without facing a backlash
>>
Napoleon was also left wing so it's acceptable to defend him

>Documents submitted by Suzuki at the same meeting suggested that, in the diplomatic overtures to the USSR, Japan adopt the following approach:

>"It should be clearly made known to Russia that she owes her victory over Germany to Japan, since we remained neutral, and that it would be to the advantage of the Soviets to help Japan maintain her international position, since they have the United States as an enemy in the future."

Can someone help me identify to whom those flags belong to?

I assume one of those flags is Templar or maybe from Genoa?

Mostly variants of crusader states flags such aa kingdom of jerusalem, knights hospitaller, antioch.
>>
Gold cross on white is the Kingdom of Jersualem. True fact, it's one of the one of the only accepted breaches of the heraldic rule of tincture. Jerusalem's considered so holy that normal rules don't apply.

Per pale Sable and Argent is the Templars. Argent a cross Sable is the Teutonic Order. Other banners are either ones I don't recognize or generic Christian banners

Those spikes and shit are a great way for someone to knock the shield off your arm rather than simply dull a blow. Using a shield as a weapon is a last-ditch move, not nearly as effective as a sword, axe or spear.

hi,

I'm not nativ to this board and I hope I don't offend anyone but here we go.

I'm working on a project about superficial knowledge and would like your help with it.

I want to build some sort of digital dioaramas depicting important historical ( or fantastical, as in scenes from lord of the rings) events that I know not really much about.

In fact I don't really know all that much about history except for standart german higher education.

could you describe historical events for me ?
you can describe them as subjectiv as you like and be as vague and metaphoricaly as you want. the more detail you can put in there without having me really understand the scene, the better.

A wild man comes out of the wilderness and looks something like this except dressed in furs and hides.

He talks to a Roman and appears friendly and later removes his garb and adopts civilized manners and clothing, yet still seems gangly and out of place in them.

He encourages the Roman and his legions to follow him back into the wilderness as friends and allies to bring civilization to his people, then as they are marching in a long line in the deep dark forest they are set upon by many other men like the wild man.

In the last scene the wild man is sitting looking at his dead Roman friend with a plain emotionless expression on his face

ok, try this one on for size

imagine a motley crowd of people amidst roman ruins, broken columns and such, all in varying tribal garb, bizarre headdresses, furs and hides, impractical and ill fitting , some of them fighting, some don't look very well, some toiling with work which doesn't seem all that useful due to their bad tools and poor technique, others idle and just gawping at the sky. from the west comes a noble looking fellow and with him are knights and foot soldiers, priests and scholars with books, merchants with handicrafts, clearly coming to benevolently teach them what he has learned

to his horror they start grabbing at his cloak, throwing his tools about and eating pages of his books, one of the crowd comes at him with a club

unsheathing his sword he decapitates this one and the group recognizing his strength start bowing before him while some hastily put on the new clothes and pick up the tools, hammers and chisels

the noble then leaves, but as soon as his back is turned they turn on each other, a ploughshare is used as an impromptu sword, the hammer and chisel is used to chisel another man's skull, one of the crowd adorns a torn piece of cape as though he is now the roman emperor, another holds up a muddy torn bible wearing a dear's head with the mouth agape like the parting at the top of a mitre as though he is now the pope

I've seen it described as when a man explains something to a woman "derisively." Which includes when a man explains something a woman doesn't know to her.
If you don't know something, and I explain it to you, it's "mansplaining?" I say call male teachers are "manteaching." Or women teachers are "womanteaching."
It's a stupid word used by stupid people to disregard anything a man says just because he's a man saying it.

Meaning is what you find purposeful, its what you want in life, something to strive for or live out. Nhilism literally contradicts itself because its retarded belief is meaningless in its own view so why believe it aye lmao.
