According to a BBC documentary on The crusades (literally named BBC ''The Crusades'' for anybody interested) they mention that there are two possibilities to the aftermath of this siege.

a. Unlike the first siege of Jerusalem in which a massacre of non christians occurred, Saladin didn't respond the same way once he had taken the city. Instead of a slaughter, he granted a peaceful take over.

Some other info suggest that there was some sort of truce between the commanders of the city (Balian and Heraclius) to avoid any bloodshed, guaranteeing the christians, nobles, etc, safe passage to crusader lands.

This last bits are filled with remarkable facts about Saladins personality and, if true, it speaks of a very merciful nature.

b. It was nothing more than a fabricated fiction by his secretary. And what happened next was a slaughter that could parallel that which occurred back during the first siege of Jerusalem in 1099.

So what happened? Are those things that are said about Saladin true / how true are they?

No. Saladin was actually looking forward to slaughtering all christians in Jerusalem. During the siege christians asked a number of times for terms of surrender and Saladin refused each time, because if they'd surrender, he wouldn't have a reason to slaughter civilians as punishment.
But eventually christians vowed to destroy every muslim holy place in Jerusalem before they die, and it was only then that Saladin was forced to agree to terms of surrender. People would be allowed to leave if they pay heavy ransom, those who can't afford to pay would be enslaved. He was hoping that the nobles would just pay and leave, leaving those who couldn't afford to pay to their fate. But instead, Balian and many other nobles spent almost all their money to pay ransom for their people.
I don't know where the myth of Saladin being merciful comes from. He must have had an awesome PR manager. After all, he is a man who had hundreds of Templars and Hospitallers executed after the battle of Hattin, after they laid down their weapons. Basically commiting a war crime.
The BBC documentary you mentioned along with many others has a tendency to portray christians as evil savages and muslims as noble, civilized people, because of political corectness. God forbid if the audience would realize that the christians could be the victims. I mean christians are always the villains, right? Right?

There are too many parallels with this guy to ignore. The King Arthur legend is an embellished fragmented version of his story before the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.

Rather like how the Iliad was an embellished fragmented version of the invasion of Troy before the bronze age collapse and the romance of three kingdoms is an embellished account of the fall of Han.

Modern society is cosmopolitan and bland and people are losing a sense of identity and place and thus WE WUZ is an attempt to ground themselves in something and perhaps inspire the desire to do something more than play vidya and smoke weed.

Is it true that in Sumer and later Mesopotamia, the economy was based on a centralized redistribution system centered on the temples? That the city folk would bring in their products and in turn receive other things they needed?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2423945
Temples were often centers of commerce in the ancient world, so I don't see why not - though when you go that far back things no doubt get fuzzy, so while I doubt we really know the particulars, it parallels more recent activity that is part of historical record.
>>
>>2423978
it just seems a little random. Say you bring in 50 clay jars, how would that compare to your demands for heads of cattle or barley or something

There is no end all for armor. What you should wear depends entirely on the situation you face and the opponent you're up against.

Aesthetically, it's brilliant looking though.

How was Italy's industrial output in WW2?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>2423491

Low.
>>
>>2423491

Not bad at all, actually. The Italian Fascists loved technology and were at the forefront of industrialisation. They started from near nothing but by WW2 they had sizeable ship building, automobile and airplane industries.
>>
They had some good designs like aircraft MC 202 and MC 205, small arms like Beretta M38, but they weren't able to produce anything in great numbers because their economy was simply not ready for war, as stated by Mussolini himself. Italy needed at least two more years of preparations but Benny got greedy after German easy victory over France.

/his/, what kind of events are there that have the possibility of changing society's opinion/direction in an instant?

For example, nature disasters. Terrorist attack. Murder of Franz Ferdinand. Russian annexation of Crimea. Etc.
What sort of unexpected, random things have the power to this?

Precisely the sort of things I mean, you're right about that. That must be the biggest one in the st century, surely?
>>
Generally events do not change society.
Ferdinand is a good example, because The Euro nations has sorta been wanting a super Euro War for at the least 30 years by 1915.
Its just at the point where enough things had stacked up, for it to finally happen.
