Why did the Polish
charge German Armor with Calvary?

Were the polish just dumb?
21 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
isnt this story apocryphal?
>>
>>2416872
Friendly reminder that the charges were actually succesful
>>
>>2416877
The polish were known to use Calvary against Motorized divisions,
it's very possible that they would've also charged Mechanized ones too.

How can a civilization both discriminate against women and elect a woman as their leader?
21 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>2416839
People would rather have a woman as a leader than have someone from outside the royal family be leader.
>>
How can a civilization both kill men and elect a man as their leader?

really steams my noodle.
>>
They didn't discriminate against women.

Women may be of equal intelligence but they are physically weaker, burdened by childbirth and have less interest in "nerdy" work or "macho" things like warfare. If you had limited resources and were going to invest in someone's education you'd invest it in a boy, unless of course you were very rich.

Archive them as best as possible, then let them die.

This. It's valuable to document as much as you can. Frankly however, the less living languages there are, the better.

First you would have to answer why they should invade a desert with a few cities and hostile tribes
>>
>>2416446
Well they were influencing tribes like Yemen and today-Oman, so they could just continue to expand their influence.
It looked like it was their goal before the crumble of the empire.

More like 10 centuries
>>
>>2416277
France definitly dominated Europe militarily for the 2nd half of the 17th century and between 1792 and 1815
Now for the cultural aspect, you can say they dominated from the middle of the 17th century to the middle of the 20th century (so three centuries indeed)

Can someone unironically explain why this board has such a hard-on for the Byzantine Empire?

I fell for the meme and read a few books and from what I've read it seems just endless civil war followed by much wailing and gnashing of teeth and blaming Latins whenever its enemies took advantage of that perpetual internal strife

is it just typical 4chan contrarianism?

I don't know what hard-on you're speaking of?

There's the general argument over whether it should be considered as the continuation of the Roman Empire, and the consensus on that is yes.

Other than that, it didn't do a whole lot other than decline.
>>
>>2415896
People absolutely fucking hate Byzantium here. I love it, because it's a wonderfully tragic narrative, with every attempt at recovery met only by destruction by fate or complacency.

Genesis is a historical book, so it's meant to be read in a literal narrative sense.

There are poetic, prophetic and apocalyptic books in the Bible - and Genesis is not one of them.

Recent movies like Silence want to depict shogun-era Japan (and also imperial era) as a despotic culture where the individual had to bow to the empereor/shogun and only adore him, so Christianism was bad because it made him less faithful in the government and it had to be persecuted.

There is a side note that is not really well discussed: when the portuguese started trading with Japan, they eventually came to pacts with Christian daymios in order to trade japanese slaves in their commerces (they brought them to the East Indies and to Portugal and gave them the most horrible treatments, they also were sold as slaves to black masters, who are often regarded as the only ones who ever experienced slavery, or as slaves to other slaves).

Imperial regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi was disgusted by this treatment reserved to his people and after ordering the Portuguese to return japanese slaves to Japan he banned Christian proselytizing. Heck, a religion about making all men equal used as a tool to get more slaves? They righteously called BS on it.

That is to show how in history it's unlikely to have "evil ones", and with Japan in the specific, which is a culture we study only superficially, the quantity of unproven stereotypes about them doing meaningless evil actions in history are a lot, and at the source of them all is the lack of information on what were the actual causes of their actions.

I'm not saying that they were right to persecute Christians, I only say that the portuguese actually provoked them to do it.

Hope you liked my post and I'm sorry if I made some grammar mistake since English is not my main language. /his/ is my favorite board and the discussions are often interesting, so I thought I could contribute with a subject I've been studying about lately.

Don't you sometimes wish Moors were allowed to retain certain parts of its culture after reconquista, simillar to how Rum nations were more-less left alone in Ottoman Empire?

Tbh we could have ended up with the most civillized version of Islam and even more interesting culture in Iberia.

I do not claim otherwise, but I think that their culture is overlooked due to LE DEUS VULT XDD and LE EPIC RECONQUISTA memers. Crossroads of cultures are always more interesting than your average homogenic society (take Britain for example).

Ethiopia had contact to Islam even while the prophet lived. Muslim refugees were sheltered in Ethiopia so Mohammed declared Ethiopia to be exempt from the Jyhad as the only non-muslims
