Is there a good book or volume of books on American history that covers everything from the Revolution to more modern times? Looking for something without a modern liberal "evil white colonialism" bent, if possible

why aren't there many comprehensive books about art history?

in comparison, philosophy has lots of different series about various fields and individual philosophers

you can find dozens of academic books about say, Kant or Aristotle or phenomenology but very little about Rembrandt or Poussin or impressionism

for art, there are a few textbooks for art history as a whole, but that's about as much depth as you can get

and for example there are more books about one philosopher in the same timeframe than there are books about an entire period of art history
>>

what are you smoking OP? maybe you can't access free books on art history, but there is still tons of scholarship on all those things you mention. that said, I think a part of the problem is that a lot of these works are also in french, italian and german, making a lot of scholarship inaccessible to us anglophone normies.

Why aren't Barbary Corsairs romanticized the same way Vikings are?

Vikings colonized places, discovered America, became elite bodyguards for the Roman emperors...

You should be asking why the Barbary pirates aren't romanticized like the new world pirates are
>>
>>2582575
Corsairs were the elite navy of the Ottoman empire. They had the original bearded captain, barbarossa.
>>
>>2582568
Pirates didn't literally tear a captured woman limb from limb during a crazed breeding frenzy

Why it is okay to deny most Gods but deny just one more and you suddenly edgy atheist? The real Faith was always about keeping your heart to be open to all divine beings. Modern atheism is the most direct logical conclusion of the most faithless crusade that is the monotheistic battle against human nature of polytheistic spirituality.

People just believe whatever religion they get handed when they are an impressionable kid.

Or maybe they go through a midlife crisis and are desperate enough to get converted to something else.

Of course they flatter themselves and think they believe in a good thing because of how smart or holy they are but that's just rationalization.

Does History treat Caesar too harshly, or too kindly?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2580670
definetely too kindly. he was just an ambitious guy with some (okay, more than just some) skills. but he was usually too agressive with his diplomatic-political actions which in the end killed him.
>>
>>2580670

Much too kindly. He ordered mass murder multiple times in Gaul. It was common in those times, but that's no excuse. And he brought about the end of the Republic.

Shit tier.

The 'prove me wrong' ethos of the internet engenders everything that is wrong with interpersonal discussion and debate. It can be said that those who evoke this line of argument are looking for truth in a way that is instantly gratifying, and is only a tool for disenfranchised morons to feel superior over the people who supposedly represent the kind of people who hold an opposing view, rather than actual engagement and logical contest with the views (and their arguments taken to exhaustive conclusions).

Prove me wrong.

4chan was never the place for in depth and thoughtful discussion. I'm not sure it even exists outside high society and academia.
And with all the religious/atheistic or catholic/protestant shitposting there isn't going to be good discussions about it. People are deathly afraid of being wrong, and will stick to their guns no matter what.

Prove me wrong
>>
Everything on 4chan evolves to garner a response, hence posts speciate into provocative and eye catching appeals that feature a prompt.

Alternatively they tap into a latent enthusiasm such as late night porn threads
>>
This board is essentially a comedy board for people with a genuine interest in history sling insults at each other and make shitposts that would only be funny to people who also enjoy history

if you think of it like that it's a pretty good board

if you want real discussion why are you here

What if Trotsky took over the Communist Party instead of Stalin? How would Russia have fared in WW2, how would the Soviet Union and Communism overall be seen today?
57 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
I am not a communist or even to the left of political spectrum but Stalin was a better choice than Trotsky.

Trotsky was a true ideologist who wanted eternal revolution to spread Marxism over the globe. He would most likely destroy Russian people with his actions. Stalin was far more pragmatical and after reading some of his letters, esseys, I am starting to doubt if he even believed in communism.
>>
>>2576655
Then true communism would have been tried
