Best books to read about the spanish civil war? I wanna read something somewhat impartial and not biased towards sucking republic dick.

I've read homage to catalonia and for whom the bell tolls, also bought the battle for spain but I haven't read it yet. Any other considerations?

no problem look in here too. its about spanish military history but there's are books on the civil war here that aren't mentioned in the other bibliography. They looked like they were published more recently so they would take into account some new scholarship. The section before that also has books on the 1920s dictatorship of primo de rivera (father of the main spanish fascist) and his wwars in morocco.

why is it that whoever is described as a "handsome" man in history books always turns out to be some rapist looking fuck when i look them up

I've been struggling with this question for a couple of days now... what function should a society serve?

Preservation of the species? Maximizing happiness of citizens? Gaining as much sociopolitical complexity as possible? Worship of the divine?

Tell me your thoughts, and then tell me about your ideology.

There is none, but people arbitrarily assign a goal to either their or all societies for ideological purposes.

What's the deal with Russia not producing any noteworthy music until XIXth century and then suddenly producing so many great composers of classical music? Why did it happen?
>Tchaikovsky
>Prokofiev
>Rachmaninoff
>Stravinsky
>Rimsky-Korsakov
>Musorgsky
>Glinka
>Shostakovich
>Borodin
How did they catch up without a classical tradition?

is it accurate to qualify USSR's foreign policy as "Soviet Imperialism" ? Was the Winter War an attempt to reconquer a former vassal state ? Or was it only about establishing a safety zone around Leningrad ?

Considering the fact that they had attempted invading Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and the Ukraine I'd say yeah. Soviet foreign policy was always imperialistic.

Yes. Anyone denying it is a brainwashed tankie.

To give a comparison: Back in the 70's or 80's, when the Ethiopian hunger was at it's peak, Yugoslavia - the de-facto leader of NAM and supposedly the only "powerful" country fighting against both Soviet and US imperialism, sent to Ethiopia some military ships, instead of food supplies, or other type of humanitarian aid. This blew up into a huge deal here, especially among the socialist youth, who was criticising the "doublethink" of the party leaders who claimed to fight imperialism, but were doing all the shit that other imperialist countries were doing. And that was one case, SU did this pretty much to every country they got their hands on.

Listen. I get it alright. I'm a Spainard who gets hard thinking about Rome's crimson legions exterminating some revolting barbarians. I'm a massive Romaboo who subscribed to the "Byzantines aren't real Romans" meme back when I was like 14. But come on. Being Roman ceased being an ethnic identity long before the Western Empire fell, and the actual city of Rome ceased being the capital or even the cultural center of the empire even longer before that. The most wealthy provinces of the empire were in the east, and Greek was already spoken alongside Latin in most parts of the Empire. The truth is that the Byzantines saw themselves as being the successors of the Romans culturally. They centered themselves in Constantinople and still upheld a hellinistic culture. Who disputes this.

of course they're roman, just not by themselves. it takes both.

Wait, PJW is deaf?

I am here to profess my love and unceasing devotion to our Blessed Mother, the Mother of all Christians, Mary

I love Our Lady more than words can express and will resolve from this day forth to always serve her. My own wants, vanities, and delusions mean NOTHING and I pray that Mary my mother may occupy every inch of my soul and edge out these foul human vices and fill that space with her own holiness, her own perfect humility, her own serene peace, her own perfect union with her Son our Blessed Lord, of whom every blade of grass, every grain of sand and every wisp of breath in the cold air proclaims the presence and the glory.

Accept the goodness of Our Lady into your heart, take her as your personal confidant, express your love for Christ through her and keep a sense of her presence and blessing with you all day, every day during our sojourn on this earth and you shall never, ever fail or stumble.

Know Mary, know peace.

No Mary, no peace.

Make the right choice, my brothers and sisters, whatever your denomination may be. Our Lady is waiting for you. She has always been waiting for you.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Pray for us, oh Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Why did they invade Poland? I can't find an actual answer anywhere.

What were the Nazi government's OFFICIAL reasons for declaring war? Surely we still know what the declaration of war against Poland says.

My autism must know.

Because they knew with Soviet help it'd be easy.

Also, they didn't expect the West to do shit, which kind of happened. See "phoney war" and "Sitzkrieg".
>>
>>2593204
the first regular act of war took place on 1 September 1939, at 04:40, when the Luftwaffe attacked the Polish town of Wieluń, destroying 75% of the city and killing close to 1,200 people, most of them civilians. Five minutes later, the old German pre-dreadnought battleship Schleswig-Holstein opened fire on the Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte in the Free City of Danzig on the Baltic Sea. At 08:00, German troops—still without a formal declaration of war issued—attacked near the Polish village of Mokra.

according to Serge Moscovici, the characteristics needed in the real world for a minority to influence the behavior and/or ideas of the majority are for the minority to be coherent, show/say something that put a social norm in crisis or discredit it, attract attention, show security and complete trust in their points of view, and not go away until their point of view is accepted and eventually changes the status quo.
How come tho these things often don't apply in the real world?
see pic related for an example, one of the students involved in the tien an men square protests in 1989

It all depends on the cirstances and relative power. I would say the strategy is not bad, but it is by no means guaranteed to work.
Ghandi couldn't beat Stallin.
Or n for example if a governemnt is willing to use long term displacement to remove you then you are royally fucked liked the tibetans.

>How come tho these things often don't apply in the real world?
because in the end, they're still a minority

that being said, a vocal minority is still heard

and that theory can apply to the contemporary US
>>
>>2594286
>a minority has to [...], why doesn't this work?
>because they're a minority
I must be messing the point somewhere here
if Moscovici was right then these minorities should have succeeded in changing the status quo
were their ideas too extreme?

Even the very first paragraph of Cuckipedia acknowledges what /his/ is seemingly incapable of accepting.

>Both "Western Roman Empire" and "Eastern Roman Empire" (or "Byzantine Empire") are modern terms describing de facto independent entities; however, at no point did the Romans consider the Empire split into two, but rather considered it a single state governed by two separate Imperial courts out of administrative expediency.

Yes, from the Carta Magna, the protestant reformation, John Locke, Bartolome De Las Casas, french and american revolutions, abolition of slavery, etc.
It basically sprung from european civilization.
