Why didn't Jefferson Davis just appoint Bragg as a military advisor from the start? It was obvious that Bragg wasn't fit to lead men into battle, but he was good at planning and organizing an army. It probably would have been better to leave Beauregard in command of the Army of Tennessee after Albert S. Johnston fell at Shiloh. Also, can we try and keep this thread strictly about the military aspect of the war and leave the who was right and who was wrong out of it?

I have some sympathy for the Shia point of view.
The Umayyads stood for the traditional method of Arab succession even though Muhammad had arguably come to proclaim a new social order. In that way Ali as Caliph could be seen as the choice more in line with Muhammad's teachings. Going with the Umayyads meant going back to "the way we did things before that weirdo came around" and also the Umayyads were late converts whereas Ali was a Muslim of the first hour.

Honeslty, crushing the Warlordism was more of an issue of administration than it was of generalship. Chiang smashed his share of warlords, the problem was that they kept springing back up whenever his army left the area. The KMT in general didn't seem to have the administrative capacity to run all of China, so something is going to fill that vacuum. They needed a Numa, not necessarily a Napoleon.
