How linux thing works? Are this ubuntu, debian etc. different linuxes with different development. Is there some head linux which these all base from? Like is Linus doing this major linux and all these lesser linuxes make their own versions out of it?

Linus and others are doing work to improve the kernel and its compatibility with hardware, as well as security updates.
"Linux operating systems" are just operating systems that use the Linux kernel. They are referred to as Linux distributions.
For the most part, each Linux distribution is developed and maintained by separate organizations. However, in some cases, Linux distributions are built on top of other Linux distributions. For example, Linux Mint is built on top of Ubuntu, and Ubuntu in turn is built on top of Debian. Debian being the "base Linux" (if we use your terminology) in this case.

I'm a new Android user, coming from iPhones for the past 4 years, and I want to know what /g/ uses to back up and restore their phones.
iPhones were easy because you can do it all through iTunes with one click.
I'm curious does Android have anything like that? What are the best ways to get a full phone back up saved?

Just like air coolers, there are good and bad AIO water coolers.

Can you imagine the filesize of a movie intended for VR? Two video streams at 4K at 90Hz, no matter how efficient the codec is, that's an enormous file.

So I found a computer.
No really.
It is a compaq presario 2200. Found it with lubuntu installed and a disc of it in the drive of lubuntu 12.04 LTS. My elderly neighbor wants it. (He is 75)
It has:
Intel Celeron M Processor at a whopping 1400mb
474MB of memory!
What should I do with it? I was thinking installing mint (which it does not meet the minimum specs) or something

Leben has something like that minus the DAC part. It's generally not a good idea to shove one in the same circuit with tube anyhow.
