What are the benefits to using Nouveau over proprietary video card drivers on Linux?

I use NoVideo's GTX 750ti, in case anyone wants to determine the answer.

>>
There are no benefits to video or wifi drivers on linux. Get one that works and hope it keeps working.
>>
>>56161281
Nouveau won't work for gaming because they are shit because Nvidia.
>>
>>56161318
I wouldn't use the drivers for gayming.

They would definitely benefit when using Blender, or watching Chinese cartoons because they HVEC encoders that won't tax my poor old CPU. Using the proprietary drivers would also get rid of a lot of screen tearing too.

I'm just wondering if Nvidia's official drivers have any spyware or malware in them. Wondering their drivers can take screenshots of your current session and then send them back to Novideo for analysis.

>there are people on this board right now that call themselves programmers but are too stupid to use Linux

configuring Linux is so simple for actual programmers that there is no excuse not to be using it. people who come on this board and call themselves programmers but don't use Linux are just script kiddies who don't actually make money. Windows is for office work. using spread sheets isn't programming, but I'm sure it's fun to pretend. no actual paid programmers use Windows.

Try saying this autism speech to someone who uses visual studio, i dare you.
>>
>>56160773
Even the developers of vs and windows it's self use Linux to program. Windows is made for consumers, not developers, that's why even MS devs themselves dont use it.

Visual studio is coded in vim on Linux.

Anyone else learning Angular 2?

I love the new design philosophy (everything is a component, bscly), but for the life of me I want to blow my brains out because they've been changing fundamental fucking modules every couple weeks here. It's on release candidate 5 now, and they claim RC6 will be the last before 2.0.0.

They separated the Router module off to its own thing now with its own versioning. They've made major updates that break features or fundamentally change how some modules work. I'm fucking sick of it already.

I stopped working on a startup for many months now because I'm stupid and thought Google might have had their heads outta their asses by the last stages of beta development. NOPE. I'm an idiot. It's been dragging on for months now. I just want to get an MVP out the door so me and my business partner can fucking make tons of money and buy fancy cars already. :[

I probably should have just fucking stayed with Angular 1 -.-

I have been meaning to learn it but I'm a lazy asshole so I only know the basic shit.
I bought a copy of ngbook2 and they are updating it nonstop and include a small changelog when A2 changes shit around again. There's a whole chapter (50+ pages) on routing, I suggest you check it out (costs $39).
>>
>>56157188
Nah, after Angular 1 turned out to be a bloated, slow piece of shit by default and Google took years to even design 2 I lost muh will to invest into it.

Same might apply to bootstrap 4 btw.
Seems like Jon Blow was right in his random rant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k56wra39lwA since 300 for this shit actually IS COMPLETELY BANANAS.

My company is using Angular 2 as an excuse to finally pay the development cost of transitioning away from it to React. Started out okay like most trendy web tools, but we all came dislike it over time. However, we all also had already put in the hard work to learn angular, so we kept using it and building things with it until we really took a close look at Angular 2.

Basically everything that we like about Angular 2 is already present in React, and on the flip side, React has none of the things we DON'T want from Angular 2. Using either will require a decent amount of work to transition, and so we might as transition to the tool we want instead of Version 2 of a tool we have come to despise.

I have recently spent a lot of time with programming, I would consider myself a beginner. Specifically I am working on a few projects which include Ruby on Rails (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Ruby) as well as some Python. I don't plan on getting a degree in computer science but I want to know how "difficult" it would be for me to find a job later down the road? Are programming jobs easy to find, given you have the knowledge to fulfill your tasks?

You can have all the knowledge you want but without a fancy degree you'll get nowhere.

I don't think that's true. Every programming interview I know of includes practical part where you solve problems or discuss problems and every single one of them cares about what projects you did in the past more than they might care for, idk, Harvard degree .

On the other hand certificates are actually important and you might need those to even get to interview.

It's made by a few college retards who learned Java, looked at the current state of programming and thought "we can fix this!", only to "fix" it by lumping all features from all languages ever together.

It's shit.

hey /g/,

I need a junk mailing list to sign my dad's email address for.

ideally:

-it should send emails with fair consistency

-but not render the inbox unusable

-it should be hilarious

-it should get past gmail's spam filter

any suggestioms?

Try the WHO or CDC newsletter sign up. you can rack up 300+ emails a week from one page.

Just post it in plaintext on a well-indexed page, spambots will do the rest.

So you want to learn programming?

Pick a starting language. For beginners, there are generally two recommended "programming families" that you can choose to start learning:
-Dynamically typed/interpreted programming languages, such as: Python, Perl, Ruby
-Statically typed/compiled programming languages, such as: C, C++, C#

These are amongst the most popular languages in use worldwide, including 4 from the top 5. Both approaches are perfectly fine, and well-documented.
-Dynamically typed programming may be a bit more flexible, convenient, and forgiving. It is more popular in academia.
-Statically typed programming is a bit more suited for making general applications. It is more popular in industries.

Cannot decide? Flip a coin.

If you choose statically typed/compiled programming, you may want to start with C, then pick up C++. C is very well documented, and teaches many universal programming concepts. C++ is based on C, and adds new concepts. Sources:
For C:

If you choose dynamically typed/interpreted programming, you may want to start with Python. It is very easy to pick up. Here are some good sources:

>BUT I WANT MORE SOURCES!
Read: https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Programming_resources

>BUT I WANNA START WITH [language x] INSTEAD!
Sure, if you like. But the languages above are considered good for beginners.

>BUT I WANNA MAKE A COOL WEBSITE!
Learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

>BUT I WANNA MAKE iPHONE GAMES!
Learn Objective C and/or Swift.

>BUT I WANNA MAKE ANDROID GAMES!
Learn Java.

>BUT I WANNA MAKE PC GAMES!
Learn patience.

What sort of connection problems would make it such so that I only see bots online when I attempt to play Netrek? My apologies for bringing up games.
I've confirmed that my router isn't blocking any ports to my computer.

When connecting to a server, you get all the server info. Seeing the NPCs, but not the players smells like game client issues, not an internet connection issue.
>>
>>56154537

Or server side issues. Get a friend to connect to the same server, see how it goes.

I think it's just that no one plays anymore.

The i7 3770K has the Intel HD 4000 iGPU.
This iGPU is currently disabled in the UEFI.
I'm currently using a GTX 780.

Is there any point in enabling the iGPU?
What uses would I get out of it?
Thanks.

My dad is an applications developer, his contract with his current company ends in 2 months, and he wants to enter a different field.

He tells me he wants to work for google in NYC (for the salary)

I'm not a computer person, what jobs here are closet to applications development?
