>>56485794

totally worth spending $200 for 120GB
>>56485854
it's a $70, 275gb Crucial MX300 partitioned for multiple OSes and storage
PCIe SSDs are meme tier for a consumer.
To those who've created their own linux distro:
How long did it take?
How many hours per-day did you spend on it?
Are you continuing to update/manage it?
>>56485779
I wish to know these things as well...
>how long did it take
A few days to get a usable desktop
>how many hours per day
a few, its less doing complex things and more waiting for shit to compile.
>Still managing it
Nope, I would rather just use any other distro.
>>56486208
So you made a pos and decided to give up on it?
>windows on my decently built desktop
>linux on my notebook
>when home i use my desktop and SSH to my notebook
>use both computers seamlessly like this
>it's the best of both worlds
i have achieved ... true patriciandom.
>>56485775
I did the same after I got tired of using cygwin for all my bash scripts.
Don't know why you made a thread about it, though. There's not anything to discuss.
>>56485853
/g/ is such a shitfest tonight i thought i might as well join in for a day.
This is the only thread not infected with tonight's brand of cancer
I too have Linux / windows but its a windows laptop a Linux desktop machines
Windows 10 is spying on me. Windows 7 doesn't spy, right?
>>56485649
>Windows 7 doesn't spy, right?
Keep telling yourself that.
Linux Mint then. It doesn't spy.
>>56485649
They're already backporting all of 10's spyware features to 7 and 8.1. Resistance is futile. I for one welcome our new botnet overlords.
Macfags will defend this.
INNOVATIVE
Can someone give me all the highlights of the keynote?
Imma go full shill up in here and argue that if you check user data, most people don't even use the headphone jack on their phone to listen to music
just off personal experience, most people who you see with a phone day to day, do not have headphones attached to them, this adapter is really only an inconvenience to a minority of users
Hey /g/ im wondering how i should start out with programming and all that stuff
>be me
>im ok with tech

What the fuck does Motorola's Device Help app need permissions to EVERYTHING on my phone for?
I can't trust my fucking phone. I am so fucking mad.
>>56485523
Switch to iPhone you don't need to give permission.

https://www.buzzfeed.com/johnpaczkowski/inside-iphone-7-why-apple-killed-the-headphone-jack
>“It was holding us back from a number of things we wanted to put into the iPhone,” Riccio says. “It was fighting for space with camera technologies and processors and battery life. And frankly, when there’s a better, modern solution available, it’s crazy to keep it around.”
>The 3.5-millimeter audio jack has been headed to its inevitable fate for some time now... In the end, it was simple math that did the audio jack in, a cost-benefit analysis that sorely disfavored a single-purpose Very Old Port against a wireless audio future, some slick new cameras, and the kind of water resistance that anyone who has ever dropped an iPhone in the toilet has long wished for.
>“The idea that there’s some ulterior motive behind this move, or that it will usher in some new form of content management, it simply isn’t true,” [Schiller] says. “We are removing the audio jack because we have developed a better way to deliver audio. It has nothing to do with content management or DRM — that’s pure, paranoid conspiracy theory.”
Mobile devices don't belong with wired accessories, and they're not meant for audiophiles. Take off your tinfoil hat and embrace the future, /g/.
What a hog.
By not giving users an analog output as an option and keeping the signal chain digital, you can start to enforce copy protection on audio like what is already done with HDMI (HDCP) and disallowing analog output on protected content unless it is degraded to a much lower but acceptable (to the content owner) quality.

The iTunes music catalog has been DRM-free for nearly a decade.
Is Bitcoin dying?
Is Ethereum the next shit?
What is the difference between the two?
What is the state of crypto-currencies in 2k16?
Sorry I missed the crypto-currency train, please teach me sempai.
bitcoin will never die because it's so crucial to the underground markets.
>>56486147
You mean crypto money? Because there are alternative to bitcoin.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I want to buy some touchpad stickers from aliexpress for my w520, but i only find t420 stickers, are they the same size as the w520?

How could any sane person think gnome 3 is better than gnome 2?

What even is that? RAM usage? What kind of shit PC do you have that you're running out of RAM, senpai?
>>56485226
Because if I want something I press window key and the first few letters than hit enter. Face it anon, most Linux people come from Windows where it's ideal to have everything in full screen. Don't pretend you're some 90's UNIX hacker.

Does Woz deserve any blame for Apple being where it is today?
>>56485222
Apple would be better off if it was ran by woz instead of this new jew
>>56485237
I'd be so conflicted if Woz somehow took control of present-day Apple. Don't make me hate you, Woz. You're so damn likeable. :(
>>56485222
Woz deserves no blame for their failures and no credit for their successes.
